Home>Apps & Integrations>Page Builders>Does GemPages Replace an Upsell App?

Does GemPages' funnel builder support upsell/cross-sell offers natively, or do I still need a separate app like Rebuy?

GemPages covers the post-purchase step only, so a cart or product-page upsell still needs a separate app. GemPages allows up to two offers after payment completes, and excludes Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, Klarna, Affirm and Afterpay (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026). Rebuy works the cart, product page and search, which GemPages does not touch.

Four surfaces, and GemPages owns one of them

"Upsell" covers four different mechanisms that get sold under one word. Sorting them settles the question.

SurfaceWhat it isGemPagesRebuy
Product pageComplete-the-look, bundles, recommended add-onsNoYes
CartCart-drawer offers, progress bars, rules-driven recommendationsNoYes
CheckoutCheckout-extension offersNoYes, via its checkout and post-purchase package
Post-purchaseOffers after payment, before the thank-you pageYes, up to twoYes

GemPages' own funnel documentation describes the stages as pre-sale, sales page, "checkout and thank-you pages are the default Shopify pages," post-purchase upsell or downsell, and thank-you. The pre-sale and sales pages are pages it builds. The one transactional surface it owns is post-purchase (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026).

So the honest answer to "does it replace Rebuy" is no, unless post-purchase offers are the only upsell you run.

The payment-method restriction is the part that decides this

Post-purchase offers on Shopify only fire on checkouts that complete in a way Shopify can interrupt. GemPages publishes the list. Supported: standard credit and debit cards through the regular Shopify checkout, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners Club and UnionPay, plus Shop Pay and PayPal Express Checkout. Not supported: "Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, Meta Pay (Facebook Pay)," Klarna, Affirm, Afterpay, gift cards, bank transfers and cash on delivery (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026).

A discrepancy inside GemPages' own documentation, named rather than resolved. The Sales Funnel overview article says post-purchase offers work "not through accelerated checkouts like Shop Pay, Apple Pay, or Google Pay," which puts Shop Pay on the excluded list. The dedicated supported-payment-methods article lists Shop Pay as supported. The two pages contradict each other as of 14 September 2026. Shop Pay's share of mobile checkouts is large enough that this is not a detail, and we would test it on your own store before modelling any revenue from the feature.

What the feature costs, which is not the subscription price

Free and Build plans are "limited to $100 in upsell revenue per month." Optimize and Enterprise have no limit, with no commission on the first $1,000 in revenue and "$10 charged for every incremental $1,000 in revenue" after that. The Enterprise plan at $199 a month carries "no commission fee, forever" (per gempages.net, September 2026).

Run the arithmetic against a dedicated app before assuming the bundled feature is cheaper. Rebuy publishes a build-your-own model "as low as $25/month for one package," priced per order with volume discounts, and a Platform One tier that its pricing page shows at $534 a month at the sample volume displayed (per rebuyengine.com, September 2026). At $50,000 a year in incremental upsell revenue, GemPages' commission alone is roughly $490 on top of the $59 Optimize subscription. At $500,000 it is roughly $4,990, and the $199 Enterprise tier with no commission becomes the cheaper GemPages path.

A note on Rebuy's App Store listing

As of 14 September 2026, apps.shopify.com/rebuy returns "This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store," while apps.shopify.com/rebuy/reviews returns a live page showing 4.7 stars across 791 reviews. Two fetches, two different answers, from the same domain. Treat the "not currently available" message as unreliable rather than as evidence of a delisting.

When GemPages alone is enough

  • When post-purchase is your only offer surface, and card, Shop Pay and PayPal cover most of your checkouts.
  • When the offers are simple. Two fixed offers after payment, not rules-driven recommendations.
  • When the upsell program is new. Prove the surface works before buying a merchandising engine.

When it is not

  • When the cart is where your AOV moves. GemPages does not touch it.
  • When Apple Pay or Google Pay are a large share of your checkouts. A large part of your traffic will never see the offer.
  • When you want recommendation logic rather than a fixed offer. That is a different product category.
  • When you are already paying for a merchandising engine. Running two upsell systems on one checkout produces attribution arguments nobody wins.

The Deploi point of view

Our own position, from building on Shopify. Separate from the facts above.

  • Our take: GemPages does not replace a merchandising engine, and it was not built to. It replaces a single-purpose post-purchase upsell app for a brand that runs simple offers. That is a real saving and a narrow one (Deploi position, September 2026).
  • What we’ve seen: Post-purchase offer performance is usually reported without the denominator. The offer converts well among the customers who saw it, and a large share of mobile customers never did, because of the payment method they used. Ask for offer impressions as a percentage of orders before anyone celebrates a conversion rate.
  • Where we disagree: "No extra apps required" is the standard claim for bundled funnel features across this category, and it is true only for the surface the builder happens to own. The useful question is never how many apps you can remove. It is which of the four surfaces actually moves your average order value, and then which product owns that one.
  • What this page adds: the four-surface breakdown, the payment methods that silently suppress post-purchase offers, the commission arithmetic against dedicated upsell pricing, and a contradiction between two GemPages help articles about Shop Pay.
