# What does Sanity cost? Plans, add-ons, overages and the price of building on it

Reviewed by Martin Dejnicki · facts verified 25 October 2026 · canonical: https://deploi.ca/sanity/cost

## Short answer

Sanity costs $0 on Free, $15 per seat a month on Growth and a custom price on Enterprise, in USD as of October 2026, plus Growth add-ons from $299 a month and metered overage ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)). The build is separate, so budget it apart: Deploi estimates a marketing site at 350 to 600 hours, $35,000 to $60,000 CAD before tax.

- **Growth plan price:** $15 per seat a month, up to 50 seats. Billed monthly by card in US dollars, as of October 2026. Viewers are free and take no seat; Sanity's pricing page says annual billing and invoicing are Enterprise only. ([Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing))
- **Growth document quota:** 25,000; 50,000 with the $299 add-on. Growth has no document overage. The Increased quota add-on, $299 a month, raises the total to 50,000; past that, the path is Enterprise, as of October 2026. ([Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing); [Sanity Docs, Plans and payments](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/plans-and-payments))
- **Deploi's estimate, marketing site:** 350 to 600 hours, $35,000 to $60,000 CAD. Deploi's estimate, 25 October 2026: 6 to 8 templates on Sanity and Next.js, about 7 to 12 weeks from kickoff to launch, before applicable taxes. Sanity's plan is billed separately. ([Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing))
- **Deploi's rate and overrun term:** $100 CAD an hour, capped at the estimate. Current as of September 2026. Every job is estimated in hours and approved in writing; a job that runs long is finished without extra hours, unless a cause outside Deploi's control changes it. ## How much does Sanity cost per month?

Sanity costs $0 on the Free plan, $15 per seat a month on Growth, and a custom price on Enterprise, billed in US dollars as of October 2026 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)). Viewers are free. Past its usage quotas, Growth bills overage where Free blocks requests ([Plans and payments](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/plans-and-payments)), so Deploi's judgment is to budget Growth by seats and watch usage.

**Growth keeps Free's API (application programming interface) and CDN (content delivery network) quotas**

| Item | Free | Growth | Enterprise |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Price (USD per month) | $0 | $15 per seat | Custom |
| Seats | Up to 20 | Up to 50 | Custom |
| Datasets | 2, public only | 2, private or public | Custom |
| Documents, all datasets | 10k | 25k | Custom |
| API CDN requests a month | 1M | 1M | Custom |
| API requests a month | 250k | 250k | Custom |
| Assets stored | 100 GB | 100 GB | Custom |
| Bandwidth a month | 100 GB | 100 GB | Custom |
| Live Connections per dataset | 1k | 1k | Custom |
| AI credits a month | 1,000 | 1,000 | 5,000 |
| Functions invocations a month | 500K | 500K | 500K |

Sources: [Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing). As of 24 October 2026.

[Free's quotas](https://deploi.ca/sanity/faq/is-sanity-free) decide whether a pilot needs Growth. A $99 a month quote is the old Team and Business entry price ([Sanity's Growth plan post](https://www.sanity.io/blog/introducing-new-sanity-growth-plan)).

## What does Sanity's Growth plan include, and where are its limits?

Sanity's Growth plan includes up to 50 paid seats, 5 permission roles, 2 private or public datasets, Comments and Tasks, Scheduled drafts, AI Assist and pay-as-you-go billing above its usage quotas, as of October 2026 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)). Deploi reads two limits into Growth that overage never lifts: documents and datasets.

- **Documents.** Growth includes 25k documents per project and has no document overage; the $299 a month Increased quota add-on raises the total to 50,000, and past that the path is Enterprise ([Plans and payments](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/plans-and-payments), October 2026).
- **What counts.** A document with unpublished changes counts as two, because the draft is stored separately; image and file assets don't count toward the document quota ([Plans and payments](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/plans-and-payments)).
- **Datasets.** Growth includes 2; the Extra datasets add-on allows 4 in all ([Growth plan add-ons](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/growth-plan-add-ons)).

Deploi keeps its own sections in one project: deploi.ca runs three Sanity Studio workspaces from one project over two datasets, and in September 2026 Deploi moved its FAQ hub into that project instead of paying for another. One Studio application serves all three workspaces. Counting documents before a migration keeps the document wall off import day.

## What do Sanity's add-ons and overages cost?

Sanity's Growth add-ons cost $799 a month for Dedicated Support, $299 for Increased quota and $999 per extra dataset; Growth bills API (application programming interface) and CDN (content delivery network) requests, storage and AI credits by use, as of October 2026 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)). Deploi arithmetic: one extra dataset outprices 50 seats.

