# Sanity developers in Canada: senior builds and migrations from Toronto, billed only for the hours you use

## Short answer

Deploi, a Toronto-based web development agency, offers Sanity builds and migrations at $100 an hour in Canadian dollars, before applicable taxes ([Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing), October 2026). Each job's hours estimate, approved by you in writing, caps the hours billed unless a cause outside Deploi's control arises. Sanity bills in US dollars, so you're billed in two currencies ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing), October 2026).

- **Who bills what:** Deploi $100 CAD an hour; Sanity in US dollars. Deploi's rate is before applicable taxes and locked for 12 months from your first bank; Sanity's plans are charged in USD, as of October 2026 ([Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing); [Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing))
- **Bilingual site, 8 templates:** 621 hours, $62,100 CAD before sales tax. Deploi's estimate, 25 October 2026: 540 build hours plus about 15 percent for French; translation not included. Deploi arithmetic from the figures above
- **Quebec websites:** Available in French for businesses operating there. Québec's government lists websites among the Charter's obligations; the OQLF says another language needs French at least equivalent ([Gouvernement du Québec, Obligations des commerces et des entreprises en matière de langue française](https://www.quebec.ca/culture/langue-francaise/exercer-droits-langue-francaise/obligations); [Office québécois de la langue française, Votre aide-mémoire pour faire des affaires en français au Québec](https://www.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/francisation/entreprises/Aide_memoire_FaireDesAffaires.pdf))
- **Ontario websites:** WCAG 2.0 Level AA since 1 January 2021. For designated public sector organizations and businesses or non-profits with 50 or more employees in Ontario, other than criteria 1.2.4 and 1.2.5 ([Government of Ontario, How to make websites accessible](https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-make-websites-accessible); [Government of Ontario, O. Reg. 191/11: Integrated Accessibility Standards](https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/110191))

## Who builds Sanity websites in Canada?

Deploi offers Sanity builds, migrations and fixes from Canada, billed in Canadian dollars at a published $100 an hour ([Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing), October 2026). It is one option among several. Sanity's agency partner directory is another place to look ([Sanity, Find an Agency Partner](https://www.sanity.io/agency-partners), October 2026), but its region filter lists North America and has no Canada option.

So shortlist by hand, and ask each agency three questions:

- Where does its team work?
- Which currency does it bill in?
- Who writes the estimate?

Then use [the questions that expose real Sanity experience](https://deploi.ca/sanity/agency/how-to-choose) to vet any of them, Deploi included.

[What Deploi builds and fixes on Sanity](https://deploi.ca/sanity/agency) lists its services and the Sanity sections it runs on deploi.ca. [How Deploi published 701 decision pages](https://deploi.ca/sanity/builds/agent-scale-publishing) is public, and so is the FAQ Hub with AI Chatbot template, which Martin Dejnicki published on Sanity Exchange.

## How much does Sanity development cost in Canada?

Deploi charges $100 an hour in Canadian dollars for Sanity development, before applicable taxes, because it bills every service at one rate ([Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing), October 2026). The rate is locked for 12 months from your first bank of hours, the prepaid block you buy upfront.

Deploi's estimate tables by project size are on [what a Sanity site costs to build](https://deploi.ca/sanity/cost). These are Deploi's estimates as of 25 October 2026: the hours each part of the work takes (the content model, templates and components, integrations, content migration, testing and launch), priced at the published $100 CAD rate. Your project gets its own written estimate, and you agree the total before work begins; it changes only if the scope changes or a cause outside Deploi's control arises.

Deploi's terms, as of September 2026:

- Only logged hours count, never more than each job's approved estimate.
- A job that runs over its estimate is finished without extra hours, unless a cause outside Deploi's control changes it.
- Project management and strategic planning are built in and never drawn from your bank.
- No minimum purchase, no monthly minimum, no contract term and no automatic renewal.
- Hours never expire, and unused hours are refunded when you ask in writing.

## Does Sanity bill Canadian customers in Canadian dollars?

No. Sanity bills its plans in US dollars, and Deploi bills its hours in Canadian dollars, so if Deploi builds your Sanity site, two suppliers bill you in two currencies. Sanity's pricing FAQ says you can pay in any currency as long as your credit card provider allows charging in USD after conversion ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing), October 2026).

Who bills what:

- **Deploi:** hours of work at $100 an hour, in Canadian dollars before applicable taxes.
- **Sanity:** its plan, in US dollars; the Growth plan costs $15 per seat a month as of October 2026 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)).
- **Your frontend host:** hosting, on the host's own bill.

Sanity's spending alerts for overage are set in whole US dollars too ([Sanity Docs, Spending alerts](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/spending-alerts), October 2026), and [Sanity's Free plan](https://deploi.ca/sanity/faq/is-sanity-free) costs $0. Deploi converts nothing between the currencies, so each figure stays in the currency its supplier bills.

