How do multiple simultaneous B2B catalogs (one per customer segment) migrate to Shopify's 3-catalog limit on non-Plus plans, if we exceed that number?
Short answer
Per-segment business-to-business (B2B) catalogs migrate below Shopify Plus by collapsing into three price structures or fewer, not three segments. Basic, Grow and Advanced allow 3 active catalogs across all B2B markets (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Volume tiers fit inside a catalog as price breaks, so they never add one. Past three, price an app against Plus.

Deploi’s call
Collapse by pricing rule, never by customer segment. Most "one catalog per segment" models on legacy platforms are three or four genuine price structures wearing different labels. That is why we scored the catalog ceiling a data-modeling decision, not an automatic Shopify Plus trigger.
WaitCollapse into three native catalogs when
- The effective-price export leaves three or fewer genuine price structures.
- The other differences are volume tiers, which price breaks hold inside one catalog (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- Each segment is a set of accounts, which a business-to-business (B2B) market of specific company locations can hold (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
BuyWeigh a pricing app against Plus when
- Four or more genuine structures survive the export, which our catalogs and price lists record scores DEPENDS below Plus: price collapse, app and Plus side by side (October 2026).
- The catalog count is your only Plus-only need, which our 3-catalog cap record scores a pricing-rules app BUY (October 2026).
- Deposits, partial payments or direct company catalogs are on the roadmap too, and all three are Plus-only (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- Several key accounts each need their own contract prices, which below Plus spends a catalog per account.

What do Shopify's catalog limits allow below Shopify Plus?
Below Shopify Plus, Shopify allows 3 active catalogs across all business-to-business (B2B) markets, and each catalog reaches buyers through a B2B market. Basic, Grow and Advanced share that cap, and those plans need new Shopify Markets to use B2B catalogs at all (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Plus is unlimited and can also assign catalogs directly to companies and company locations.
A B2B market can include only the company locations you specify (Shopify Help Center, October 2026), so one customer segment can still be one market with one catalog. The cap of three is what binds, which means you should count catalogs the way Shopify counts them before you plan the migration.
| Limit | Basic, Grow and Advanced | Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Active catalogs | 3, across all B2B markets | Unlimited |
| Where a catalog attaches | B2B markets only | B2B markets, companies and company locations |
| Catalogs on one company location | The store-wide cap of 3 binds first | 25 |
| Price breaks per product, inside a catalog | 10 | 10 |
How many price structures do your segment catalogs actually hold?
Your segment catalogs hold as many price structures as they have distinct sets of effective prices, and that number usually sits below the catalog count. Legacy business-to-business (B2B) platforms make catalogs cheap, so many exist for reasons other than price. Think of a sales territory label, a merger snapshot, a test copy, or a per-account clone one stock-keeping unit (SKU) apart. A wholesale group that only moves a retail buyer onto trade prices isn't a structure either, because on Shopify that buyer stays one customer record assigned to a company location.
Run this count before you model anything:
- Export every price list with its effective price per SKU. Not the discount label, the resulting number.
- Hash each list. Lists that produce identical prices across the SKU set are one structure, whatever their names.
- Sort the rest by distance from list price. Many collapse into a few percentage bands.
- Isolate the genuine exceptions. Contract prices on named SKUs for named accounts are real, and usually a short list.
- Count what is left. That number, not the catalog count, decides between three catalogs, an app and Shopify Plus.
In our experience the count lands below what the client expected, so we run it before anyone picks a plan.
Where do a named account's contract prices go?
A named account's contract prices go in a catalog of their own, because a catalog's prices reach every buyer it serves. Shopify's fixed prices "override any overall adjustments that you set" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). So contract rows added to a band catalog, one percentage tier that many accounts share, would reprice every account in it.
- Below Shopify Plus, the contract catalog sits on a business-to-business (B2B) market built from that account's company locations, which spends one of your 3 catalogs on one customer. If the account also stays in a band market that lists specific company locations, Shopify ranks the two markets equally and shows the lower price (Shopify developer docs, October 2026). So a contract price above the band price won't show.
