# What currencies can net payment terms actually be issued in? Does this work the same for international B2B buyers?

## Short answer

Net payment terms on Shopify carry no currency: a term is a type and a day count, so it runs in whatever currency the order is in ([Shopify developer docs](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/admin-graphql/latest/objects/PaymentTermsTemplate), October 2026). International buyers differ at collection: a deferred draft order in another currency can only be charged to a card or marked as paid ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/international/pricing/limitations), October 2026).

- **Currency on a payment term:** None: a term is a type and a day count. Shopify's payment terms template holds a name, a type and the number of days to the due date, so Net 60 is Net 60 in every market and every currency (October 2026). ([Shopify developer docs, PaymentTermsTemplate](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/admin-graphql/latest/objects/PaymentTermsTemplate))
- **Selling B2B in other currencies:** Requires Shopify Payments. Fixed catalog prices stay in the catalog's currency; percentage adjustments convert at exchange rates. Markets rounding rules don't apply to B2B customers (October 2026). ([Shopify Help Center, Selling internationally in B2B](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/getting-started/international))
- **Deferred draft order, other currency:** Card charge or mark as paid only. Shopify: with payment terms on a draft order in a currency other than your store currency, "you can only collect payment by credit card or by marking the order as paid" (October 2026). ([Shopify Help Center, Guidelines and restrictions for selling in local currencies](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/international/pricing/limitations))
- **ACH Direct Debit and vaulted bank:** US stores, USD, US bank accounts. ACH also needs more than 100 fulfilled orders, and vaulted bank accounts carry the same US-only rule. Vaulted credit cards need only Shopify Payments (October 2026). ([Shopify Help Center, Automated Clearing House Direct Debit payments for B2B orders](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/local-payment-methods/ach); [Shopify Help Center, Setting up bank account vaulting for B2B](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/checkout-and-orders/vaulted-bank-accounts); [Shopify Help Center, Setting up credit card vaulting for B2B](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/checkout-and-orders/vaulted-cards))

## Deploi's call

Terms travel to every currency you sell in, but the automated ways of getting paid don't, so the currency question is a settlement question wearing a currency costume. Scope cross-border business-to-business (B2B) terms against the settlement method first, and the currency configuration second.

**WAIT: Keep wholesale terms in your store currency while**

- Receipts in other currencies stay under roughly 10% of revenue, below which [our foreign exchange (FX) exposure record](https://deploi.ca/shopify/build-vs-buy/fx-exposure-and-treasury-hedging) scores hedging WAIT (October 2026).
- Buyers accept invoices in your currency, so they carry the rate movement across the term.
- You collect by Automated Clearing House (ACH) debit, which runs only for US stores, in USD, from US bank accounts ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/local-payment-methods/ach), October 2026).

**CUSTOMIZE: Invoice in the buyer's currency when**

- The account won't buy in your currency, and your store runs Shopify Payments, which multicurrency B2B requires ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/getting-started/international), October 2026).
- Finance can already see receipts by currency and settlement lag, the exposure view the FX record says to build before any hedge.
- You shorten the term, or review a fixed price list on a stated cadence, so the drift stays small.

## Which currency does a Shopify net payment term carry?

A Shopify net payment term carries no currency, because it is a type and a day count attached to an order. The payment terms template holds a name, a type and the "number of days between the issued date and due date" ([Shopify developer docs](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/admin-graphql/latest/objects/PaymentTermsTemplate), October 2026). You set terms per company location: net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90, due on fulfillment, or a fixed date on individual draft orders ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/checkout-and-orders/payment-terms), October 2026). So Net 60 is Net 60 in every market you sell into, and the order supplies the currency. [How net terms run from order to payment](https://deploi.ca/shopify/faq/b2b-net-terms-invoice-to-payment-flow) covers the mechanics. For international buyers, the difference shows up later, at collection.

## What sets the currency on an international B2B order?

The market sets the currency on an international business-to-business (B2B) order, and the shipping address decides the market. Shopify says the market "associated with the order, as well as the taxes and duties, are determined by the shipping address of the customer" ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/getting-started/international), October 2026). One company location can match several markets, so an order drop-shipped abroad can price in another market's currency ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/markets/managing), October 2026). Selling B2B in more than one currency requires Shopify Payments, and it works one of two ways ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/getting-started/international), October 2026):

- **Converted prices.** Prices convert at automatic or manual exchange rates, and Markets rounding rules "don't apply to B2B customers".
- **Fixed catalog prices.** A catalog can carry its own currency, but "The catalog currency doesn't determine the currency that your customers are presented with in your online store" ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/catalogs/creating-catalogs), October 2026).

So a euro price list doesn't make a buyer check out in euros unless the market's currency is euros too. [How hand-set currencies count against the 3-catalog limit](https://deploi.ca/shopify/faq/advanced-3-catalog-limit-at-20m-gmv-b2b) is a separate question.

## Does collecting on terms work the same for international buyers?

Collecting on terms doesn't work the same for international buyers, because Shopify ties its automated collection methods to Shopify Payments, to US dollars or to your store currency.

