What is GemPages, and how is it different from a plain page builder like PageFly or Shogun?
GemPages is a Shopify page builder with a post-purchase funnel layer and a headless page type bolted onto drag-and-drop editing. The app rates 4.9 stars across roughly 4,200 reviews and carries Built for Shopify status (per Shopify App Store, September 2026). What separates GemPages from PageFly and Shogun is the funnel, billed as a commission on upsell revenue.
What it is, mechanically
GemPages, published by GEMCOMMERCE CO., LTD, is a visual editor that produces Shopify pages, product pages, theme sections and landing pages without writing code. On the surface that is the same product category as PageFly, Shogun and Replo, and for most of what a marketing team does day to day, the four are interchangeable.
Three things are not interchangeable, and they are the reasons this question gets asked.
1. A post-purchase funnel is in the product, not in a second app
GemPages sells "Sales Funnel" as a first-class feature: pre-sale advertorial and listicle pages, the product page, Shopify's own checkout, then "up to two offers after payment is completed," then the thank-you page (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026). GemPages' own marketing says it comes with "One-Click Upsell System. No extra apps required!"
That feature is priced differently from the subscription. On the Free and Build plans it is "limited to $100 in upsell revenue per month." On Optimize and Enterprise there is no revenue limit, and "you won't pay any commission on your first $1,000 in revenue. Once you exceed that amount, a fee of $10 will be charged for every incremental $1,000 in revenue" (per gempages.net, September 2026). The Enterprise plan states "No commission fee, forever."
A 1% revenue share on incremental upsell revenue is a real pricing model with real merits. It is also not what a $29-a-month page builder sounds like, and it is the single most important line on the rate card for anyone running funnel volume.
2. A headless page type that lives outside Shopify
GemPages Instant Landing Pages (ILP) are described by GemPages as "a GemPages page type using headless technology." The documentation is unusually direct about the consequences: "The domain is hosted by ILP, not Shopify," "Pages created with ILP will not appear on the Shopify administrative dashboard," "Many apps do not support headless environments," and "Theme sections are not applicable to ILP pages" (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026).
No plain page builder does this. It is a genuine speed play for paid-traffic landing pages, and it is also a page your ops team cannot find in admin.
3. Image-to-layout AI as the headline feature
GemPages leads on "GemAI to turn any image or URL into an editable layout," with 300 AI image-to-layout sections on the Build plan and unlimited on Optimize (per Shopify App Store, September 2026). PageFly and Shogun both ship AI generation too. The difference is emphasis rather than capability.
Where all four are the same, including the part that matters
Every builder in this category writes into your theme. GemPages documents exactly what it leaves behind, which is more than most vendors do. Its removal guide names the code added to theme.liquid:
<!--Gem_Page_Header_Script-->
{% include 'gem-app-header-scripts' %}
<!--End_Gem_Page_Header_Script-->
<!--Gem_Page_Footer_Script-->
{% include 'gem-app-footer-scripts' %}
<!--End_Gem_Page_Footer_Script-->Those remain after uninstalling unless you edit the theme by hand, and the guide tells you to search for any remaining files containing "gem" and delete those too (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026). Uninstalling "can remove files and scripts needed for displaying some content," which "may cause display issues depending on your Shopify setup." GemPages' own recommended alternative to uninstalling is downgrading to the free plan so live pages keep working.
That is the shared cost of the whole category, honestly documented by one vendor in it.
The prices, stated carefully
| Builder | Published tiers | Note |
|---|---|---|
| GemPages | Free, Build $29/mo, Optimize $59/mo, Enterprise $199/mo. Annual equivalents $23, $47 and $159 per month | Funnel commission applies on top |
| PageFly | Free, Builder from $24/mo, Optimize from $39/mo, Accelerate $99/mo, Power $199/mo, enterprise tiers $299 to $999/mo | A/B testing starts at Optimize |
| Shogun | Draft Mode free, Build $39/mo, Grow $199/mo, Advanced $499/mo. Annual equivalents $31, $159 and $399 per month | A/B testing sold as a separate subscription |
| Replo | Free, Starter $119/mo, Pro $599/mo on the App Store; $99 and $499 at the annual rate | Analytics and sessions bundled |
All figures verified September 2026. Read the Shogun and Replo rows carefully: Shogun's Advanced tier is $499 per month, and $4,788 is its annual price, not a higher monthly tier. Replo's Pro tier is $599 per month, and $5,988 is its annual price.
