What is the real gap between Advanced's default reporting and Plus's ShopifyQL/analytics tooling for a $10M-$30M brand?
Short answer
Shopify Plus adds two reporting gains over Advanced for a $10M to $30M brand: multi-store reporting and higher app query limits (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Plus apps get 1,000 query points a second, against Advanced's 200 (Shopify developer docs, October 2026). ShopifyQL is no reason to upgrade, because it is on both plans (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).

Deploi’s call
The reporting gap between Shopify Advanced and Plus is narrow and misdescribed: it is multi-store reporting, plus application programming interface (API) headroom for syncs that run on single queries. Buy Plus for those if you need them. Do not buy it for ShopifyQL, because Advanced already has ShopifyQL.
BuyMove to Plus for reporting when
- You run, or will soon run, two or more stores and want one roll-up inside Shopify: organization analytics are Plus-only (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- A real-time enterprise resource planning (ERP) or inventory sync keeps hitting Advanced's 200 points a second on single queries; Plus gives each app 1,000 (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).
- Shopify Audiences ad lists matter to a large paid-media budget, and your store is in the US or Canada on Shopify Payments (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
CustomizeStay on Advanced while
- The ask is a report, an exploration or a ShopifyQL query: all of them run on Advanced (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- Your warehouse extract runs on bulk operations, which no plan rate limits (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).
- The ask is attribution: neither plan reconciles Shopify's sales with what ad platforms claim.
- You sell from a single store.