- On Plus, a small catalog holding only the contract products can sit directly on the account's company location. Where it and a market's band catalog price the same product, "your B2B store displays the most specific price for that item" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). So the contract price shows, even above the band price.
Branch pricing follows the same rule. A headquarters with regional branches becomes one company with a location per branch, and each branch with prices of its own needs its own catalog.
Which way past three catalogs costs least?
Collapsing business-to-business (B2B) segments by pricing rule costs least, because it needs only data work, and Shopify Plus costs most. In our ranking:
- Collapse by pricing rule. Three catalogs hold three percentage bands, and each band takes every account whose economics match. Volume tiers sit inside a catalog as up to 10 price breaks per product (Shopify Help Center, October 2026), so they take no catalog of their own. Below Plus, each contract account still takes one of the three. NetSuite quantity schedules still need rebuilding as Shopify price breaks.
- Buy a pricing-rules app. Our 3-catalog cap record scores an app BUY while the cap is your only blocker (October 2026). Paid plans on the three listings it names run $24.99 to $299 a month (Wholesale Pricing Discount B2B, SparkLayer and BSS B2B Wholesale Pricing listings, October 2026).
- Upgrade to Shopify Plus. Plus starts at $2,300 a month on a 3-year term or $2,500 on a 1-year term (Shopify, October 2026). Upgrade for catalogs only when a second Plus-only need joins them. Plus still caps each company location at 25 catalogs, so the collapse happens anyway. Our 30-plus price tiers record handles that ceiling by splitting an account across locations.
When should two price lists stay separate?
Two price lists should stay separate when they differ for a reason a collapse would erase: a contract, a hand-set currency or product availability.
Deploi’s point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.
- Where we disagree
- The category treats the 3-catalog cap as a Plus upsell and answers the question with a plan recommendation. We think that is backwards, and expensively so. The cap is a prompt to find out how many prices you really have, and the answer to that question is worth more than the catalogs, because it is the same answer your ERP and your sales team need.
- What we refuse to quote
- A migration price before the price-list export exists. We run the export and hash before we quote, not after, because the number of genuine price structures moves this scope more than anything else, and nobody knows it at the start, including us.
Decision records behind this answer
When this answer changes
- Shopify raises the 3-catalog cap on Basic, Grow or Advanced, or opens direct company catalogs below Plus.
- Shopify changes the 25-catalog ceiling per company location, or the price it shows where a location's own catalog meets a market catalog.
- Shopify changes how volume pricing interacts with a catalog, such as keeping the percentage adjustment on volume-priced products.
- Shopify changes the Plus price of $2,300 a month on a 3-year term or $2,500 on a 1-year term.
- Wholesale Pricing Discount B2B, BSS B2B Wholesale Pricing or SparkLayer changes its plan prices or order limits.
- Shopify changes which price shows when a company location matches two B2B markets that both list specific company locations.
Follow-up questions
What's inside the number
- Do SuiteCommerce's bulk-pricing tables (common in B2B/wholesale setups) migrate to Shopify B2B's volume-pricing rules, or do they need rebuilding?
SuiteCommerce bulk-pricing tables need rebuilding on Shopify business-to-business (B2B).
If you're not the typical case
- Does blended B2B/DTC customer data (one person who buys both wholesale and retail) migrate correctly without duplicating or misclassifying the account on Shopify?
Blended customer data migrates correctly, without duplicates, only when each person becomes one Shopify customer before any company link.
- Does customer-specific product visibility (certain SKUs only shown to certain B2B accounts) migrate correctly to Shopify B2B's catalog-assignment model?
Customer-specific product visibility migrates correctly only for in-or-out rules.
- How do multi-location company hierarchies (headquarters plus regional branches, each with different pricing) migrate to Shopify B2B's company/location model?
Multi-location hierarchies flatten to only two levels on Shopify business-to-business (B2B): a company and its locations.
Related questions
- For a brand at $20M GMV where B2B/wholesale is 10%-30% of revenue, is Advanced's 3-catalog limit already a real constraint?
Shopify Advanced's 3-catalog limit binds a $20M brand with 10% to 30% wholesale at its fourth catalog.
