Does Searchspring support multi-currency or multi-region catalogs for a Shopify Markets international setup?

Athos Commerce lists multi-currency and multi-language support on its Shopify App Store listing, but publishes no documentation for Shopify Markets catalogs, market-specific pricing or per-market publishing (verified September 2026). Treat multi-region as a contract question, not a feature checkbox: get the market-to-index mapping and the price-field behavior written into the statement of work before signing.

What is verified, and what is not

  • Verified: the App Store listing names "multi-currency" and "multi-language" among its customization features (verified September 2026).
  • Verified: Athos's Shopify catalog ingestion covers core fields, variant fields, tags, metafields and metaobjects, with a documented recommendation to keep products carrying metafields at 20,000 or fewer to avoid sync slowdowns (per Searchspring's help desk, September 2026).
  • Not documented anywhere we could find: Shopify Markets catalogs, market-specific price lists, per-market product publishing, or how a single Athos index resolves prices for a shopper in a non-default currency. The Athos Shopify platform page, the implementation guide and the Shopify help-desk section are all silent on it (checked September 2026).

The questions to put in the statement of work, in order

  1. One index per market, or one index with market-aware pricing? This is the architectural question and everything else follows from it. Multiple indexes multiply cost and catalog-sync time; one index requires the platform to resolve price per market at query time.
  2. How do market-specific price lists resolve? Shopify Markets lets you set per-market prices that are not simple currency conversions of the base price. Ask whether Athos reads the market price list or converts the base price: the answer changes what your filters and sorts do.
  3. What happens to price-range filters and price sorting in a non-default currency? Note that Shopify's own native filters do not display the price filter in non-default currencies (per Shopify's docs, September 2026), so a shopper in a second market losing price filtering is a known failure mode on this platform generally.
  4. How is per-market product publishing handled? A product unpublished in one market must not appear in that market's search results. Ask for the mechanism, and ask to see it.
  5. Does the contract price by index, by market, or by total query volume? With no published rates, this determines whether adding your fourth market costs a little or a lot.
  6. Expansion stores. If you run separate stores per region rather than Shopify Markets (Plus includes a main store plus nine expansion stores, additional stores at $300 per month, per Shopify, September 2026), confirm whether each store needs its own Athos contract.

The honest answer. We cannot confirm from published documentation that Athos handles Shopify Markets catalogs correctly, and we will not paraphrase around that gap. Multi-currency appears as a feature label; Markets-specific behavior appears nowhere. For an international merchant, that is not a minor documentation gap; it is the core of the implementation. Ask for a demo against a multi-market test store before signing, and get the answers to the six questions above in writing.

If the answers are unsatisfying. Native Search & Discovery has documented Markets behavior, including the known price-filter limitation, and a rebuilt in-theme filtering layer sits entirely within your control. We have shipped faceted filtering and navigation eight times at roughly 64 hours of scoped work (directional Deploi estimate). For a merchant whose international setup is the business, owning that layer may be worth more than the console.

The Deploi point of view

Our own position, from building on Shopify. Separate from the facts above.

  • Our take: Multi-region is where discovery platforms quietly stop being turnkey. A "multi-currency" bullet on a listing is not a Markets integration, and the two get conflated in every sales call we have sat in on.
  • What we’ve seen: International storefronts break on the price field more than on anything else: a filter that ranges over base-currency values while the page displays converted prices produces results that look broken and are very hard to explain to a merchandiser.
  • Times we’ve shipped this: 8 builds delivered.
  • What it takes: roughly 64 hours scoped for faceted filtering and navigation (directional Deploi estimate from a small sample of engagements, not a measured average).
  • What this page adds: that the documentation gap exists at all, and the six contract questions that convert it from a risk into a negotiated answer.
