Short answer
HTTP Archive detected Magento 1 on 903 mobile origins in its September 2026 crawl, against 20,778 on Magento 2 and 10,907 with no detected version, out of 32,588 Magento origins in total. The total is 43% below the January 2023 peak of 57,205, computed by Deploi. Some of the 10,907 may run Magento 1, so 903 is a lower bound, and origins are websites, not stores.
Magento sites have fallen every year since 2023, from 57,205 to 32,588 in September 2026
Mobile origins detected as Magento, worldwide, all rank tiers, HTTP Archive January crawls of 2020 to 2026, and September 2026
- Counts are mobile origins, websites with enough Chrome traffic to appear in the Chrome UX Report, on which HTTP Archive detects Magento; they are not counts of stores.
- The line uses the January crawl of each year and September 2026; HTTP Archive's monthly counts in between rise and fall.
- The September 2026 count is 43% below the January 2023 peak; computed by Deploi.
- Desktop counts, in the data table, peak earlier: 53,853 in January 2021, against 51,561 in January 2023 and 27,544 in September 2026.

What this means for your decision
- Deciding how urgently to leave Magento 1? HTTP Archive detected Magento 1 on 903 mobile origins in September 2026, and 10,907 more Magento origins show no version, so 903 is a floor. The count shows how few sites remain on the version, not whether your store is exposed; the dataset holds no support dates, so check your version's status with its publisher.
- Judging whether Magento is still a safe base? Magento's detected mobile origins are 43% below the January 2023 peak of 57,205, computed by Deploi, and fell in every crawl shown since. Read it as a shrinking pool of detected sites; it does not show where the leaving sites went.
- Running Magento 2? HTTP Archive detects Magento 2 on 20,778 mobile origins. A major version says nothing about the release a store runs or its support date, so check the release itself.
- Quoting these counts? They are HTTP Archive mobile origins for September 2026, websites rather than stores. Desktop is a separate count, with Magento 1 on 457 origins.
- Planning a migration off Magento? Deploi builds ecommerce sites. Contact Deploi before you commit to a plan.
How fast is Magento shrinking?
Magento's detected mobile origins fell from 57,205 in January 2023 to 32,588 in September 2026, 43% lower, computed by Deploi from HTTP Archive's adoption data. The count fell in every crawl shown after January 2023: 50,535 in 2024, 44,590 in 2025 and 36,949 in 2026. Before that it rose from 44,880 in January 2020 to 53,412 in 2021 and dipped to 47,175 in 2022.
The September 2026 count is also below the January 2020 count of 44,880. The chart shows the January crawl of each year from 2020 to 2026 and September 2026. HTTP Archive crawls monthly, and the counts in between rise and fall, so a fall between two January crawls is not a fall in every month.
Counts are mobile origins, websites with enough Chrome traffic to appear in the Chrome UX Report. They are not counts of stores.
How many sites still run Magento 1?
HTTP Archive detected Magento 1 on 903 mobile origins in its September 2026 crawl, 2.8% of the 32,588 Magento origins, computed by Deploi. Magento 2 was detected on 20,778 origins and 10,907 Magento origins show no version. The Magento 1 count is a lower bound, because some of the 10,907 may run Magento 1.
On desktop, HTTP Archive detects Magento 1 on 457 origins and Magento 2 on 19,316, out of 27,544 Magento desktop origins in September 2026.
Versions are as HTTP Archive detects them. The detected version is a signal from the page, not a record of what the store owner runs.
903 Magento sites still show Magento 1, against 20,778 on Magento 2; 10,907 show no version
Mobile origins detected as Magento 1 or Magento 2, worldwide, all rank tiers, HTTP Archive crawl of September 2026; origins with no detected version are not drawn
- Versions are as HTTP Archive detects them; 10,907 Magento origins have no detected version and are not drawn, and some of them may run Magento 1, so 903 counts only origins detected as Magento 1.
- No detected version is all Magento origins minus those detected as version 1 or version 2, computed by Deploi.
- On desktop, HTTP Archive detects Magento 1 on 457 origins.
- Counts are mobile origins with enough Chrome traffic to appear in the Chrome UX Report; they are not counts of stores.

