# Storyblok or Sanity: which suits a marketing team that wants to edit visually?

Reviewed by Martin Dejnicki · facts verified 25 October 2026 · canonical: https://deploi.ca/sanity/compare/sanity-vs-storyblok

## Short answer

Storyblok, a headless content management system (CMS), suits marketers building pages from blocks, because its Visual Editor is "the interface for your content" ([Storyblok Docs](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/manuals/visual-editor), October 2026). Sanity, another headless CMS, suits content reused beyond the website. Billed monthly, Storyblok Growth is $99 a month for 5 seats and Sanity Growth $15 per seat a month ([Storyblok](https://www.storyblok.com/pricing), [Sanity](https://www.sanity.io/pricing), October 2026).

- **Storyblok Growth price:** $99 a month with 5 seats. Billed monthly; $90.75 a month billed annually. Extra seats are $15 a month each up to 10; Growth Plus is $349 a month billed monthly, $319.91 billed annually, with 15 seats ([Storyblok, Pricing](https://www.storyblok.com/pricing); [Storyblok, Storyblok Fact Sheet](https://a.storyblok.com/f/88751/x/010505f975/storyblok-pricing-plan-factsheet.pdf))
- **Sanity Growth price:** $15 per seat a month. Up to 50 seats, billed monthly only; users with the Viewer role take no seat, and the Free plan includes 20 seats ([Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing); [Sanity, Sanity for Startups](https://www.sanity.io/startups))
- **Main editing screen:** Storyblok: Visual Editor; Sanity: Studio forms. Storyblok lists its Visual Editor on every plan; new Sanity Studio projects come with the Structure tool's forms, and Visual Editing runs in the Presentation tool on every plan ([Storyblok, Pricing](https://www.storyblok.com/pricing); [Storyblok Docs, Visual Editor](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/manuals/visual-editor); [Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing); [Sanity Docs, Structure tool and Structure builder](https://www.sanity.io/docs/studio/structure-introduction))
- **Two editors on one page:** Sanity co-edits live; Storyblok warns. Sanity lists real-time editing on every plan; Storyblok's manual documents a conflict warning and a locking app, while its Visual Editor page claims real-time collaboration ([Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing); [Storyblok Docs, Content Authoring](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/manuals/content-authoring); [Storyblok, Visual Editor](https://www.storyblok.com/lp/visual-editor))

## Deploi's call

Pick on what your content feeds, not on whether visual editing exists, because both products give marketers click-to-edit once developers wire the preview. If the website is the only output and marketers build its pages from blocks every day, pick Storyblok. If the same content also feeds apps, other sites or AI answers, pick Sanity and add Visual Editing on top. At 5 to 15 editors Sanity Growth also costs less per month, billed monthly (Deploi arithmetic from both vendors' published prices, October 2026).

**SANITY: Choose Sanity over Storyblok when**

- Your content feeds apps, other sites or AI assistants as well as web pages, because Sanity Studio starts editors from each product, author or offer as a document, while Storyblok's Visual Editor starts them from the page.
- More than 15 people edit, because Storyblok's self-serve plans stop at 15 seats while Sanity Growth runs to 50 at $15 a seat a month, billed monthly, as of October 2026.
- Developers want GraphQL or GROQ (Graph-Relational Object Queries) on an entry paid plan, since Storyblok lists GraphQL only on Premium and Elite as of October 2026.
- Two editors often work in the same document at once, so live co-editing saves them from resolving save conflicts.

**OTHER: Choose Storyblok over Sanity when**

- Marketers assemble most pages from blocks, so they work in the Visual Editor, Storyblok's own interface for content, on every page.
- You want an uptime service-level agreement (SLA) without an enterprise contract, because Storyblok Growth lists 97% while Sanity offers an SLA only on Enterprise, as of October 2026.
- You'll buy Storyblok Premium anyway and want releases, custom roles, single sign-on (SSO) and native A/B testing in one contract, as of October 2026.
- Editors rarely touch the same page at once, so conflict warnings and locking won't slow them down.

## How do Storyblok and Sanity compare side by side?

Storyblok and Sanity are both headless content management systems (CMSs), so the split is where editors land. Storyblok calls its Visual Editor "the interface for your content" ([Storyblok Docs](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/manuals/visual-editor), October 2026). New Sanity Studio projects "come pre-configured with the Structure tool", the document list and form editor ([Sanity Docs](https://www.sanity.io/docs/studio/structure-introduction), October 2026).