## Which sales tax applies to Sanity development in Canada?

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) says the rate of goods and services tax (GST) or harmonized sales tax (HST) to charge depends on the place of supply ([CRA, Charge and collect the GST/HST](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/charge-collect-which-rate.html), October 2026), so the rate varies by province and territory. Deploi's prices for Sanity development are in Canadian dollars before applicable taxes ([Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing), October 2026).

For a service, CRA says one of three general rules usually determines the place of supply ([CRA, Place-of-supply rules](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/charge-collect-place-supply.html), October 2026). CRA's rates table gives the GST/HST rate for each province and territory, and adds a provincial sales tax (PST) column for provinces outside the HST ([CRA, GST/HST calculator and rates](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/charge-collect-which-rate/calculator.html), October 2026):

**CRA's GST/HST rates by province and territory, as of October 2026**

| Province or territory | GST or HST rate | PST column in CRA's table |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Ontario | 13% HST | Not applicable |
| Nova Scotia | 14% HST since 1 April 2025 | Not applicable |
| New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island | 15% HST | Not applicable |
| Quebec | 5% GST | 9.975% |
| British Columbia, Manitoba | 5% GST | 7% |
| Saskatchewan | 5% GST | 6% |
| Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon | 5% GST | 0% |

CRA's table sends readers to each province's own website for the provincial sales tax. ## Does a Sanity site for Quebec customers need to be in French?

A business operating in Quebec must make its website available in French. Québec's government says the Charter of the French language applies to every business that operates in Quebec, and it lists making catalogs, advertising and websites available in French among their obligations (in French, [Québec.ca](https://www.quebec.ca/culture/langue-francaise/exercer-droits-langue-francaise/obligations), October 2026). If Deploi builds the Sanity site, the French-language duty still stays with the business.

The Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF) says three things in its business guide (in French, [OQLF business guide](https://www.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/francisation/entreprises/Aide_memoire_FaireDesAffaires.pdf), May 2025):

- Commercial documentation must be written at least in French on any medium, which includes websites and social media.
- You can also use another language, but only if French appears at least equivalently and the French version is accessible on conditions at least as favorable.
- The responsibility to publish content in French belongs to whoever makes the information public, even when a third party produced it.

The OQLF's consumer-rights page lists websites among what a customer's right to be informed in French covers ([OQLF, consumer rights](https://www.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/francisation/droits_linguistiques/droits/produits-information-services-en-francais.html), October 2026). Deploi takes no view on whether a business based outside Quebec that sells online counts as operating there, so ask the OQLF or a lawyer before you scope the French site.

## How much does a bilingual English and French Sanity site cost?

Deploi estimates a bilingual English and French marketing site on Sanity with 8 templates at 621 hours, or $62,100 CAD before sales tax, about 11 to 14 weeks from kickoff to launch. A second language adds about 10 to 20 percent to Deploi's estimate, because it changes the content model, routing and testing; this example uses 15 percent, and translation isn't included.

**Deploi's estimates, 25 October 2026: bilingual site, 8 templates**

| Line | Hours | CAD at $100 an hour |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Content model and schema design | 45 | $4,500 |
| 8 templates at about 45 hours | 360 | $36,000 |
| Environments, deployment, analytics and search engine optimization setup | 20 | $2,000 |
| Importing about 400 entries | 50 | $5,000 |
| Testing, accessibility checks and launch | 40 | $4,000 |
| Training and post-launch support | 25 | $2,500 |
| French as a second language, about 15 percent of 540 hours | 81 | $8,100 |
| Total | 621 | $62,100 |

Deploi arithmetic: 540 build hours plus about 15 percent for French (81 hours) is 621 hours, or $62,100 CAD at $100. As of 25 October 2026.

The 540 build hours sit within Deploi's marketing-site estimate of 350 to 600 hours; the 81 French hours come on top. Sanity says field-level localization publishes all languages together and document-level each independently ([Sanity Docs, Localization](https://www.sanity.io/docs/studio/localization), October 2026); [Deploi's localization review](https://deploi.ca/sanity/review/localization) weighs both.

## Do Ontario's accessibility rules apply to a Sanity website?

Yes, for covered organizations. Ontario says the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) has required two kinds of organization to make public websites accessible since 1 January 2021: designated public sector organizations, and businesses or non-profits with 50 or more employees in Ontario ([ontario.ca](https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-make-websites-accessible), October 2026; [O. Reg. 191/11, s. 2](https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/110191)). Deploi's Sanity site estimates include accessibility checks, but the duty stays with the organization that controls the site.

The standard ([O. Reg. 191/11, s. 14](https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/110191), October 2026):

- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at Level AA (the middle of three levels).
- Two success criteria left out: 1.2.4 Captions (Live) and 1.2.5 Audio Descriptions (Pre-recorded).
- It applies to web content published after 1 January 2012, except where meeting the requirement is not practicable.

Ontario says the organization that controls the website, directly or through a contractual relationship, must meet the requirements ([ontario.ca](https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-make-websites-accessible)). Deploi's site estimates include accessibility to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) says content that conforms to WCAG 2.1 also conforms to WCAG 2.0 ([W3C, WCAG 2.1](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/), October 2026).

