Does Advanced get the same 99.99% uptime positioning and priority support as Plus, or is that support-tier difference real?
The difference is real and it sits on a floor of no warranty at all. Shopify's Terms of Service state that Shopify "does not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free" and provides the Services "as is" (shopify.com/legal/terms, September 2026). Only Plus adds a stated 99.99% uptime SLA.
Start with what every plan is actually promised
Before comparing tiers, read the floor. Shopify's Terms of Service provide the Services "on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis without any warranty or condition, express, implied or statutory," and state that Shopify "does not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free" (shopify.com/legal/terms, September 2026).
That is the baseline for Basic, Grow and Advanced. There is no published uptime commitment on any of them. Not a weaker one. None.
What Plus adds
Shopify's Plus plan documentation lists, among Plus-only entries, a "99.99% uptime SLA" and "Priority 24/7 support" (help.shopify.com, September 2026). The pricing comparison table renders the support row as "Live chat" for Basic and Grow, "Enhanced live chat" for Advanced, and "Priority support" for Plus, with the Plus plan card describing it as "Priority 24/7 phone support" (shopify.com/pricing, September 2026).
So yes, the tier difference is real. It is the difference between a stated service commitment and no stated service commitment.
The number you will see in marketing is a different object
Shopify's Plus landing page describes "99.99% uptime on average" across Shopify worldwide during major sales events (shopify.com/plus, September 2026). That is an observed average of platform performance. The 99.99% on the plan documentation is framed as an SLA, which is a commitment with, presumably, remedies attached.
These are not the same claim even though they carry the same digits. One describes how the platform behaved. The other describes what Shopify agrees to. Merchants routinely quote the marketing average back as though it were their contract, and it is not.
What we could not verify, and will not assert
We did not find published SLA remedy terms: what a breach of the 99.99% figure entitles a Plus merchant to, how uptime is measured, what the exclusion windows are, or whether service credits exist and at what rate. Shopify does not publish that with the plan description, and we will not describe remedies we have not read.
If uptime is genuinely load-bearing for your business, that is the document to ask for by name during the Plus conversation, before signing a one-year or three-year term. Ask three questions: how is uptime measured, what is excluded, and what is the remedy.
How the support difference shows up in practice
| Advanced | Plus | |
|---|---|---|
| Published channel | "Enhanced live chat," described on the Advanced plan page as "enhanced 24/7 chat support" | "Priority 24/7 phone support" |
| Published response commitment | None | None published with the plan |
| Escalation path | Standard support queue | Priority queue; Plus Support is also the activation path for features such as bot protection |
Per shopify.com/pricing and help.shopify.com, September 2026.
That last row is the underrated one. Plus Support is not only a faster queue, it is a functional dependency. Bot protection, for instance, requires contacting Plus Support to activate (help.shopify.com, September 2026). On Plus, support is part of how some features are turned on at all.
When NOT to weight this row heavily
- When your last three incidents were yours. A theme regression, an app conflict or a bad deploy is not a platform outage, and a faster support queue does not shorten it.
- When you have no incident process of your own. Priority support with no on-call rotation and no runbook still leaves you finding out from a customer.
- When "99.99%" is being quoted at you without a source. Ask which of the two 99.99% figures they mean.
This page describes published plan positioning, not the contractual terms of any specific Shopify agreement. Read your own order form.
The Deploi point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Separate from the facts above.
- Our take: Real difference, wrong emphasis. The move from "no warranty" to "a stated SLA" is meaningful and it is worth asking about properly. Quoting an observed platform average as though it were your entitlement is not asking about it properly.
- What we’ve seen: During peak, the difference that changes outcomes is having an escalation path that a named person on your side already knows how to use, before the incident. Teams that first discover their support channel during an incident do not benefit much from it being a faster channel.
- Where we disagree: Uptime is the most-quoted and least-examined row in the whole Plus comparison. We would trade the headline figure for the published remedy terms without hesitating, and we would rather a merchant asked how uptime is measured than be told it is four nines.
- What this page adds: that Shopify's standard Terms of Service disclaim any uptime warranty for every plan, that the 99.99% appears in two different senses on two different Shopify pages, and that Plus Support doubles as the activation route for at least one Plus-only feature.