**Storyblok leads on visual editing and an entry-plan uptime commitment; Sanity on seat count, documented co-editing and query languages**

| Dimension | Storyblok | Sanity |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Main editing screen | Visual Editor | Studio forms |
| Content model | Stories built from blocks | Documents built from objects |
| Same-page editing | Conflict warning, locking app | Real-time co-editing |
| Query APIs, entry plan | REST; GraphQL on Premium | GROQ and GraphQL |
| Seats, entry plan | 5, up to 10 | Up to 50 |
| Locales, entry plan | 2, extra at $20 a month each | No locale fee, within attribute limits |
| Scheduling, entry plan | Single stories | Scheduled drafts |
| Uptime SLA | 97% on Growth | Enterprise only |
| Entry price per month, billed monthly | $99 for 5 seats | $15 per seat |
| Verdict | Block-built marketing sites | Content reused beyond pages |

Entry plans: Storyblok Growth and Sanity Growth. API (application programming interface), REST (representational state transfer), GROQ (Graph-Relational Object Queries), SLA (service-level agreement). The verdict row is Deploi's judgment. ## Which one gets marketers editing visually with less developer work?

Neither product gets marketers editing visually without developer work; the difference is the screen editors land on afterward. Storyblok says marketers can create content "without dependency on the development team" ([Storyblok comparison page](https://www.storyblok.com/lp/storyblok-vs-sanity), October 2026). That holds once developers finish four steps from Storyblok's own guide ([Storyblok Docs](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/concepts/visual-editor), October 2026):

- Fetch the draft version of the content in the frontend.
- Add `_editable` attributes to the HTML.
- Load the Storyblok bridge.
- Set a Preview URL, served over HTTPS, because Storyblok's "security policy requires" it.

Sanity Visual Editing needs frontend work too: Sanity describes "seven distinct layers" ([Sanity Docs](https://www.sanity.io/docs/visual-editing/visual-editing-architecture), October 2026). Editors use it in the Presentation tool, which shows "your front end side by side with the Sanity Studio editorial interface" ([Sanity Docs](https://www.sanity.io/docs/user-guides/preview-and-page-building), October 2026). Developers can make that tool the Studio's home screen, because the first configured tool opens first ([Sanity Docs](https://www.sanity.io/docs/studio/tools-cheat-sheet)). Visual Editing is on every Sanity plan as of October 2026 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing); [Sanity's Growth plan post](https://www.sanity.io/blog/introducing-new-sanity-growth-plan)). Our [Visual Editing review](https://deploi.ca/sanity/features/visual-editing) lists the setup steps. Our view of Storyblok and of Visual Editing rests on each vendor's documentation and public sources.

## What do Storyblok and Sanity cost for a marketing team in October 2026?

Sanity Growth costs less than Storyblok's self-serve plans at 5 to 15 editors, billed monthly: $75 against $99 a month for 5 editors (Deploi arithmetic). Sanity Growth is $15 per seat a month up to 50 seats, billed monthly only; Viewer role users take no seat ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing), October 2026). Storyblok Growth is $99 a month with 5 seats, plus $15 a month per extra seat up to 10; Growth Plus is $349 a month with 15 seats, both billed monthly ([Storyblok pricing](https://www.storyblok.com/pricing), [Storyblok fact sheet](https://a.storyblok.com/f/88751/x/010505f975/storyblok-pricing-plan-factsheet.pdf), October 2026). Annual billing gives one month free, so Growth drops to $90.75 a month and Growth Plus to $319.91 ([Storyblok pricing](https://www.storyblok.com/pricing), October 2026).

**Monthly seat cost by team size, billed monthly (Deploi arithmetic)**

| Editors | Sanity Growth | Storyblok | Storyblok plan |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 5 | $75 | $99 | Growth |
| 10 | $150 | $174 | Growth, 5 extra seats |
| 15 | $225 | $349 | Growth Plus |
| 20 | $300 | Custom | Premium |

As of 24 October 2026.

Sanity's Free plan covers up to 20 seats at $0 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)), against 1 on Storyblok's free Starter plan ([Storyblok pricing](https://www.storyblok.com/pricing)). Overages don't map one to one: Storyblok meters API (application programming interface) requests and traffic; Sanity meters API CDN (content delivery network) requests, API requests, assets and bandwidth ([Storyblok fact sheet](https://a.storyblok.com/f/88751/x/010505f975/storyblok-pricing-plan-factsheet.pdf), [Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)).

