What does the Salesforce acquisition change for Contentful customers who do not use Salesforce?
Short answer
Contentful has published no price, plan, term or limit change because of the Salesforce acquisition, as of 24 October 2026, so customers who don't use Salesforce renew against the same published terms (Contentful usage limits, October 2026). Its usage limits date from 22 January 2026 and its online terms from 15 September 2025 (Contentful Terms of Service, October 2026).

Deploi’s call
Treat the Salesforce deal as a reason to read your Contentful renewal closely, not as a reason to leave. Nothing Contentful publishes about prices, plans or terms has changed yet, so the risk sits in what isn't written down: the next term's price, the company on your order form and the sub-processors that touch your content. Get those in writing before you sign, and keep the term short if you can't.
UpgradeRenew Contentful on your current terms when
- Your order form carries price protection and data terms you accept, so your renewal starts from terms you've already signed.
- You also run Salesforce Customer 360, so the native integration Salesforce describes is a gain rather than a risk.
- Contentful answers your renewal questions in writing before you sign, so the answers sit beside your order form.
WaitRenew Contentful for a short term and reassess when
- The renewal asks for a multi-year term without a price cap, because nothing published as of October 2026 tells you what the next term costs.
- You depend on Contentful Personalization, Contentful Studio or Marketplace apps, and neither company has said what the acquisition changes for them as of October 2026.
- Your sub-processor or data processing review can't finish before the renewal date, so a short term buys the review time.
What has the Salesforce deal changed for Contentful customers so far?
Contentful has published no price, plan, term or limit change because of the Salesforce deal, as of 24 October 2026. Every dated Contentful page a renewal depends on is a version from before the deal, except the sub-processor list, which was revised after it and names no Salesforce entity. Across the site, the visible change is a banner reading "Contentful is now officially part of Salesforce!" (Contentful pricing, October 2026). Use the table as your baseline at renewal; whether to renew, renegotiate or leave is the Contentful renew or leave decision.
| Contentful page | Version in force | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Undated, with the Salesforce banner | Lite at $300 a month, Enterprise custom |
| Usage limits | 22 January 2026 | Free and Lite limits, plans launched 18 November 2024 |
| Online Terms of Service | Effective 15 September 2025 | No mention of Salesforce |
| EU Data Act Addendum | Effective 12 September 2025 | Maximum switching notice of two months, where it applies |
| Sub-processors | Effective 8 October 2026 | Ten named vendors plus Contentful affiliates; no Salesforce entity |
The price-by-price Sanity and Contentful comparison works through what those plans cost.
When did Salesforce buy Contentful, and what did it pay?
Salesforce says it completed the purchase of Contentful on 1 September 2026, and its quarterly filing puts the price at about $1.5 billion in cash. Salesforce's Form S-8, filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on 1 September 2026, says the merger agreement was signed on 29 May 2026 and the acquisition completed on 1 September 2026 (Salesforce Form S-8, October 2026). The press release, dated 1 June 2026, carries an editor's note confirming the same completion date (Salesforce, October 2026). The figure comes from the Form 10-Q filed on 27 August 2026, before completion, so the final price can differ: "approximately $1.5 billion in cash, net of the value of shares currently owned by Salesforce, and subject to customary purchase price adjustments" (Salesforce Form 10-Q, October 2026).
| Date | Event | Document |
|---|---|---|
| 29 May 2026 | Merger agreement signed with Contentful Global, Inc. | Salesforce Form S-8 |
| 1 June 2026 | Deal announced by both companies | Salesforce release, Contentful post |
| 27 August 2026 | Price stated: about $1.5 billion in cash | Salesforce Form 10-Q |
| 1 September 2026 | Purchase completed, Salesforce says | Salesforce Form S-8, release note |
What have Salesforce and Contentful said they will do with Contentful?
Salesforce and Contentful have said Contentful will be built into Salesforce's products and keep serving its customers, and nothing about price or terms. Their own words:
- Salesforce. Contentful "will be integrated natively across Customer 360" while "preserving the composability that developers and digital teams expect" (Salesforce, October 2026). The same release says the deal "will enhance Salesforce's Headless 360" and pairs Contentful's APIs (application programming interfaces) with Data 360 and Agentforce, Salesforce's AI agent product.
