Retail ecommerce sales as a share of total retail sales in Canada rose from 3.5% in 2019 to 6.1% in 2020 and 6.5% in 2021, eased to 5.5% in 2022 and 5.7% in 2023, then reached 7.1% in 2024 and 7.0% in 2025. In 2025, retail ecommerce sales were C$59.2 billion out of C$843.6 billion in total retail sales. Shares and annual totals are computed by Deploi from Statistics Canada's monthly unadjusted values.

Methodology

- The 2025 share of 7.0% is slightly below the 2024 share of 7.1%, the highest year shown.
- Shares are computed by Deploi: retail ecommerce sales over total retail sales, each the sum of 12 monthly unadjusted values from Statistics Canada table 20-10-0056-01.
- Both series cover the retail trade sector (NAICS 44-45) as Statistics Canada defines it.
- In the 12 months to July 2026, the latest period in the table, the share was 7.1%.
Caveats: Canadian retail ecommerce and total retail sales, monthly, unadjusted, 2019 to July 2026
- Values are unadjusted and in current Canadian dollars, which Statistics Canada publishes in thousands. They keep the seasonal pattern and include price changes.
- Annual and 12-month rows are sums of 12 monthly values, computed by Deploi. Statistics Canada does not publish them in this table.
- Ecommerce sales and total retail sales both cover the retail trade sector as Statistics Canada defines it.
- From November 2022 to July 2026, every monthly ecommerce value except June 2023 and June 2026 carries Statistics Canada quality flag B or C, below its top grade A; earlier months carry no flag. The latest month, July 2026, carries flag B.
- The table has no provincial ecommerce figures, so the ecommerce share is a national measure only.