**Terms carry no currency limit; the ways to collect on them do**

| Collection method | Currency or country limit |
| --- | --- |
| Payment terms: net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90, due on fulfillment, fixed date | None |
| Draft order with deferred payment in a non-store currency | Card charge or mark as paid only |
| Vaulted credit card | Shopify Payments required |
| Automated Clearing House (ACH) debit and vaulted bank accounts | US stores, USD, US bank accounts, more than 100 fulfilled orders |
| Store credit on a company location | One balance per currency; only the checkout currency's balance shows |
| Wire or check, recorded by hand | None from Shopify; your bank's fees and your reconciliation |

So an international buyer can be issued Net 60 in their own currency, but can't settle it by ACH, and you can't debit a vaulted bank account for them. Outside the United States, the routes left for a non-USD terms order include a card on Shopify Payments, store credit, or a wire you record by hand.

## What changes on a draft order priced in another currency?

A draft order priced in another currency locks its exchange rate, keeps the shipping address's taxes, and reprices if you edit it. Shopify calculates the rate when you create the draft, and "This rate is fixed and used on the invoice regardless of whether the exchange rate changes" ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/b2b/getting-started/international), October 2026). Edit the saved draft later and the whole order reprices at the current rate.

Changing a draft's market changes its prices and currency, but taxes and duties still follow the shipping address. In Shopify's example, a Canadian address repriced in US dollars "retains the Canadian taxes and duties". On a terms order that sits open for 60 days, a mis-taxed draft becomes a credit note later, so fix the address before you change the market. Shopify also warns that when a third-party service sets a market's exchange rate, "the amount charged on the order can differ from the amount you receive in payment".

## Who carries the exchange-rate risk on a 60-day term?

You carry the exchange-rate risk on a 60-day term whenever you invoice in the buyer's currency, because Shopify converts when the money moves, not when the order is placed. Shopify says the rate used "is always the rate at the time of the transaction", and "Whenever there is a time delay in processing payments or refunds, there is a possibility that you might lose or gain money" ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/international/pricing/exchange-rates), October 2026). So a euro invoice fixed on order day converts to your currency at whatever the rate is when the buyer pays. Pick one of three positions explicitly, and size it with [our foreign exchange (FX) exposure record](https://deploi.ca/shopify/build-vs-buy/fx-exposure-and-treasury-hedging) (October 2026):

1. **Price in your home currency** and let the buyer carry the FX. Simplest, and some buyers will refuse.
1. **Price in the buyer's currency on a fixed price list** and review the list on a stated cadence. You carry the drift between reviews, and the list is a commercial document you can show.
1. **Price in the buyer's currency and shorten the term.** Net 30 halves the exposure window against Net 60 (Deploi arithmetic), at no cost to anyone but the buyer's working capital.

## When should you not offer cross-border net terms?

Don't offer cross-border net terms where you can't collect, or where the exchange rate can move more than your margin, because either one turns the term into a discount.

> **When not to do this**
> - **When you have no collections route in that jurisdiction.** A due date you can't enforce is a price concession.
> - **When the term is long enough that exchange-rate movement exceeds the margin.** Do the arithmetic against your own currency pair, not a benchmark.
> - **When the account expects bank debits and isn't in the United States.** Automated Clearing House (ACH) debits need a US bank account and US dollars ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/payments/shopify-payments/local-payment-methods/ach), October 2026), and discovering that at checkout is a bad first order.
> - **When your duties plan assumes Managed Markets.** Check [whether Managed Markets covers wholesale orders](https://deploi.ca/shopify/faq/managed-markets-b2b-wholesale-or-dtc-only) before you quote a landed price on terms.

*This page describes platform behaviour and commercial modelling, not tax, customs or foreign-exchange advice. Duties, tax treatment and cross-border collections obligations are jurisdiction-specific.*

## Deploi's point of view

**Where we disagree.** The standard advice is to align catalog currency with market currency and move on. That is fine as far as it goes, and it skips the question that actually costs money: who holds the exchange-rate exposure for the length of the term. We would rather a client shorten the term than quietly absorb 60 days of drift on a large account.

**What we check first.** We compare each catalog's currency with its market's currency before anyone loads a price list. In our judgment a mismatch there is the configuration surprise that costs the most rework, because it only shows once the prices are in.

**What this page adds.** The parent explains how net terms run from order to payment. This page adds the currency layer: terms carry no currency, the buyer's market sets it, collection narrows outside your store currency and outside the United States, and there are three defensible ways to allocate exchange-rate risk across a 60-day term.

## When this answer changes

- Shopify adds a currency field to payment terms, or lifts the card-or-mark-as-paid limit on deferred draft orders in other currencies.
- Shopify extends Automated Clearing House (ACH) debits or bank account vaulting beyond US stores and US dollars.
- Shopify changes how B2B orders pick their market, or starts applying Markets rounding rules to B2B customers.
- Shopify changes when it converts a payment in another currency, or how a draft order locks its exchange rate.
- A key account outside the United States asks to pay terms orders by local bank debit.
