What services does Deploi actually offer for a Shopify Plus project? Is ecommerce build the only one, or is there more?

Deploi is a web development agency offering six services: Progressive Web Applications, Single Page Applications, Ecommerce, Headless CMS, API Development, and AI & Machine Learning (verified on deploi.ca, September 2026). Shopify Plus work sits inside Ecommerce and gets scoped as separate storefront engagements: metafield-driven PDP content, accessibility remediation, collection merchandising, and guided selling.

Strategic digital, SEO and analytics consulting exist as lines inside the monthly plans rather than as standalone service pages (per deploi.ca/pricing, September 2026). That is a real distinction worth knowing before you ask for a proposal: consulting comes bundled with a retainer, not sold as a project.

How a Shopify Plus engagement is actually shaped

"Ecommerce build" is the label on the service page. It is not how the work gets scoped, and a mid-market team asking whether there is more than a build is asking the right question.

Storefront-layer product engineering is the accurate description. Four kinds of engagement recur, and they are quoted separately because they have different owners on your side and different acceptance criteria:

  1. Metafield-driven PDP content. Structured product content in metafields and metaobjects, rendered by the theme, so merchandising owns the content instead of filing theme tickets.
  2. Accessibility remediation. Code-level fixes to the templates that carry traffic and revenue, with regression gating so a redesign does not undo them.
  3. Collection merchandising and product rails. Collection logic, sorting, and the recommendation and rail surfaces that sit on top of it.
  4. Guided selling. Quizzes and product finders, the heaviest of the four by a wide margin.

Structured data for AI answers is a fifth, newer lane, and it travels with whichever of the above touches the templates.

Working model and cost

The process is the same five steps on every service page: Discovery & Planning, Design & Prototyping, Development, Testing & Optimization, Deployment & Support. The AI and machine learning variant swaps the middle for Data Preparation, Model Development and Testing & Validation (verified on deploi.ca, September 2026).

What Deploi does not sell

  • A Shopify theme store product. The work is custom against your theme and your data model.
  • Media buying, creative production, or a retainer that includes paid social. Not services here.
  • A standalone SEO or AI-search service page. SEO and analytics consulting arrive attached to the Growth plan and above.
  • Volume staffing. "Each year, we work with just a handful of clients on large, ambitious projects" (per deploi.ca/about, September 2026). If you need eight developers next month, this is the wrong shape of partner.

Our people have helped many companies win in the digital age, including Walmart, Canada Post, Munich Re, IBM, TD Securities, Rogers, Indigo and TMX. That is team experience, and it is deliberately not a statement about who the agency currently holds as an account.

The Deploi point of view

Our own position, from building on Shopify. Separate from the facts above.

  • Our take: Our Plus work is storefront-layer product engineering rather than a single build service. Asking for "a Shopify build" tends to produce a quote for a theme; asking for the four engagements above produces a quote you can actually hold someone to.
  • What we’ve seen: The requests that arrive as one project are usually four, and they have different internal owners. Merchandising owns PDP content, legal or ops owns accessibility, growth owns merchandising and guided selling. Scoping them as one line item is what makes a mid-market build slip.
  • Times we’ve shipped this: 18 builds delivered.
  • What it takes: roughly 72 hours for accessibility remediation, about 150 hours for collection merchandising and product rails, about 96 hours for structured data built for AI answers, and around 350 hours for guided selling (directional Deploi estimates from a small sample of engagements, not measured averages).
  • Where we disagree: The agency market sells Shopify as a platform practice, which flattens everything into "build" and "support." We think the honest unit is the storefront capability, and the gap between 72 hours and 350 hours across the four above is exactly why one blended day rate and one project label mislead both sides.