**Add-ons are flat monthly fees; usage rows bill past each quota**

| Add-on or overage | Price (USD) and billing basis |
| --- | --- |
| Dedicated Support | $799 a month |
| Increased quota | $299 a month: 50k documents, higher quotas |
| Extra datasets | $999 per dataset a month, up to 2 more |
| API CDN requests over 1M | $1 per 250k |
| API requests over 250k | $1 per 25k |
| Assets over 100 GB | $0.50 per GB |
| Bandwidth over 100 GB | $0.30 per GB |
| AI credits over 1,000 | $0.05 per credit |
| Semantic searches over 1k | $1.50 per 1k |

Pricing puts Dedicated Support in Slack or Teams with an SLA (service level agreement); the add-ons doc says email ([Growth plan add-ons](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/growth-plan-add-ons)). Sources: [Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing); [Sanity Docs, How AI Credits work](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/how-ai-credits-work); [Sanity Docs, Extending the Growth plan with paid add-ons](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/growth-plan-add-ons). As of 24 October 2026.

Sanity says overage is charged on the first of the next month; spending alerts never stop usage ([Plans and payments](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/plans-and-payments); [Spending alerts](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/spending-alerts)). deploi.ca's FAQ search runs [semantic search in plain GROQ](https://deploi.ca/sanity/builds/semantic-search-in-groq) (Graph-Relational Object Queries) with `text::semanticSimilarity()`, so queries use the semantic search quota ([Dataset Embeddings](https://www.sanity.io/docs/content-lake/dataset-embeddings)).

## When do you need Sanity's Enterprise plan?

You need Sanity's Enterprise plan for SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) single sign-on, custom roles, backups, cross-dataset references or an uptime SLA (service level agreement), or to pass 50 seats, 4 datasets or 50,000 documents, as of October 2026 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)). Deploi's judgment: traffic growth alone doesn't force the move, because Growth bills requests and bandwidth as overage.

**What only Enterprise buys, as of October 2026**

| Capability | Growth | Enterprise |
| --- | --- | --- |
| SAML single sign-on | No | Yes |
| Custom roles | No, 5 fixed roles | Yes |
| Cross-dataset references | No | Yes |
| Backups | No | Custom |
| Uptime SLA | No | Yes |
| Content Releases | No | Paid add-on |
| Media Library | No | Paid add-on |
| Annual billing and invoicing | No | Yes |

Growth projects that had used Content Releases keep 2 active releases ([Scheduled drafts post](https://www.sanity.io/blog/scheduled-drafts)). A CLI (command-line interface) page mentions a Growth SAML add-on that pricing doesn't list ([Login CLI reference](https://www.sanity.io/docs/cli-reference/login)). Sources: [Sanity, Plans that scale with you](https://www.sanity.io/pricing); [Sanity Docs, Cross-dataset references](https://www.sanity.io/docs/studio/cross-dataset-references); [Sanity Docs, Backups](https://www.sanity.io/docs/content-lake/backups); [Sanity Docs, Media Library introduction](https://www.sanity.io/docs/media-library/introduction); [Sanity Docs, Content Releases user guide](https://www.sanity.io/docs/user-guides/content-releases); [Sanity, Scheduled Drafts: Stop manually publishing content at midnight](https://www.sanity.io/blog/scheduled-drafts). As of 24 October 2026.

Sanity prices Enterprise by contract: its pricing page reads "Custom" for seats, datasets and usage quota. The Enterprise quote is worth getting in writing with [Content Releases](https://deploi.ca/sanity/features/content-releases) and Media Library priced. deploi.ca's FAQ answers link into another dataset through validated URL strings, because cross-dataset references need Enterprise ([Cross-dataset references](https://www.sanity.io/docs/studio/cross-dataset-references)): 254 of 256 live answers do, counted 24 October 2026.

## How much does it cost to build a website on Sanity?

Deploi estimates Sanity websites in four sizes; a marketing site is 350 to 600 hours, or $35,000 to $60,000 CAD before tax, about 7 to 12 weeks from kickoff to launch. Sanity bills its plan separately, so budget for both.

These are Deploi's estimates as of 25 October 2026: the hours each part of the work takes (the content model, templates and components, integrations, content migration, testing and launch), priced at the published $100 CAD rate. Your project gets its own written estimate, and you agree the total before work begins; it changes only if the scope changes or a cause outside Deploi's control arises.

