# How does Wix's built-in POS (if used in a retail location) migrate to Shopify POS, and does the hardware carry over?

## Short answer

Wix's point of sale (POS) hardware mostly carries over to Shopify POS, because Shopify's printer and scanner lists name the Epson, Zebra and Socket models Wix sells ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/receipt-printers), [Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/supported-hardware/barcode-scanners), [Wix, October 2026](https://www.wix.com/pos/hardware/product-page/wix-complete-register)). Card readers do not, and terminals only if they meet Shopify's device rules. Shopify's Wix guide moves products, customers and order history and never mentions POS ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/migrating-to-shopify/migrating-from-wix), October 2026).

- **Hardware that matches Shopify's lists:** Epson TM-m30III, Zebra DS2208, SocketScan S720. Wix sells all three for its POS Register, and Shopify names them on its receipt printer and scanner lists (Wix and Shopify Help Center, October 2026) ([Wix, Complete POS Register](https://www.wix.com/pos/hardware/product-page/wix-complete-register); [Shopify Help Center, Receipt Printers](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/receipt-printers); [Shopify Help Center, Global selection of Shopify POS barcode scanners](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/supported-hardware/barcode-scanners))
- **Card readers:** None carry over. Wix POS works only for merchants on Wix Payments, and Shopify says a Shopify-supported card reader needs Shopify Payments (October 2026) ([Wix, Point of Sale](https://www.wix.com/pos); [Shopify Help Center, Choosing the right card reader for your Shopify store](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/card-readers/choosing-card-reader))
- **Wix register terminal:** HP no longer sold; current kits are Elo-based. Wix's US shop sells an Essential POS Register at $1,199 and a Complete one at $1,699. Shopify POS needs an iPad, iPhone or qualifying Android device (October 2026) ([Wix Help Center, Wix POS Register: Connecting Your HP POS Hardware](https://support.wix.com/en/article/wix-retail-pos-connecting-your-pos-hardware); [Wix, Wix POS Hardware Shop](https://www.wix.com/pos/hardware); [Shopify Help Center, Getting started with hardware for Shopify POS](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/getting-started))
- **Store Migration app, Wix path:** Early access, certain stores, desktop only. Per Shopify's Help Center (October 2026). The App Store listing names Wix as a source with no caveat, and the Wix guide never mentions POS ([Shopify Help Center, Migrate from Wix](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/migrating-to-shopify/migrating-from-wix); [Shopify App Store, Shopify Store Migration](https://apps.shopify.com/store-migration))

## Deploi's call

A Wix point of sale (POS) migration is mostly a hardware and habits project, not a data project. Printers, scanners and cash drawers largely carry over; card readers do not, and terminals only if they meet Shopify's device rules. Shopify's Wix guide gives in-store data no documented path. So budget for a terminal, a reader and a week of floor training, and stop looking for a data migration that does not exist.

**BUY: Move the Wix register to Shopify POS when**

- The online store now runs on Shopify, so one catalog and one stock count can serve both, the case [our POS and ecommerce coherence record](https://deploi.ca/shopify/build-vs-buy/pos-ecom-coherence) makes against any sync.
- Your register tablet is from Wix's older HP (Hewlett-Packard) generation, which Wix no longer sells ([Wix Help Center](https://support.wix.com/en/article/wix-retail-pos-connecting-your-pos-hardware), October 2026).
- A pilot store can test the printer, scanner and cash drawer against Shopify's lists first.

**WAIT: Keep the Wix register for a quarter at most while**

- The online store is the urgent project, so the register cutover runs later with its own pilot.
- The Wix register kit is recent, so the terminal's replacement can wait for a capital budget.

## Which Wix POS hardware carries over to Shopify POS?

Wix's printers and scanners carry over to Shopify point of sale (POS), and its cash drawer likely does. Card readers do not, and terminals only if they meet Shopify's device rules. Wix's Complete POS Register kit combines other makers' parts: an Elo terminal, an Epson TM-m30III printer, a Zebra DS2208 scanner, a cash drawer, model CD4 (Star Micronics), and a Stripe card reader ([Wix](https://www.wix.com/pos/hardware/product-page/wix-complete-register), October 2026). Shopify's receipt printer page names the TM-m30III ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/receipt-printers), October 2026), and its scanner list names the DS2208 ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/supported-hardware/barcode-scanners), October 2026). So test each part in one store out of hours, the hardware step in [the Lightspeed cutover sequence](https://deploi.ca/shopify/faq/migrate-lightspeed-pos-without-store-downtime).

**Printers and scanners carry over, the drawer likely does, card readers do not, and terminals only if they meet Shopify's device rules**

| Wix component | Carries to Shopify POS? |
| --- | --- |
| Epson TM-m30III printer | Yes, on Shopify's receipt printer pages |
| Older Epson m30 series printer | Check the model: Shopify names the TM-m30II and TM-m30III |
| Zebra DS2208 or SocketScan S720 (Socket Mobile) scanner | Yes, both on Shopify's scanner list |
| Star Micronics CD4 cash drawer | Likely: Shopify lists the CD4-1416 and CD4-1616 models |
| HP (Hewlett-Packard) printer from the older register | No, not on Shopify's printer lists |
| Elo or HP register terminal | Only if it meets Shopify's device rules |
| Card reader | No |

## Why don't Wix card readers carry over to Shopify POS?

Wix card readers do not carry over because each one runs on Wix Payments, and Shopify point of sale (POS) readers run on Shopify Payments. Wix POS is available only to merchants connected to Wix Payments ([Wix](https://www.wix.com/pos), October 2026). Shopify says that "To use a Shopify-supported card reader, you need to use Shopify Payments" ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/sell-in-person/hardware/card-readers/choosing-card-reader), October 2026). Wix lists six readers for its register, including the WisePad 3 for Canada and the UK ([Wix Help Center](https://support.wix.com/en/article/wix-retail-pos-selecting-a-card-reader), October 2026). A WisePad 3 bought through Wix stays a Wix Payments device, a trap [the answer on reusing Lightspeed hardware](https://deploi.ca/shopify/faq/lightspeed-hardware-reuse-with-shopify-pos) explains for Lightspeed Payments. Budget one Shopify reader for each register.

