What's the real implementation timeline for Skio on a $10M-$30M GMV Shopify Plus brand with an existing subscriber base to migrate?
Short answer
A Skio implementation for a $10M to $30M Shopify Plus brand moving existing subscribers takes 60 to 90 days, the range merchants report for subscription migrations (Deploi Build vs. Buy, July 2026 research). Skio's integration and migration timeline is only 4 to 5 weeks (Skio Help Center, October 2026), so vault discovery, variant mapping and product-page work fill the gap.

- Live on Skio before data moves
- 24 to 36 hours, or about 24Skio's migrations guide says at least 24 to 36 hours of new subscriptions first, its overview about 24; the data step then typically takes 2 to 3 days (October 2026).Sources: Skio Help Center (Skio Migrations Guide, Data Migration: An Overview)
Deploi’s call
Plan for 90 days and treat 60 as the good outcome, because the variance is not in Skio's execution. It sits in the Shopify payment method request and in whether anyone scoped the product page.
CustomizePlan on 60 days when
- The cards sit in a Stripe, Braintree or Authorize.net account the new store can connect as a secondary gateway (Skio Help Center, Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- The catalog is frozen before the variant-mapping file starts.
- The product-page purchase option is designed and signed off before Skio's integration begins.
- The storefront is already live and stable.
WaitPush the migration date back when
- The storefront launches in the same quarter.
- Many subscribers pay with Shop Pay, which Skio cannot move between stores (Skio Help Center, October 2026).
- Peak season would land inside Skio's queue of 1 to 3 weeks, which cannot be expedited (Skio Help Center, October 2026).

Where do the 60 to 90 days actually go?
The 60 to 90 days go to six overlapping phases, and Skio's own steps fill only the middle of them. Merchants report that range for subscription migrations in general (Deploi Build vs. Buy, July 2026 research); the phase timings are Deploi's planning judgment for a Plus brand at $10 million to $30 million. Each phase needs its full time, because rushing one raises the subscriber-loss risk of moving onto Skio.
| Phase | Elapsed (weeks) | What blocks it |
|---|---|---|
| Vault discovery and the Shopify payment method request | 1 to 3 | Shopify's card-number migration, open to Plus and Enterprise stores |
| Variant-mapping file | 2 to 4 | A changing catalog; the merchant fills in and verifies the file |
| Plan Picker and plan setup | 2 to 6 | Design sign-off; Skio's scope stops at matching your existing widget |
| Go live on Skio for new subscriptions | 5 to 6 | Skio's live check: 24 to 36 hours by its guide, about 24 by its overview |
| Skio data migration | 6 to 8 | 2 to 3 days, or 1 to 3 weeks in Skio's queue from another store or outside Shopify |
| Validation, comms and legacy app removal | 9 to 12 | The first charge dates, which the contracts fix; legacy billing already stopped on migration day |
Why is Skio's 4 to 5 weeks not the project timeline?
Skio's 4 to 5 weeks is not the project timeline because it starts when your prerequisites are done and ends when the data moves. Skio says merchants hear from its Migrations team within 3 to 5 business days of finishing the prerequisites. The whole integration and migration then takes 4 to 5 weeks, with buffers for your team's review (Skio Help Center, October 2026). The store must be live on Skio before Skio previews the existing subscriptions: at least 24 to 36 hours by its migrations guide (Skio Help Center), about 24 by its overview (Skio Help Center, October 2026). The data step itself typically takes 2 to 3 days (Skio Help Center, October 2026).
Skio's clock covers none of the vault work, the catalog freeze or the old app's removal. Skio's process also never bills the same subscriber from two platforms. The merchant stops the old platform's billing on migration day, and Skio holds billing for migrated subscriptions until that is confirmed (Skio Help Center, October 2026). Shopify "strongly recommend[s]" pausing billing in the old app while payment methods and contracts move, because pausing "helps you avoid double-billing a contract" (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).
What decides whether you land at 60 days or 90?
Four facts decide whether you land at 60 days or 90, and none of them is Skio's execution.
- Where the cards are vaulted. Cards held in a Stripe, Braintree or Authorize.net account, as on legacy Recharge or a store outside Shopify, move once the new store connects that account (Skio Help Center, Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Cards in Shopify's vault wait on Shopify's Professional Services migration, which a Plus store can use (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). In our judgment that one fact is worth two to four weeks; where each saved payment method sits in a store-to-store move has its own answer.
- Whether the catalog is frozen. Every product change during mapping is rework on a file someone filled in by hand.
- Whether the product page is in scope. Skio's team sets up its Plan Picker and matches your existing widget; other design or functional updates are out of its typical scope (Skio Help Center, October 2026). On a new theme, that gap is yours.
- How your billing dates spread. If most contracts bill in the first week of the month, plan around that week. Skio migrates early in the week, after that day's legacy billing has run (Skio Help Center, October 2026), so the date has to dodge your busiest billing days.
When does the timeline need to be longer, or split in two?
The timeline needs to be longer, or split into two projects, whenever the storefront is also moving. This is a platform timeline, not a replatform timeline, so a storefront move pushes the total past a single quarter.
Subscriber messages run on the same calendar: the four-message sequence keys two sends to the cutover and two to each subscriber's charge date.
Deploi’s point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.
- What we’ve seen
- Timelines slip at two points, and neither is Skio's migration step. The first is the vault discovery, because nobody on the merchant side knows where the cards are until someone asks the question formally. The second is validation after the first charge cycle, which teams try to compress to a week and then extend anyway, because that cycle surfaces the billing-date errors.
- Where we disagree
- Vendors quote the migration window as the implementation timeline. The migration window is one phase inside it, and in our experience it is not the phase that slips.
- What this page adds
- The phase-by-phase calendar for a named revenue band, Skio's own published steps inside it, and the two phases that carry the variance.
Decision records behind this answer
When this answer changes
- Skio changes its stated 4 to 5 week timeline, its 24 to 36 hour live period or its 1 to 3 week queue.
- Recharge publishes the combined Recharge and Skio roadmap, or changes how Skio onboards and migrates merchants.
- Shopify changes which plans can use its card-number migration service.
- The storefront launch moves into the same quarter as the subscription migration.

- How do we migrate active subscription contracts (Recharge, Skio, or native Shopify Subscriptions) from one Shopify store to another during consolidation?
Active subscription contracts move between two Shopify stores only as far as their saved payment methods do, because each store keeps its own.
- Should we migrate to a Shopify-native subscription setup, or keep our subscription app (Recharge/Skio) completely separate from the core platform migration timeline?
Subscription billing belongs on its own timeline, not inside the core platform migration.
- How do we communicate a subscription-platform migration to active subscribers so they don't think their subscription was cancelled or their payment failed?
A subscription migration needs four messages, starting 14 days before cutover, because unexplained changes read as a cancellation (Deploi practice).