## What does each plan hold back for larger teams?

Storyblok keeps GraphQL, releases, custom roles, single sign-on (SSO) and native A/B testing for Premium and Elite, while Sanity keeps [Content Releases](https://deploi.ca/sanity/features/content-releases), custom roles, SSO and an uptime service-level agreement (SLA) for Enterprise ([Storyblok pricing](https://www.storyblok.com/pricing), [Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing), October 2026).

**Entry paid plans compared, and where each gate opens, as of October 2026**

| Capability | Storyblok Growth | Sanity Growth |
| --- | --- | --- |
| GraphQL | Premium and Elite | Included |
| Scheduling | 2 stories at a time | No Growth quota published; 200 is a dataset limit |
| Multi-item releases | Premium, 20 releases | Enterprise add-on |
| Custom roles | Premium, 10 roles | Enterprise |
| SSO | Premium and Elite | Enterprise, SAML |
| A/B testing | Premium and Elite | Plugin |
| Uptime SLA | 97% | Enterprise |
| Content items | 25,000 stories | 25k documents |

SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) is Sanity's SSO standard; its CLI (command-line interface) login reference also mentions a Growth SAML add-on that pricing omits ([Sanity login reference](https://www.sanity.io/docs/cli-reference/login)). Sanity counts drafts with unpublished changes as second documents and excludes assets ([Sanity plans docs](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/plans-and-payments)). Sources: [Storyblok, Pricing](https://www.storyblok.com/pricing); [Storyblok, Storyblok Fact Sheet](https://a.storyblok.com/f/88751/x/010505f975/storyblok-pricing-plan-factsheet.pdf); [Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing); [Sanity Docs, Plans and payments](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/plans-and-payments); [Sanity Docs, Technical limits](https://www.sanity.io/docs/content-lake/technical-limits); [Sanity, The Content Operating System for all your content applications](https://www.sanity.io/enterprise); [Sanity, @sanity/personalization-plugin](https://www.sanity.io/plugins/sanity-personalization-plugin); [Sanity Docs, Login CLI command reference](https://www.sanity.io/docs/cli-reference/login). As of 24 October 2026.

Sanity's 200 is a dataset limit on active releases, Scheduled drafts included; the plan quota "may be lower" ([Sanity technical limits](https://www.sanity.io/docs/content-lake/technical-limits), October 2026). Sanity's Increased quota add-on, $299 a month, billed monthly, lifts Growth to 50k documents, so past that the path is Enterprise ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)).

## Can two editors work on the same page at once?

Sanity lets two editors work in the same document at once on every plan, while Storyblok warns the second editor who saves. Sanity's pricing page lists real-time editing, "No locking or losing work", and multiplayer presence on Free, Growth and Enterprise ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing), October 2026), and its editor guide compares the Studio to Google Docs ([Sanity guide](https://www.sanity.io/guides/create-an-effective-editor-experience), October 2026). Storyblok's manual says the second editor to save the same story after the first gets "a Content Conflict warning" ([Storyblok Docs](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/manuals/content-authoring), October 2026). That editor can copy their changes over or overwrite. Storyblok lists comments on every plan and Content Locking from Growth up ([Storyblok pricing](https://www.storyblok.com/pricing), [Storyblok fact sheet](https://a.storyblok.com/f/88751/x/010505f975/storyblok-pricing-plan-factsheet.pdf), October 2026).

> **Storyblok's marketing page and manual describe collaboration differently**
>
> Storyblok's Visual Editor page says editors "create, edit, and fine-tune content collaboratively in real-time" ([Storyblok Visual Editor page](https://www.storyblok.com/lp/visual-editor), October 2026). Its manual documents conflict warnings and locking instead ([Storyblok Docs](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/manuals/content-authoring)), and Sanity's comparison page says Storyblok "only supports commenting" ([Sanity comparison page](https://www.sanity.io/storyblok-vs-sanity)). No page documents two Storyblok editors typing in one story at once, so trial two editors on one story before co-editing decides your choice.

## How do Storyblok and Sanity content models differ?

Storyblok models content as stories built from blocks, Sanity as documents built from objects and arrays, and both link items with references:

- **Storyblok.** Content type blocks are stories, "Nestable blocks are children of other blocks", universal blocks work as either, and a reference "is a link to another story, within a story" ([Storyblok Docs](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/concepts/blocks), [Storyblok references docs](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/concepts/references), October 2026).
- **Sanity.** "Everything in Sanity Studio starts with the document", and relations between documents use the reference type ([Sanity Docs](https://www.sanity.io/docs/studio/document-type), [Sanity reference docs](https://www.sanity.io/docs/studio/reference-type), October 2026).