Is ShopifyQL a Shopify Plus feature?
No: ShopifyQL, Shopify's query language for reports, works on Shopify Advanced as well as Plus, and so do custom reports. Shopify states that "Creating a new data exploration is available to merchants on all Shopify plans" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Its reports overview says "You can save your changes as custom data explorations, regardless of your Shopify subscription" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). The same page describes the editor: "The ShopifyQL query editor represents the report as a database query using ShopifyQL, or Shopify Query Language." Shopify's pricing page lists "200+ real-time reports, plus custom analytics" on all four plans (shopify.com/pricing, October 2026).
The belief has a history. ShopifyQL reached merchants through the ShopifyQL Notebooks app, which Shopify's changelog announced in November 2022 as "available for all Plus merchants" (Shopify Changelog, November 2022). So a Plus business case built on ShopifyQL access has a hole in it. The Advanced vs. Plus decision at $1M a month turns on fees, card rates and checkout instead.
Which reporting gaps between Advanced and Plus matter at $10M to $30M?
At $10M to $30M, two reporting gaps between Shopify Advanced and Plus can matter: multi-store reporting and the application programming interface (API) rate limit. The first matters from your second store, the second only for frequent single-query syncs. Shopify Audiences also differs, but it builds ad lists, not reports. The rest of the analytics stack is the same on both plans, so the plan question shrinks to three rows.
| Reporting or data line | Advanced | Plus | Bites at $10M to $30M? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reports, custom explorations and the ShopifyQL editor | Included | Included | No |
| Marketing attribution models | 5 models | The same 5 models | No |
| Multi-store reporting across an organization | Not available | Included | Yes, from your second store |
| GraphQL Admin API rate limit per app | 200 points a second | 1,000 points a second | Only for frequent single-query syncs |
| Bulk-operation data extracts | Not rate limited | Not rate limited | No |
| Shopify Audiences ad-targeting lists | Not available | US and Canadian stores on Shopify Payments | Only if paid media is a large budget line |
Does Advanced's API rate limit slow a nightly data warehouse extract?
Shopify Advanced's application programming interface (API) rate limit does not slow a nightly extract that runs on bulk operations, Shopify's method for large data pulls. Shopify's GraphQL Admin API gives each app 200 points a second of query cost on Advanced and 1,000 on Plus (Shopify developer docs, October 2026). Shopify's docs add that bulk operations "don't have the max cost limits or rate limits that single queries have," so the plan's limit never touches them. From API version 2026-01, each app can run up to five bulk queries per shop at once (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).
So the five-fold gap (Deploi arithmetic) bites on syncs that run single queries all day, such as a real-time enterprise resource planning (ERP) or inventory sync. Plus stores can also ask for more: "You can request increased API rate limits by contacting support" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
Is multi-store reporting a reason to move from Advanced to Plus?
Yes, once you run more than one store: multi-store reporting is the one Shopify reporting feature that Shopify Advanced cannot get. Shopify says organization analytics "are available only for stores and organizations on the Shopify Plus plan" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Shopify's changelog adds that multi-store reporting "is available for Plus organizations with multiple stores" (Shopify Changelog, September 2025). Plus includes up to 9 free expansion stores (shopify.com/pricing, October 2026), and Plus prices expansion stores at the contract level.
So on Advanced, each store reports on its own, and a cross-store view means exports or a warehouse. A single-store brand at $20M gains nothing here. A brand about to open a second market gets the roll-up with a decision it was making anyway. Deploi's cross-store analytics record scores the native view WAIT on Plus: open organization analytics before you buy a reporting app.
Does Plus close the gap between Shopify revenue and ad-platform revenue?
No: Shopify Advanced and Plus get the same five attribution models, and neither plan reconciles Shopify's sales with what ad platforms claim. Shopify lists "5 attribution models available for you to use with marketing activity data", with last non-direct click as the default (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). The same page explains gaps with outside tools "because of the differences in how Shopify and third parties attribute interactions and sales, and also because of delays in syncing data."
Plus does add Shopify Audiences, which builds ad-targeting lists for eligible US and Canadian stores on Shopify Payments (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). That is targeting, not attribution. So closing the revenue gap is a tracking and data-layer project with its own budget line, and what server-side tracking cannot fix sets its limits.
When is reporting the wrong reason to upgrade to Plus?
Reporting is the wrong reason to upgrade to Shopify Plus when Shopify Advanced already builds the report, or when the problem sits outside Shopify.
Deploi’s point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.
- What we’ve seen
- Nearly every "we need better analytics" brief we scope at this size resolves into one of three things: a report that already builds natively, an extract-performance problem, or an attribution problem. Only the second can be a plan question, and only when the extract runs on single queries rather than bulk operations.
- Where we disagree
- Plus comparison content still lists ShopifyQL and custom reports in the Plus column, even though Shopify's pricing page lists custom analytics on every plan. That is not a small error. It sends buyers to the wrong line item and it lets a real constraint, API throughput, go unexamined.
- What this page adds
- that ShopifyQL and custom explorations are on every plan, that multi-store reporting is the one Plus-only reporting feature, and that Advanced's API limit of 200 points a second against Plus's 1,000 throttles single-query syncs but not bulk-operation extracts.
When this answer changes
- Shopify opens organization analytics or multi-store reporting to Advanced.
- Shopify changes the GraphQL Admin API rate limits for Advanced or Plus, or puts bulk operations under a plan limit.
- Shopify ties explorations, the ShopifyQL editor or any default report to a plan.
- Shopify Audiences opens to Advanced, or to stores outside the US and Canada.
- Your brand adds a second store or a separately run market.

This follows from At $1M+/month in online sales, is staying on Advanced actually leaving money on the table by not upgrading to Plus?
- What does server-side tracking NOT fix, even after a full and correct implementation?
Server-side tracking, even correctly implemented, does not fix declined consent, 48-hour deduplication windows or ad platforms' attribution models.
- Does a Shopify Plus contract's '9 expansion stores' allowance count toward the same variable-platform-fee revenue calculation as the main store, or are expansion stores priced independently of GMV?
Shopify Plus prices the contract, not each expansion store, because “Your main store and 9 expansion stores are included as part of your monthly platform fee.” Stores beyond ten cost “$300 USD per month per store, or a revenue share across all stores” (shopify.com/plus/pricing, October 2026).
