How does Wix Stores' native subscription/membership feature migrate to Shopify, given Shopify's subscriptions are app-based, not native by default?
Short answer
Wix subscribers are re-enrolled on Shopify, not migrated, because neither Wix nor Shopify documents a way to carry a recurring plan across. Wix Pricing Plans makes a merchant "cancel all active recurring plans" before switching providers (Wix Help Center, October 2026). Shopify's Wix migration guide never mentions subscriptions, memberships or Pricing Plans (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).

Deploi’s call
Re-enroll Wix subscribers on Shopify rather than migrating them, and run it as a campaign with a hard deadline and an offer attached. Framing it as a migration sets an expectation of zero loss that the platform cannot deliver.
BuyRe-enroll onto Shopify Subscriptions when
- The Wix program sells products on weekly, monthly or yearly cadences, which Shopify's free app renews (Shopify App Store, October 2026).
- No plan needs bundles or draft orders, the native app's documented hard stops (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- Subscribers pay by card, since Shopify says local, manual or non-credit-card methods "might not be available for subscriptions" (Shopify's considerations page, October 2026).
- The program is under roughly 2,000 subscribers on simple plans, where Deploi's subscription migration record scores the free native app BUY (October 2026).
CustomizeRebuild the membership layer when
- Pricing Plans sell access or perks rather than shipments, so the fee and the entitlements are two builds.
- Member pricing, early access or gated content define the program, where Deploi's memberships record scores native billing with custom entitlements CUSTOMIZE (October 2026).
- The program must relaunch this quarter, where the same record prefers an app pilot.

Why can't a Wix subscription move to Shopify as a contract?
A Wix subscription can't move to Shopify as a contract, because neither Wix nor Shopify documents a way to carry the plan or its payment method across. Wix takes recurring payments in apps such as Wix Stores, Wix Video, Pricing Plans and Recurring Invoices (Wix Help Center, October 2026). Wix's Pricing Plans rule shows how tightly a plan is bound to its payment provider. To switch providers, "you must first cancel all active recurring plans, switch providers, and then ask your clients to repurchase the same plan" (Wix's recurring plans guide, October 2026). A Pricing Plans subscription that can't survive a provider change inside Wix won't survive leaving Wix. On the Shopify side, a contract import needs a payment method already in the Shopify admin (Shopify's contract import troubleshooting page, October 2026). So the payment-method steps of migrating an active subscription program during a replatform have nothing to work on here.
What does Shopify's Wix migration guide move?
Shopify's Wix migration guide moves products, customers, order history and reviews, each by its own route, and lists no subscription data.
| Wix data | Route in Shopify's guide |
|---|---|
| Products | Comma-separated values (CSV) import, or Shopify's Store Migration app in early access |
| Customers | CSV import, or the Store Migration app |
| Order history | Third-party migration apps |
| Reviews | A third-party app, imported manually; Shopify says you can't export or migrate them |
| Subscriptions, memberships, Pricing Plans | Not in the guide |
So subscribers arrive only as customer records, which is enough to run a re-enrollment. Tag the subscriber cohort at import, so re-enrollment can be measured apart from general traffic. The Store Migration app "is in early access, and is available only for certain stores and on desktop devices" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
What does re-enrollment on Shopify involve?
Re-enrollment on Shopify involves five steps, and the offer comes first, because subscribers re-enroll into whatever the product page offers them.
- Build the offer on Shopify. Choose the app subscribers re-enroll into first: Shopify's free Subscriptions app, or Recharge, Skio and Loop. Put its subscribe option live on the product page before any invitation goes out.
- Match each cadence. Wix Stores can repeat a subscription every set number of days (Wix Stores guide, October 2026), while Shopify Subscriptions renews by week, month or year (Shopify's contract import guide, October 2026). A 14-day Wix plan becomes every 2 weeks; a 10-day plan has no native match.
- Cut the storefront over while Wix keeps billing. Wix keeps creating subscription orders until a subscription is canceled (Wix Stores subscriptions guide, October 2026).
- Invite subscribers to re-enroll, with a reason to. A locked price, a bonus cycle or a skip-anytime promise converts the ask.
- Cancel each Wix subscription as its subscriber re-enrolls, and the rest on a published date after the re-enrollment window closes. Billing a subscriber twice across two platforms is worse than losing them.
Where do Wix memberships go on Shopify?
Wix memberships go to Shopify as two pieces, a recurring fee and the perks it grants, so each is rebuilt on its own. Wix lets both membership plans and packages run as recurring plans (Wix's recurring plans guide, October 2026). On Shopify the fee can run as a subscription, while the perks, such as member pricing, early access and gated content, are rebuilt. Deploi's memberships record scores that CUSTOMIZE: native billing with custom entitlements, and an app pilot only when the program must launch this quarter (October 2026). The features Shopify's native app leaves out decide whether the fee fits Shopify Subscriptions or needs a paid app. Budget the perks as a build and the fee as a re-enrollment, on the same deadline.
When should the Wix plans keep billing?
The Wix plans should keep billing until the Shopify offer is live and each subscriber has re-enrolled or the re-enrollment window has closed, because cancelling first turns a re-enrollment into churn.
Deploi’s point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.
- Where we disagree
- Migration vendors list Wix among supported sources. They are supported for products, customers and orders. Presenting that as coverage of a subscription program is the kind of gap that only surfaces after the contract is signed.
- Our judgment on the product page
- In our judgment the subscribe option on the product page decides more re-enrollments than the invitation email does, so ship the selector before the invitation goes out.
- What this page adds
- that the Wix branch has no contract to carry at all: Wix's own rule cancels recurring plans on any provider change and Shopify's Wix guide never mentions subscriptions, so the replatform's payment-method steps have nothing to work on and re-enrollment replaces them.
Decision records behind this answer
When this answer changes
- Wix documents an export of subscribers' plans or payment details, or changes its rule that switching providers means cancelling recurring plans.
- Shopify's Wix migration guide or Store Migration app adds subscriptions, memberships or Pricing Plans.
- Shopify Subscriptions adds day-based cadences, bundles or draft-order support.
- Shopify's Store Migration app leaves early access for Wix stores.

This follows from How do I migrate an active subscription program (Recharge, Skio, or a legacy platform's native subscriptions) during a full platform replatform?
- Can Shopify actually do subscriptions natively now, or do I still need Recharge/Skio/Loop?
Shopify Subscriptions, Shopify's own app, runs replenishment natively for $0: weekly, monthly or yearly renewals with discounts that customers pause, skip or cancel (Shopify App Store, October 2026).
- What subscription features does Shopify's native Subscriptions app NOT cover that force an upgrade to Recharge or Skio?
Shopify Subscriptions forces an upgrade only for bundles, which "aren't compatible" with it (Shopify Help Center, October 2026), and for retention tools such as cancellation saves (Shopify Help Center) and prepaid or gift subscriptions (Shopify Help Center).
