How many apps are in the Shopify App Store?
Shopify's Form 10-K states more than 21,000 apps as of December 31, 2025, and the App Store categories page says over 16,000 in October 2026. Updated October 18, 2026.
By Martin DejnickiUpdated Data through October 2026
Short answer
Shopify states two App Store sizes: more than 21,000 apps as of December 31, 2025, in its Form 10-K filed February 11, 2026, and over 16,000 apps on the App Store categories page captured October 18, 2026. Both are lower bounds in Shopify's own words, the App Store page gives no as-of date, and Shopify does not explain the difference.
Shopify says its App Store held more than 21,000 apps at the end of 2025, up from about 1,400 in its fiscal 2016 filing
Apps available in the Shopify App Store as Shopify's annual filings state them, fiscal 2016 to 2025; approximate to fiscal 2020, lower bounds from fiscal 2021
- Fiscal 2016 to 2020 figures are approximate counts from annual information forms filed each February; those forms give no as-of date.
- Fiscal 2021 to 2023 are stated as more than 8,000, more than 10,000 and more than 13,000 in the annual information forms, the fiscal 2022 and 2023 forms as of December 31; fiscal 2024 and 2025 are lower bounds from Forms 10-K, stated as more than 16,000 and more than 21,000 apps as of December 31.

What this means for your decision
- Quoting the size of the App Store? Use Shopify's words with the source and date: more than 21,000 apps as of December 31, 2025, from its Form 10-K, or over 16,000 on the App Store categories page captured October 18, 2026. Both are lower bounds, and neither is out of date.
- Explaining why the two differ? Shopify does not say. The App Store page gives no as-of date, so do not present its figure as a fall from the 10-K figure.
- Judging how fast the ecosystem grows? Shopify's stated count rose from approximately 1,400 for fiscal 2016 to more than 21,000 for fiscal 2025. Steps between approximate figures and lower bounds are not exact growth, so use them for direction, not as a rate of new apps.
- Treating the app ecosystem as a stable base for a stack? The count says nothing about how many apps are maintained, removed or changed, so it cannot tell you how stable a stack will be. Review the apps you depend on on a schedule; the changelog notices page shows how often Shopify posts changes that apps must absorb.

How many apps did Shopify say its App Store had at the end of 2025?
Shopify's Form 10-K filed February 11, 2026 says the App Store had more than 21,000 apps as of December 31, 2025, up from more than 16,000 a year earlier. Shopify's annual information form for fiscal 2016 put the count at approximately 1,400. Every figure is a count Shopify states in its filings, with the qualifier Shopify prints.
The qualifier matters. Shopify wrote "approximately" for fiscal 2016 to 2020 and "more than" from fiscal 2021, so the later figures are lower bounds, not exact counts.
The annual information forms for fiscal 2016 to 2021 give no as-of date. Those for fiscal 2022 and 2023, like the Forms 10-K, state December 31.
What does the App Store page say today?
The Shopify App Store categories page, captured October 18, 2026, says "With over 16,000 apps", while Shopify's Form 10-K filed February 11, 2026 says more than 21,000 apps as of December 31, 2025. Both are Shopify statements and both are lower bounds. The App Store page gives no as-of date, and Shopify does not say how the two counts differ.
Deploi reports both figures as Shopify words them and treats neither as out of date. The difference may reflect timing or how each counts, and Shopify does not say which.
Which App Store number should be quoted?
Quote the figure with its source, qualifier and date: more than 21,000 apps as of December 31, 2025, from Shopify's Form 10-K, or over 16,000 apps from the App Store categories page on October 18, 2026. Neither is an exact count, because "more than" and "over" mark lower bounds, and the two carry different dates.
Keep the words Shopify uses. "Over 16,000" and "more than 21,000" are each a floor, so writing either as an exact count changes the claim.
If a citation needs one dated figure, the Form 10-K figure is the one that states an as-of date.
How has Shopify stated the App Store count over time?
Shopify's annual information forms state the App Store count as approximately 1,400 for fiscal 2016, 2,300 for 2017, 2,500 for 2018, 3,700 for 2019 and 6,000 for 2020, then more than 8,000, 10,000 and 13,000 for fiscal 2021 to 2023. Forms 10-K state more than 16,000 for fiscal 2024 and more than 21,000 for fiscal 2025.
The step between stated figures was 2,000 into fiscal 2021 and 2022, 3,000 into fiscal 2023 and 2024, and 5,000 into fiscal 2025, computed by Deploi.
The figures from fiscal 2021 are lower bounds and the earlier ones are approximate, so the steps are not exact growth in apps.
Which App Store numbers circulate but do not hold up?
A count of URLs in the Shopify App Store's apps sitemap is not an app count, because the sitemap includes URLs that are not live listings, and Deploi does not publish it. Shopify's own statements are more than 21,000 apps as of December 31, 2025 (Form 10-K) and over 16,000 on the App Store page captured October 18, 2026.
Third-party counts of App Store apps use their own methods, and they are not in this dataset. Treat them as claims, check what they measure, and compare them only with a Shopify statement of the same date.

Methodology
Reading the chart: Shopify says its App Store held more than 21,000 apps at the end of 2025, up from about 1,400 in its fiscal 2016 filing
Caveats: Shopify App Store app count as Shopify states it, fiscal 2016 to 2025 and October 2026
- Every figure is a count Shopify states. Read it with its qualifier: approximately, more than or over. The last two are lower bounds, not exact counts.
- The annual information forms for FY2022 and FY2023 and the Forms 10-K state December 31 as the as-of date. The earlier annual information forms give none, and the App Store page states no as-of date.
- The App Store page figure (over 16,000, captured October 18, 2026) and the Form 10-K figure (more than 21,000 as of December 31, 2025) are both Shopify statements. Shopify does not say why they differ, and Deploi treats neither as out of date.
- A count of URLs in the App Store's apps sitemap is not an app count, because the sitemap includes URLs that are not live listings. It is not published as a value.
- Steps between figures on the story page are differences between stated figures, computed by Deploi, and are not exact growth in apps.

Questions
How many apps does the Shopify App Store have?
Shopify's Form 10-K for 2025, filed February 11, 2026, states more than 21,000 apps as of December 31, 2025. The App Store categories page, captured October 18, 2026, says over 16,000. Both are lower bounds, and Shopify gives no exact count.
Why does the App Store page say over 16,000 apps and the 10-K more than 21,000?
Shopify does not say. The Form 10-K states more than 21,000 apps as of December 31, 2025, while the App Store categories page says over 16,000 on October 18, 2026 and gives no as-of date. The gap may reflect timing or counting method.
How many apps did the Shopify App Store have in 2016?
Shopify's annual information form for fiscal 2016, filed February 15, 2017, states approximately 1,400 apps. The form gives no as-of date. The count was approximately 2,300 for fiscal 2017 and approximately 3,700 for fiscal 2019.
Does "over 16,000 apps" mean exactly 16,000?
No. Shopify's phrases "over" and "more than" mark lower bounds. The App Store page says over 16,000 apps and the Form 10-K says more than 21,000 as of December 31, 2025. Neither gives the exact number.
How often does Shopify state the App Store count?
In the annual filings this dataset uses, once a year: the annual information form each February for fiscal 2016 to 2023, and the Form 10-K filed February 11 for fiscal 2024 and 2025. The App Store page states its own figure at the time it is read.