When a plain page builder is the better buy
- When you do not run post-purchase offers. The funnel layer is the only structural difference, and paying for it unused is paying for nothing.
- When everything must be visible in Shopify admin. ILP pages are not.
- When you run multiple stores. GemPages Theme Sections "can't be directly copied or transferred between Shopify stores" (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026).
- When A/B testing is the point. PageFly includes it from its Optimize tier; Replo bundles analytics; Shogun charges separately. Compare on that axis instead.
The Deploi point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Separate from the facts above.
- Our take: We have scored GemPages head to head three ways, BUILD against Replo and against theme sections, BUY against Shogun, and the differences between these builders matter far less than the shared cost, which is the non-portable markup they leave in your theme. GemPages is the most honest documenter of that cost in the category, which is a point in its favour, not against it (Deploi verdict, September 2026).
- What we’ve seen: The builder choice is almost never what determines whether a campaign page program works. What determines it is whether somebody owns the section library. Teams that save and reuse sections get compounding speed from any of these four. Teams that rebuild each campaign from a template get a slower theme and a page nobody can update in eighteen months.
- Where GemPages is the right answer: a marketing team with no developer, a campaign cadence faster than any dev queue can serve, and post-purchase offers they want to run without buying a second app. That describes a lot of real mid-market teams, and for them the subscription is cheaper than the alternative by a wide margin.
- Where we disagree: The category frames this as GemPages against PageFly against Shogun, because that is the comparison that converts affiliate traffic. The comparison that changes outcomes is builder against theme sections: one rents you speed and charges rent forever, the other costs more up front and leaves you owning Liquid your next agency can read.

Follow-up questions
PageFly vs Shogun vs Replo vs GemPages: which one is actually best specifically for funnel-style landing pages?
Replo and GemPages win funnel work; PageFly and Shogun win page work. GemPages builds the post-purchase step natively and charges $10 per incremental $1,000 in upsell revenue above the first $1,000 (per GemPages, September 2026). Replo prices analytics and sessions into the product at $119 or $599 per month. Shogun sells A/B testing as a separate subscription.
Does GemPages' funnel builder support upsell/cross-sell offers natively, or do I still need a separate app like Rebuy?
GemPages covers the post-purchase step only, so a cart or product-page upsell still needs a separate app. GemPages allows up to two offers after payment completes, and excludes Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, Klarna, Affirm and Afterpay (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026). Rebuy works the cart, product page and search, which GemPages does not touch.
What's the realistic agency cost to rebuild a GemPages-built funnel program into a hand-coded, faster-loading version?
No published benchmark exists for rebuilding a GemPages funnel program, and Deploi will not quote one from a sample this small. The cost is driven by four countable inputs: published pages, saved Theme Sections, Custom Code elements holding third-party app snippets, and post-purchase offers. Count those four before you brief an agency. Uninstalling also leaves named snippets in theme.liquid.
Can GemPages' funnel pages be built entirely without any developer involvement, or does the AI layer still need Liquid tweaks?
GemPages funnel pages build without a developer until you need an app GemPages has not integrated. At that point the documented path is pasting the app's own code into a Custom Code or Liquid element, which accepts "HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Liquid" (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026). Uninstalling cleanly also means editing theme.liquid by hand.
Is GemPages actually a good fit for a mid-market Plus store, or is it built mainly for small dropshipping funnels?
GemPages fits a Plus store for campaign pages and breaks on two Plus-specific needs. Theme Sections "can't be directly copied or transferred between Shopify stores", and Instant Landing Pages "will not appear on the Shopify administrative dashboard" (per GemPages Help Center, September 2026). Multi-store brands and teams that audit everything in admin hit both limits fast.