**Deploi's estimates, 25 October 2026**

| Size (templates) | Hours | CAD before tax | Kickoff to launch |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Existing-site section, 2 to 4 | 100 to 280 | $10,000 to $28,000 | 3 to 6 weeks |
| Marketing site, 6 to 8 | 350 to 600 | $35,000 to $60,000 | 7 to 12 weeks |
| Larger site, 9 to 15 | 600 to 1,350 | $60,000 to $135,000 | 11 to 20 weeks |
| Multilingual or multi-site, 16 to 25 | 1,300 to 2,350 | $130,000 to $235,000 | 5 to 9 months |

Every size covers editor roles and SEO (search engine optimization); site sizes add environments, deployment, analytics and WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 AA (double-A). Sources: [Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing). As of 25 October 2026.

## What adds to the cost of a Sanity build?

Deploi's estimate moves with eight cost drivers: templates and components, languages and sites, how much content moves and how messy its rich text is, integrations, Visual Editing and preview, design, custom Studio tools, and how strict the launch window and content freeze are.

**Deploi's estimates, 25 October 2026: add-ons to a project size**

| Add-on | Hours | CAD before tax |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Design, 25 to 35 hours a template | 50 to 140 (section), 150 to 280 (marketing), 225 to 525 (larger), 400 to 875 (platform) | At $100 an hour |
| A second language, without translation | 10 to 20 percent more | Same share |
| Each integration | 10 to 40 | $1,000 to $4,000 |
| Visual Editing on an existing Next.js site | 15 to 40 | $1,500 to $4,000 |
| Custom Studio tools, such as approval workflows | 20 to 80 | $2,000 to $8,000 |
| AI chatbot from the FAQ Hub with AI Chatbot template | 200 to 300 | $20,000 to $30,000 |

AI model and API (application programming interface) fees aren't in the chatbot estimate. Sources: [Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing). As of 25 October 2026.

Deploi's site estimates already include a migration, so a bigger one swaps in the larger size: 30 to 60 hours for up to about 500 entries, and 150 to 400 hours past 5,000 ([Sanity migration with Deploi](https://deploi.ca/sanity/migration)). [Bilingual sites in Canada](https://deploi.ca/sanity/agency/canada) carry a worked second-language example.

## What does a Sanity website cost in total?

Deploi's worked example, a marketing site with 6 templates and 200 pages in one language, comes to three costs, each kept in its own unit. Deploi estimates $41,500 CAD before tax to build and 10 to 20 support hours a month. Sanity's Growth plan adds $75 USD a month for five seats, in Deploi arithmetic.

**Deploi's estimates, 25 October 2026: the example build in Deploi arithmetic**

| Line | Hours | CAD before tax |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Content model and schema design | 40 | $4,000 |
| 6 templates at about 45 hours | 270 | $27,000 |
| Environments, deployment, analytics, SEO (search engine optimization) | 20 | $2,000 |
| Importing 200 pages | 35 | $3,500 |
| Testing, accessibility checks and launch | 30 | $3,000 |
| Training and post-launch support | 20 | $2,000 |
| Build total | 415 | $41,500 |

Sources: [Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing). As of 25 October 2026.

- **Build, once:** about 8 to 10 weeks from kickoff to launch, inside the marketing-site estimate.
- **Sanity, each month:** 5 seats at $15 on Growth, because Free offers only the Administrator and Viewer roles ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing), October 2026).
- **Support, each month:** 10 to 20 hours from your bank, drawn only when work is done, keeping Sanity Studio, plugins and the frontend current.

Deploi never adds the two currencies together. Hosting, writing, photography, licenses and sales tax sit outside its estimates.

## What happens if a Sanity project takes longer than its estimate?

Deploi finishes a job that runs past its estimate without drawing extra hours from your prepaid bank of hours, so billed hours never exceed the estimate you approved ([Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing), October 2026). The exception is a cause outside Deploi's control, such as a third-party integration issue; Deploi then reassesses the task with you.

Deploi bills every service at one rate, and it applies its published terms, current as of September 2026, to Sanity work:

- Every job is estimated in hours and approved in writing before it starts.
- A bigger project, such as a replatform, gets a total you agree before work begins; it changes only if the scope changes or a cause outside Deploi's control arises, and extra work needs your written approval first.
- Project management and strategic planning are built in, never drawn from your bank.
- The rate is $100 CAD an hour, prepaid, before applicable taxes, locked for 12 months from your first bank.