## What Wix data can move to Shopify, and what has no path?

Products, customers and order history can move from Wix to Shopify, reviews cannot be exported, and Shopify's Wix guide gives in-store sales no path of their own. The guide imports products and customers with Shopify's Store Migration app and routes order history through third-party apps such as Cart2Cart and LitExtension ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/migrating-to-shopify/migrating-from-wix), October 2026). The guide says "you can't export or migrate reviews from Wix to Shopify" and never mentions point of sale (POS), retail locations, gift cards or store credit. For in-store history, import only the window your returns policy needs, the rule in [what customer history survives a Lightspeed move](https://deploi.ca/shopify/faq/lightspeed-purchase-history-loyalty-points-transfer). Wix sells physical gift cards that work only with its POS Register ([Wix](https://www.wix.com/pos/hardware), October 2026), so plan any card book as its own task: [moving gift card balances intact](https://deploi.ca/shopify/faq/lightspeed-gift-card-balance-migration) covers the Shopify side.

> **Shopify's pages disagree on Wix in the Store Migration app**
> The App Store listing names Wix among its sources with no caveat ([Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/store-migration), October 2026). The Help Center says the app "is in early access, and is available only for certain stores and on desktop devices" ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/migrating-to-shopify/migrating-from-wix), October 2026). Check that the app offers Wix on your store before the plan depends on it.

## How does a Wix POS move differ from a Lightspeed one?

A Wix point of sale (POS) move is simpler than a Lightspeed one on loyalty and product lines, and harder on tooling and register timing:

- **Points, not dollars.** Wix's loyalty program runs on points that customers redeem at the POS Register or turn into coupons ([Wix Help Center](https://support.wix.com/en/article/wix-pos-register-allowing-customers-to-redeem-loyalty-points), October 2026). Points move to a points app as a file of customer emails and balances; see [how points import into Smile.io or LoyaltyLion](https://deploi.ca/shopify/faq/loyalty-module-mapping-smile-io-loyaltylion). Lightspeed X-Series loyalty is a dollar balance ([Lightspeed](https://x-series-support.lightspeedhq.com/hc/en-us/articles/25535035254427-Adjusting-customer-loyalty-balances), October 2026), which is harder to place.
- **One product line.** Wix POS syncs every in-person and online sale to one Wix dashboard ([Wix](https://www.wix.com/pos), October 2026), so there is no X-Series against R-Series split.
- **A register replacement with a price.** Wix no longer sells its older HP (Hewlett-Packard) hardware ([Wix Help Center](https://support.wix.com/en/article/wix-retail-pos-connecting-your-pos-hardware), October 2026), and a new Wix register kit costs $1,199 to $1,699 in Wix's US shop ([Wix](https://www.wix.com/pos/hardware), October 2026). If the old tablet fails mid-project, that price is the case for moving to Shopify POS now.
- **Thinner tooling.** Shopify's Wix guide names order-history apps but nothing built for in-store data.

## When should the Wix register not move with the website?

The Wix register should not move with the website when the online store is the urgent problem, or when a recent Wix register would be retired early:

> **When not to do this**
> - **When the online store is the urgent problem.** Move the website first and keep the register on Wix for a quarter at most, because two catalogs and two stock counts drift apart. Then run the point of sale (POS) cutover as its own project, with its own pilot store.
> - **When the Wix register is recent and the budget is tight.** The terminal is the largest replacement line, so time it to a capital budget rather than a web launch date.

## Deploi's point of view

**Where we disagree.** Migration guides treat Wix as a website platform, which is why every Wix-to-Shopify article is about products, redirects and SEO. For a merchant with a till, the website is the easy half. Neither vendor's documentation acknowledges the other half, and pretending the silence means "it just works" is how a store ends up without a working register on a Monday.

**What this page adds.** that Wix's current register kit (Epson TM-m30III printer, Zebra DS2208 and SocketScan S720 scanners, Star Micronics CD4 drawer) matches models on Shopify's supported lists, that Wix card readers run on Wix Payments and never carry over, that Wix still sells a replacement register while its HP generation is retired, and that Shopify's Wix migration guide never mentions POS or in-store history.

## When this answer changes

- Shopify takes the Store Migration app's Wix path out of early access, or its Wix guide adds point of sale data, gift cards or store credit.
- Wix changes the hardware in its POS Register kits, or opens Wix POS to processors other than Wix Payments.
- Shopify adds or drops the Epson TM-m30III, Zebra DS2208, SocketScan S720 or Star Micronics CD4 drawers on its hardware lists.
- Shopify's 2027 device minimums take effect: Android 13 or higher, and iOS 18 or higher on iPads and iPhones.
