Do Wix and Squarespace stores stay small compared with Shopify stores?
10.6% of Shopify sites rank in the top 1 million by Chrome traffic, against 0.4% of Wix eCommerce and 0.5% of Squarespace Commerce sites, per HTTP Archive. Updated October 18, 2026.
By Martin DejnickiUpdated Data through September 2026
Short answer
Of Shopify's 452,270 mobile origins in HTTP Archive's September 2026 crawl, 10.6% rank in the top 1 million sites by Chrome traffic, against 0.4% of Wix eCommerce's 123,133 and 0.5% of Squarespace Commerce's 92,762. Rank measures traffic, not revenue, so it shows where high-traffic sites run, not whether a platform limits growth.

What this means for your decision
- Deciding whether your store has outgrown Wix or Squarespace? The data sets no threshold. It shows that 0.4% of Wix eCommerce and 0.5% of Squarespace Commerce origins rank in the top 1 million by Chrome traffic in HTTP Archive's September 2026 crawl, against 10.6% for Shopify; judge a move on your features, costs and growth plan.
- Reading rank as business size? Rank reflects Chrome traffic, not revenue or orders, and the data holds no sales for any platform, so a top 1 million site may sell little and a strong seller may rank lower.
- Concluding that a builder holds stores back? The data shows where high-traffic sites run, not why; growing stores may leave the builders, or the builders may simply draw more small stores.
- Comparing the top 100,000? HTTP Archive counts 1,830 Shopify origins there against 11 for Wix eCommerce and 10 for Squarespace Commerce. Counts that small move with a single site, and the empty top 10,000 cell for Squarespace Commerce is not a zero.

How many reach the top 100,000 sites?
HTTP Archive detected 1,830 Shopify origins in the top 100,000 sites in September 2026, against 11 for Wix eCommerce and 10 for Squarespace Commerce. In the top 10,000 the dataset holds 42 Shopify origins and 1 for Wix eCommerce, and no value for Squarespace Commerce.
A missing value is not a zero. The numbers are small for the two builders, so a single site changes them. The top 100,000 is a traffic tier, not a size of business.
Does ranking in the top 1 million mean a store is large?
No. Rank in the Chrome UX Report reflects Chrome traffic, not revenue or orders. A store in the top 1 million sites in HTTP Archive's September 2026 crawl has a lot of visitors; it may sell little, and a store with strong sales and few visitors may rank lower. Rank is a traffic proxy only.
Use rank to compare where high-traffic sites run, and use revenue to judge a business. The data has no revenue figure for any platform's sites.
When does a growing store outgrow Wix or Squarespace?
The data does not set a point at which a store outgrows Wix or Squarespace. It shows that few Wix and Squarespace stores rank among high-traffic sites: 0.4% and 0.5% reach the top 1 million in HTTP Archive's September 2026 crawl, against 10.6% for Shopify. The reasons are not in the data.
Stores that grow may move platform, or the builders may draw more small stores to begin with; the data cannot tell which. Judge the move on features, costs and your own growth plan.
What counts as a Wix or Squarespace store in this data?
HTTP Archive counts a site as Wix eCommerce or Squarespace Commerce when it detects the commerce platform on the site, in its September 2026 crawl. A Wix or Squarespace site with no detected store is not in these counts, and the counts are mobile origins with enough Chrome traffic, not stores.
The totals are 123,133 Wix eCommerce origins and 92,762 Squarespace Commerce origins, against 452,270 for Shopify. The shares divide each platform's top 1 million origins by its own total.

Questions
What share of Shopify sites rank in the top 1 million?
HTTP Archive's September 2026 crawl puts 47,956 of Shopify's 452,270 mobile origins in the top 1 million sites by Chrome traffic. That is 10.6%, a share computed by Deploi.
Do Wix and Squarespace stores rank in the top sites?
A few hundred do. In HTTP Archive's September 2026 crawl, 540 Wix eCommerce origins and 466 Squarespace Commerce origins rank in the top 1 million, 0.4% and 0.5% of each platform's origins. In the top 100,000 there are 11 and 10.
Does a top 1 million rank mean high revenue?
No. The rank comes from the Chrome UX Report and reflects Chrome traffic, not revenue or orders. A top 1 million store has many visitors, but the data holds no sales for any platform.
Does this show that Wix and Squarespace limit growth?
No. The data shows where high-traffic sites run, not why. Low shares of 0.4% and 0.5% in the top 1 million, against 10.6% for Shopify, may reflect who chooses each platform.
Are the counts stores or sites?
They are mobile origins on which HTTP Archive detects the commerce platform in its September 2026 crawl, with enough Chrome traffic to appear in the Chrome UX Report. They are not counts of stores.