[Hiring Deploi for Sanity work](https://deploi.ca/sanity/agency) walks through how an engagement runs, and [Deploi's pricing page](https://deploi.ca/pricing) has the bank of hours in full.

## Questions buyers ask

### Can you cancel or downgrade a Sanity plan mid-month?

Yes. Sanity's docs say plan changes and cancellations take effect immediately and are prorated, so canceling a project on the 20th refunds one third of that month's cost, as of October 2026 ([Plans and payments](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/plans-and-payments)). Downgrading prorates the quotas too, which can trigger overage if the project already used more than the smaller plan includes.

### How much does Sanity Enterprise cost?

Sanity's pricing page doesn't list an Enterprise price. It lists Enterprise as custom pricing, with seats, datasets and usage quota set by contract and extra AI credits sold in bundles, as of October 2026 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)). Media Library and Content Releases are paid add-ons on top, so get each one priced in writing before you compare the quote with Growth.

### Can you pay for Sanity annually or by invoice?

Not on the self-serve plans. Sanity's Free and Growth plans pay monthly by card, and Sanity's pricing page says annual payment and invoicing come only with Enterprise, as of October 2026 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing)). So a finance team that pays only by invoice needs an Enterprise quote. Sanity's pricing page adds that no plan locks you into a minimum term.

### When do Sanity's Growth add-ons start billing?

Sanity bills a Growth add-on from the next billing cycle, as a line item on your invoice, as of October 2026 ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing); [Growth plan add-ons](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/growth-plan-add-ons)). [Sanity's add-ons doc](https://www.sanity.io/docs/platform-management/growth-plan-add-ons) says the Extra datasets add-on charges only when you create the extra dataset, not when you enable it, so enabling it ahead of a launch costs nothing until the dataset exists.

### How long does it take to build a site on Sanity?

Deploi estimates about 3 to 6 weeks from kickoff to launch for a Sanity section on an existing site, 7 to 12 weeks for a marketing site, 11 to 20 weeks for a larger site and 5 to 9 months for a multilingual platform, as of 25 October 2026. Your written estimate sets your dates, because scope sets the hours.

### Does Deploi's estimate include Sanity's subscription and hosting?

No. Deploi's estimates cover the hours of work only, so each running cost comes from its own supplier: Sanity bills its plan in US dollars, and the host bills frontend hosting. AI model fees, writing, translation, photography, third-party licenses and sales tax sit outside the estimate too. Sanity hosts Sanity Studio free on every plan ([Sanity pricing](https://www.sanity.io/pricing), October 2026).

### Do you charge for project management?

No. Deploi doesn't bill project management or strategic planning: its pricing page says both are built in and never drawn from your bank ([Deploi, Pricing](https://deploi.ca/pricing), October 2026). Your estimate covers the hands-on work, so the hours you approve go to content model and schema design, templates, migration, testing and training, at the published $100 CAD rate.

## Deploi's point of view

**Our take.** Budget Sanity as two bills and keep them apart. The build is the large number, and templates are the biggest line in each of Deploi's four project-size estimates. Sanity's own bill is small and predictable on seats; documents and datasets are the Growth limits overage never lifts, so model the 25,000-document quota and the $999 extra dataset before you sign, as of October 2026.

**Where we disagree.** Answers to what Sanity costs that stop at the seat price miss the walls, and a $99 a month Growth quote is the old Team and Business entry price, which Sanity replaced in November 2023. The bigger miss is reading Growth's pay-as-you-go as unlimited: requests, bandwidth and assets bill as overage, but documents stop at the quota. On the build side, a single starting price hides the template count, and the template count is what sets the hours.

**What we've seen.** Plan limits shaped deploi.ca's own Sanity setup. Three Sanity Studio workspaces run from one Studio application in one project over two datasets, and in September 2026 Deploi moved its FAQ hub out of a standalone project into that shared project rather than pay for another. Cross-dataset references need an Enterprise plan with the feature enabled, so the FAQ answers link to Build vs. Buy pages with validated URL strings: 254 of 256 live answers carry them, counted 24 October 2026. The FAQ search runs on GROQ text::semanticSimilarity(), which counts against Sanity's semantic search quota.

**What we refuse to promise.** A build price before we've seen your content model, templates and integrations. The tables here are Deploi's estimates as of 25 October 2026. Your project gets its own written estimate, and the total you approve is the most you're billed unless the scope changes or a cause outside Deploi's control arises.
