How does Wix's built-in POS (if used in a retail location) migrate to Shopify POS, and does the hardware carry over?
Wix Retail POS hardware largely carries over to Shopify POS. Wix uses Epson TM-m30 series receipt printers, which appear on Shopify's supported list, and printer-driven RJ-12 cash drawers, the connection Shopify POS also uses (September 2026). The card reader does not carry over, and Wix's HP register is discontinued.
The hardware story is unusually good, for an unusual reason
Wix did not build a proprietary hardware ecosystem. Its own setup documentation describes a register built from other people's parts: an HP POS tablet, an HP printer over USB-C or an Epson M30 series printer over USB, a USB-A barcode scanner, and a cash drawer that "connects to printer using RJ-12 connector" (per Wix Help Center, September 2026).
Line that up against Shopify's published list and the overlap is immediate. Shopify supports the Epson TM-m30II and TM-m30III, supports "any HID (Human Interface Device) barcode scanner" in keyboard emulation mode, and states that "most cash drawers need to connect to a compatible receipt printer" using exactly that printer-to-drawer cable (per Shopify Help Center, September 2026).
| Wix component | Carries to Shopify POS? |
|---|---|
| Epson M30 series printer | Yes. On Shopify's published list. |
| HP printer (USB-C) | No. Not on Shopify's list, and tied to the discontinued HP register. |
| USB barcode scanner | Almost certainly yes, as an HID keyboard-mode device. |
| RJ-12 cash drawer | Test it. The connection standard matches; the specific model is unlikely to be on Shopify's list, and unlisted is not the same as non-functional. |
| HP POS tablet | No. "It is no longer possible to purchase HP POS Hardware" (Wix, Sep 2026), and it is not a Shopify POS device. Replace with an iPad or supported Android device. |
| Card reader (Stripe Reader M2, WisePad 3, Wix POS Go, Desktop Card Reader) | No. |
Why the card reader is a hard no here too, and why the WisePad 3 is a trap twice over
Wix Retail POS supports the Stripe Reader M2 in the US, the WisePad 3 in Canada and the UK, the Wix POS Go, and a now-discontinued Desktop Card Reader (per Wix Help Center, September 2026). Shopify requires its own readers and states you "must use Shopify Payments" to run them (per Shopify Help Center, September 2026).
The WisePad 3 appears on Wix's list, on Lightspeed's list and on Shopify's list. Three vendors, one model number, three non-interchangeable devices, because a payment terminal is provisioned to a processor. This is the second page in this thread that has to say so, which tells you how often it comes up.
The data story is thinner than the hardware story
Shopify's Store Migration app names Wix among its supported sources and moves "product and customer data" (per Shopify, July 2026). Shopify's Wix migration guide walks through product export, customer export, order history via third-party apps, and states that "you can't export or migrate reviews from Wix to Shopify" (per Shopify Help Center, September 2026).
What it does not do is mention Wix POS, retail locations or in-store sales anywhere. There is no documented path for Wix in-store transaction history, no gift card path, and no store-credit path.
So the honest answer for in-store history is the same one the parent thread gives for Lightspeed R-Series: export what Wix will give you, import the window your returns policy needs through a third-party tool if it is worth it, and archive the rest outside the platform. Do not expect a POS-aware migration path, because neither vendor publishes one.
What is genuinely easier here than on a Lightspeed migration
- No loyalty currency to unwind. Wix Retail POS does not ship the dollar-denominated in-store loyalty balance that makes the Lightspeed version of this question hard.
- One less product-line ambiguity. There is one Wix Retail POS, not an X-Series and an R-Series with different export surfaces.
- Smaller estates. Wix Retail POS is typically running in one or two doors rather than fourteen, which makes a single cutover the right default rather than the risky one.
What is harder
- Discontinued register hardware. If the HP tablet fails mid-project there is no replacement to buy, which puts a real deadline on a project that otherwise had none.
- Less third-party migration tooling. The named order-migration apps support Wix, but the tooling ecosystem around Wix POS specifically is thin.
When NOT to migrate a Wix retail location on the same timeline as the website
- When the online store is the urgent problem. Move the website, keep the register on Wix for a quarter, and do the POS cutover as its own project with its own pilot.
- When the HP hardware is still healthy and the budget is tight. The register replacement is the largest line here; time it against a capex cycle rather than a web launch date.
The Deploi point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Separate from the facts above.
- Our take: A Wix POS migration is mostly a hardware and habits project, not a data project, because there is very little in-store data Wix will hand over and almost nothing Shopify will natively accept. Budget for a register, a reader and a week of floor training, and stop looking for a data migration that does not exist.
- Where we disagree: Migration guides treat Wix as a website platform, which is why every Wix-to-Shopify article is about products, redirects and SEO. For a merchant with a till, the website is the easy half. Neither vendor's documentation acknowledges the other half, and pretending the silence means "it just works" is how a store ends up without a working register on a Monday.
- What this page adds: that Wix Retail POS is built from Epson TM-m30 printers, HID scanners and RJ-12 drawers that mostly match Shopify's supported list, that the HP register is discontinued and therefore sets a real deadline, and that Shopify's Wix migration documentation never mentions POS or in-store history at all.