- Contentful. Its founder wrote that "Contentful customers remain our top priority" and that Contentful is "fully committed to delivering the same level of innovation, flexibility, and enterprise-grade support" (Contentful, October 2026).
Neither document states pricing, contract terms or whether Contentful stays on sale to companies that don't use Salesforce, checked 24 October 2026, so neither tells you what your next term costs or contains.
Does the Salesforce acquisition matter if you don't use Salesforce?
The Salesforce acquisition matters to Contentful customers who don't use Salesforce in four places a pricing page never shows. Each is a question to ask Contentful, not a prediction:
- Roadmap priority. Salesforce names Customer 360, Agentforce, Data 360 and Headless 360 as where Contentful fits (Salesforce, October 2026). Ask which Contentful features those plans touch.
- The contracting party. Contentful's online terms let either party assign the agreement without consent "to a successor to all or substantially all of its assets or business" or to an affiliate (Contentful Terms of Service, October 2026). Ask who signs your next order form.
- Your terms and fees. The same terms say "Contentful may revise this Agreement from time to time for any reason and at its sole discretion", and fees follow a schedule "as may be updated from time to time" (Contentful Terms of Service, October 2026). An order form can override both, so ask what yours fixes.
- Data processing. The sub-processor list lets Contentful affiliates act as sub-processors (Contentful, October 2026). Ask whether any Salesforce company will process your content.
What should you ask Contentful before your next renewal?
Ask Contentful five questions in writing before you renew, because no public Contentful page answers them as of 24 October 2026. Your order form is where any protection lives. Deploi doesn't give legal advice: have your contract owner confirm how the terms apply to your order.
| Question | Why it matters | Where the answer lives |
|---|---|---|
| Is the renewal price capped? | Neither company has published pricing terms | Renewal quote and order form |
| Which company signs the order form? | The terms allow assignment to a successor | Order form |
| Will a Salesforce company process our data? | The list of 8 October 2026 names none | Sub-processor page and data processing agreement |
| Do the products we use stay on sale? | Salesforce has named its own integration targets | Written answer from the account team |
| What exit rights do we keep? | The EU Data Act Addendum caps switching notice at two months, where it applies | Addendum and order form |
If you're leaving, the Contentful exit checklist lists the export gaps, and whether Sanity can change its pricing covers the same question for the platform you'd move to.
Deploi’s point of view
- Where we disagree
- Two common takes on the deal are wrong. The first says Salesforce will raise Contentful prices or push customers into its own products. Neither company has said anything about pricing, contracts or standalone sales, so that is a guess presented as news. The second says nothing changes if you don't use Salesforce. Roadmap priority, the contracting party and the sub-processor list can all move without a single price changing, and none of them shows on a pricing page.
- What this adds
- The root weighs renewing, renegotiating or leaving Contentful. This page adds the dated record that decision rests on: the signing and completion dates from Salesforce's own filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the announcement date from its release, the price in Salesforce's quarterly filing, the version date of each Contentful page a renewal depends on, and the questions to put to Contentful in writing.
- What we refuse to promise
- We won't predict Salesforce's pricing, its roadmap for Contentful or whether Contentful stays on sale to companies that don't use Salesforce. Neither company has published any of that. Our view of Contentful rests on Salesforce's and Contentful's own documents.
- What we'd tell you to do first
- Save today's versions of Contentful's pricing page, usage limits, terms and sub-processor list, then send the renewal questions to your account team in writing before the renewal call. The saved copies show you later exactly what moved.
When this answer changes
- Contentful publishes a new usage limits version or changes the $300 a month it lists for Lite
- Contentful revises its online Terms of Service (effective 15 September 2025) or its EU Data Act Addendum (effective 12 September 2025)
- A Salesforce entity appears on Contentful's sub-processor list
- Salesforce or Contentful states pricing, contract or standalone-availability terms for Contentful
- Contentful's plans move onto Salesforce's own pricing or order process
- A later Salesforce filing reports the final Contentful purchase price