How many Magento sites show no version?
10,907 Magento mobile origins show no detected version in HTTP Archive's September 2026 crawl, computed by Deploi as 32,588 in total minus 903 on Magento 1 and 20,778 on Magento 2. That is 33.5% of the total. Some of them may run Magento 1, so the 903 count may understate the true number.
HTTP Archive does not say why a version is missing on these origins. The dataset treats them as a separate group rather than assigning them to either version.
Do desktop counts show the same decline?
Magento's desktop origins fell from 51,561 in January 2023 to 27,544 in September 2026, 46.6% lower, computed by Deploi from HTTP Archive's adoption data. Desktop peaked earlier, at 53,853 in January 2021, while mobile peaked at 57,205 in January 2023. Desktop and mobile origins are separate counts from the same crawls.
The desktop series is 43,455 in January 2020, 53,853 in January 2021, 44,949 in January 2022, 51,561 in January 2023, then 46,672, 41,593 and 34,147 in January 2024 to 2026. The full series is in the data table.
What do these counts not tell the owner of a Magento store?
HTTP Archive's counts of 903 Magento 1 and 20,778 Magento 2 mobile origins in September 2026 say how many sites show each version, not which versions are still supported. Support dates are set by the software's publisher and this dataset holds none, so an owner should check the support date for the version the store runs.
The counts say nothing about the cost or timing of a migration, and they do not show where leaving sites go. The decline in Magento origins is a count of fewer detected sites, not a measure of where those sites moved.

Methodology
Reading the chart: Magento sites have fallen every year since 2023, from 57,205 to 32,588 in September 2026
Reading the chart: 903 Magento sites still show Magento 1, against 20,778 on Magento 2; 10,907 show no version
Caveats: Magento origins by detected version and over time, HTTP Archive, January 2020 to September 2026
- Counts are origins, websites with enough Chrome traffic to appear in the Chrome UX Report, on which HTTP Archive detects Magento. They are not counts of stores.
- Versions are as HTTP Archive detects them. Origins with no detected version are all Magento origins minus those detected as version 1 or version 2, computed by Deploi, and some of them may run Magento 1.
- The trend holds the January crawl of each year from 2020 to 2026 and the September 2026 crawl. HTTP Archive crawls monthly, and the monthly counts in between rise and fall, so a fall between two January crawls is not a fall in every month.
- Percentages on the story page, such as the fall from the January 2023 peak, are the later count divided by the earlier count, minus 1, and shares of the total are a count divided by the September 2026 total; both are computed by Deploi.
- Support dates for Magento releases are not in this dataset.

Questions
How many sites still run Magento 1?
HTTP Archive detected Magento 1 on 903 mobile origins and 457 desktop origins in its September 2026 crawl. Another 10,907 Magento mobile origins show no detected version, and some may run Magento 1, so 903 is a lower bound.
Is Magento declining?
Yes on HTTP Archive's counts. Magento was detected on 32,588 mobile origins in September 2026, 43% below the January 2023 peak of 57,205, computed by Deploi. The count fell in every crawl shown after January 2023.
How many websites run Magento 2?
HTTP Archive detected Magento 2 on 20,778 mobile origins and 19,316 desktop origins in its September 2026 crawl. That is 63.8% of the 32,588 Magento mobile origins, computed by Deploi. The counts are websites, not stores.
Why do 10,907 Magento sites show no version?
HTTP Archive detected Magento on 10,907 mobile origins without detecting a version in September 2026. Its data does not say why. Deploi computes the figure as 32,588 Magento origins minus 903 on Magento 1 and 20,778 on Magento 2.
Does this count stores or websites?
Websites. HTTP Archive counts mobile origins with enough Chrome traffic to appear in the Chrome UX Report, on which it detects Magento. One merchant can run several origins, and low-traffic sites are not counted at all.