Reuse works the same way in both, by our reading of both vendors' docs. A Storyblok nestable block lives inside one story, as a Sanity object lives inside one document; to share either, you make it its own story or document and link to it. The difference is the starting point: Storyblok editors start from the page in the Visual Editor, Sanity editors from the document in Studio forms, so the choice matters most when content must outlive its page. Both can keep the schema in code: a Sanity schema is "JavaScript (or TypeScript) objects" ([Sanity Docs](https://www.sanity.io/docs/apis-and-sdks/introduction-to-schemas), October 2026), and Storyblok's command line can push a TypeScript definition with `schema push` ([Storyblok Docs](https://www.storyblok.com/docs/concepts/blocks)).

## What does a move from Storyblok to Sanity take?

A move from Storyblok to Sanity is a modeling job first, sized by five counts you can take before any quote:

- **Block types.** Each nestable block becomes a Sanity object type and each content type a document type.
- **Rich text.** Storyblok rich text, including blocks inserted into it, converts to Portable Text.
- **Locales.** Storyblok's field-level translation or separate content trees ([Storyblok fact sheet](https://a.storyblok.com/f/88751/x/010505f975/storyblok-pricing-plan-factsheet.pdf)) map to Sanity's field-level or document-level translation, which the [localization review](https://deploi.ca/sanity/review/localization) compares.
- **Links between stories.** They become references.
- **Assets and URLs.** Every image moves, and every changed path needs a redirect.

Sanity has no guided Storyblok path, so plan a scripted move. The December 2025 launch post for Sanity's Model Context Protocol (MCP) server lists guided paths from Contentful, WordPress, Strapi and Drupal ([Sanity blog](https://www.sanity.io/blog/sanity-remote-mcp-server-is-generally-available), October 2026), and Sanity's migration skill for AI agents has no Storyblok guide among its eight ([Sanity skill](https://github.com/sanity-io/agent-toolkit/blob/main/skills/sanity-migration/SKILL.md), October 2026). Sanity calls the skill "agent-scaffolded, not fully automated" ([Sanity blog](https://www.sanity.io/blog/august-releases-2026), October 2026). The [general migration plan for any content management system](https://deploi.ca/sanity/migration/cms-to-sanity) covers the steps.

> **When not to move from Storyblok to Sanity**
>
> - The website is your only channel and marketers build its pages from blocks every day.
> - Your team relies on Storyblok Premium's native A/B testing or Releases today.
> - Nobody will maintain a Sanity Studio after launch.

## Deploi's point of view

**Where we disagree.** Three standard claims are wrong. First, that Storyblok's visual editor lets marketers work without developers: Storyblok's own setup guide has developers fetch drafts, mark up every block, load its bridge and serve the preview over HTTPS before anyone clicks a block. Second, that Storyblok only supports commenting: its manual documents workflows, comments, conflict warnings and a locking app. What it doesn't document is two editors typing in the same story at once. Third, that Storyblok has limited nesting and no schema in code: its blocks nest inside other blocks, and its command line can push a TypeScript schema.

**What we've seen.** deploi.ca's Shopify sections run on Sanity, and we model each answer as its own structured document. Validation rules written as code check each answer's short summary for length and wording inside the Studio, and our Portable Text carries custom table and callout blocks: 229 of the 256 live answers in our Shopify FAQ hub contain a table, counted 24 October 2026. That is the payoff of field-level structure: each answer's fields are validated and queryable on their own. deploi.ca's own Sanity sections preview drafts through a custom preview, not Visual Editing or the Presentation tool; our view of Storyblok rests on its documentation and public sources, so both editing comparisons on this page rest on each vendor's documentation.

**What we'd tell you to do first.** Wire one real page in both products before you sign anything: Storyblok offers a 45-day Growth Plus trial, and Sanity's Free plan includes Visual Editing. Then have two marketers edit that page at the same time and count how many clicks a typical campaign change takes in each.

**What we refuse to promise.** We won't say which product gets marketers to their first published page sooner. Neither vendor publishes a neutral figure, and the setup work depends on your frontend, which we don't estimate without a scoped brief.

## When this answer changes

- Storyblok changes the Growth price, its 5 included seats or the 10 seat ceiling
- Storyblok moves GraphQL or Releases below Premium
- Storyblok ships simultaneous editing of one story
- Sanity changes the Growth seat price or the 50 seat limit
- Sanity moves Content Releases below Enterprise or adds an uptime SLA to Growth
- Sanity adds a Storyblok guide to its migration skill or a guided Storyblok path to its MCP server