> **What Deploi's estimate is not**
>
> Deploi's site estimates carry a line for testing, accessibility checks and launch. That line isn't an accessibility audit, a compliance certificate or a guarantee, because content your editors publish after launch has to meet the standard too.

## Where does Sanity store your content?

Sanity's security page says its backend runs across three data centers in one European Union (EU) region, Belgium ([Sanity, Security](https://www.sanity.io/security), October 2026). It says uploaded content is stored in the EU or the European Economic Area (EEA), the US, or regions where Sanity has an operational footprint, specific by customer. Deploi draws no legal conclusion from what Sanity's pages say.

For serving, the security page says data may be cached in any country where Google Cloud or its agents maintain facilities. Sanity's subprocessor list says Google Cloud Platform hosts the Sanity Platform and all related data, with Belgium as the primary location of processing and the United States as the other ([Sanity, Third-party Subprocessors](https://www.sanity.io/legal/third-party-sub-processors), October 2026).

Neither page names Canada, so check Sanity's own documents on where Sanity stores content before you sign.

## Questions buyers ask

### Do Deploi's prices include GST or HST?

No. Deploi's prices are in Canadian dollars before applicable taxes, so any goods and services tax (GST) or harmonized sales tax (HST) that applies is not in the price ([Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing), October 2026). The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) says the rate depends on the place of supply; Ontario's HST, for example, is 13% ([CRA, Place-of-supply rules](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/charge-collect-place-supply.html), October 2026).

### Do Quebec's French-language rules apply to a site Deploi builds?

Quebec's French-language rules apply to the business running the site Deploi builds if it operates in Quebec, because Québec's government says the Charter of the French language covers every business operating there ([Québec.ca](https://www.quebec.ca/culture/langue-francaise/exercer-droits-langue-francaise/obligations), October 2026). The Office québécois de la langue française says the duty belongs to the publisher, even when a third party produced the content ([guide](https://www.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/francisation/entreprises/Aide_memoire_FaireDesAffaires.pdf), May 2025).

### Is translation included in a bilingual estimate?

No. Translation isn't in Deploi's bilingual estimate, so you budget for it separately: a second language adds about 10 to 20 percent to the project estimate for the build work alone, as of 25 October 2026. In Deploi's bilingual example, French adds 81 hours, 15 percent of 540, for a 621-hour estimate of $62,100 CAD before sales tax.

### Can Sanity Studio's interface be in French?

Yes. Sanity says you can change the language of the Sanity Studio interface by installing a language plugin ([Sanity Docs](https://www.sanity.io/docs/studio/localizing-studio-ui), October 2026), so editors can work in French with @sanity/locale-fr-fr ([npm](https://registry.npmjs.org/@sanity%2flocale-fr-fr/latest), October 2026). Sanity calls its locale repository community-supported and says Studio's primary official language remains American English.

### Does Ontario's website accessibility rule cover an intranet?

No. Ontario says you do not have to make an internal website, an intranet or extranet, meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 levels A and AA ([ontario.ca](https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-make-websites-accessible), October 2026), so the rule covers public sites. The Government of Ontario and the Legislative Assembly of Ontario are the exception: their internal websites must meet WCAG 2.0 level AA.

### Does Sanity name Canada as a place it stores content?

No. Neither Sanity's security page nor its subprocessor list names Canada ([Sanity, Third-party Subprocessors](https://www.sanity.io/legal/third-party-sub-processors), October 2026). The security page says uploaded content is stored in the EU or the European Economic Area, the US, or regions where Sanity has an operational footprint, specific by customer ([Sanity, Security](https://www.sanity.io/security), October 2026), so ask Sanity where yours sits before you sign.

## Deploi's point of view

**Our take.** Buy Sanity work in Canada the way you'd buy any agency work: a written hours estimate in Canadian dollars, billed hours capped at that estimate, and Sanity's plan paid separately in US dollars. Settle the two provincial questions before design starts, because French for Quebec customers and WCAG 2.0 Level AA in Ontario change the scope, and the scope is what the estimate prices.

**Where we disagree.** A website build can't carry an "AODA compliant" promise, because Ontario puts the duty on the organization that controls the site, and content editors publish after launch has to meet the standard too. The same goes for bilingual sites priced as a translation line: the second language changes the content model, routing and testing, so Deploi prices it as a share of the build and keeps translation out of the estimate.

**What we've seen.** deploi.ca's Build vs. Buy hub (701 decision pages), Shopify FAQ Hub (256 answers) and Shopify Builds library are edited in one Sanity Studio with three workspaces, and the project's two datasets held 4,642 documents across those sections and the Shopify data section, counted 24 October 2026 (the count includes image asset documents). One Studio and one project keep three content hubs simple to run.

**What we'd tell you to do first.** Decide how the French version of each page is produced and who signs it off before kickoff, because the Office québécois de la langue française says another language may sit beside French only if French appears at least equivalently. That decision sets the content model, and changing the model after templates are built costs more hours than settling it first.
