Does Elevar's basic Data Layer plan work fine for a non-Plus Shopify merchant who isn't using Checkout Extensibility?

Short answer

Elevar sells no basic Data Layer plan, so a non-Plus store starts on Core: server-side tracking for "Shopify/Shopify Plus" stores at $225 a month (Audiense, October 2026). Checkout Extensibility is no longer optional either, because Shopify upgraded every store that missed its 26 August 2026 deadline for the Thank you and Order status pages (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).

Deploi’s call

The plan you are asking about is not on sale, and the constraint you are asking about no longer exists. Elevar Core works fine on a non-Plus store at $225 a month on Shopify's App Store (October 2026), purchase event included. Elevar's pixel in Shopify's Customer events, an app pixel by default, carries that event. Shopify's pixel pages name no plan requirement. We score Elevar BUY for maintained destinations, BUILD to own the event stream (Deploi decision record, October 2026).

BuyBuy Elevar Core on a non-Plus store when

  • Paid media runs past roughly $20,000 a month, where Deploi's Elevar vs. built data layer record moves from WAIT to BUY, as the record's illustrative estimate (October 2026).
  • Your destinations are ad platforms, because Deploi's Elevar vs. Littledata record gives stacks built around Google Analytics 4 (GA4) or a warehouse to Littledata (October 2026).
  • Two ad or analytics destinations cover you, because a third needs Advanced at $650 a month (Audiense, October 2026).
  • No data team wants raw, replayable events in a warehouse; if one does, the Elevar vs. built data layer record scores BUILD.

WaitHold off while

  • Meta's channel app runs below Enhanced data sharing, the level where Shopify's server path to Meta starts (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
  • Nobody owns the destination list or the purchase test after each checkout change.

Basis: Elevar vs. a Built Data Layer: Buy Tracking or Own the Pipes?, our Build vs. Buy decision record, scored BUY.

Does Elevar still sell a basic Data Layer plan?

No: Elevar sells no basic or data-layer-only plan today, so a store below Shopify Plus starts on Core at $225 a month. The App Store listing for Elevar Conversion Tracking shows three plans with a 15-day free trial and no free plan, billed in US dollars every 30 days (Shopify App Store, October 2026). Audiense, which now sells Elevar, adds a fourth plan, Elite, through its sales team (Audiense, October 2026).

Older plans survive only for existing accounts. Elevar's billing FAQ, updated 8 October 2026, says it "will eventually be sunsetting old plans" bought before January 2023. It still describes a Starter plan whose order fees stop at "a maximum fee of $50" when no server-side destination is live (Elevar's billing FAQ, October 2026). Elevar's plan guide lists only "Core, Advanced, Premium, and Elite" (Elevar's plan guide, October 2026). So before you pick a plan, compare Elevar's destination caps with the order-only pricing of Littledata, another server-side tracking app.

Can a non-Plus store still stay off Checkout Extensibility?

No: a non-Plus store can't stay off Checkout Extensibility any more, because Shopify upgraded every store that missed its deadline. Shopify's Help Center says "August 26, 2026 was the deadline for stores on a non-Plus Shopify subscription plan to upgrade their existing Thank you and Order status pages" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Stores that weren't upgraded by that date "were upgraded automatically" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Script tags stopped running on the Order status page for Plus stores on 28 August 2025 and "for all other stores" on 26 August 2026 (Shopify developer docs, October 2026). So compare your reporting before and after that date; what the 26 August deadline changed in reporting sets out the checks.

Does Elevar track purchases on a non-Plus store now?

Yes: Elevar tracks the purchase on a non-Plus store through a pixel in Shopify's Customer events, and Shopify's pixel pages name no plan requirement. Elevar creates an app pixel at installation and recommends it for most stores; a custom pixel is the option for stores that customize Elevar's tracking (Elevar's pixel guide, October 2026). Elevar's FAQ adds that a custom pixel's status "must be "Connected"" (Elevar's FAQ, October 2026). Shopify says pixels "automatically load on the Storefront, Checkout, Thank you page, and Order status page" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Shopify lists checkout_completed among its 15 standard pixel events, beside checkout_started and payment_info_submitted (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).

What a store below Plus can't add is its own user interface (UI) on three checkout steps. Shopify says "Checkout UI extensions for the information, shipping, and payment steps are available only to stores on a Shopify Plus plan" (Shopify developer docs, October 2026). That limits customization, so it costs no measurement. Capturing the purchase is not the same as reporting it accurately, so the next thing to check is whether Elevar guarantees accurate purchase data.

What breaks when tracking moves from additional scripts to a custom pixel?

Elevar documents two things that break when tracking moves from additional scripts to a custom pixel: pasted code and old order fields.

  1. Pasted code. Elevar warns: "You should not copy/paste over the code from the 'Additional Scripts' into a Custom Pixel because the Custom Pixel loads scripts within an iframe" (Elevar's checkout guide, October 2026). Shopify confirms custom pixels load "in a lax sandbox environment", an iframe, which is a frame walled off from the page's own code. App pixels load "in a strict sandbox environment using web workers", background scripts with no access to the page (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).
  2. Old order fields. Elevar says order.{anything} and checkout.order_name "are usually not available when the Thank You page loads", so tags should read checkout.order_id instead. Keeping the old fields "can result in conversion seeming lower than it is" (Elevar's FAQ, October 2026).

Deploi's server-side tracking record puts an audit first: run test orders and compare pixel events with order webhooks, the order notices Shopify's servers send to apps (October 2026). Google Analytics 4 (GA4) deduplicates purchases that share a transaction ID (Google Analytics Help, October 2026). So a tag that reads the wrong field can double count, and why agencies pick Elevar over Triple Whale for GA4 duplicates covers the fix.

When should a non-Plus store not buy Elevar at all?

A non-Plus store should not buy Elevar while paid media is small, while Shopify's own server paths are off, or while nobody owns the destinations.

Who are you contracting with now that Audiense owns Elevar?

You contract with Elevar, LLC, now doing business as Audiense, so the legal entity is unchanged even though the brand is moving. PR Newswire carried the July 2026 announcement: "Buxton acquired Elevar in 2024 and Audiense in 2025," and "Elevar will become an Audiense product name" (PR Newswire, 8 July 2026). Audiense's terms, updated 1 September 2026, name Elevar, LLC, doing business as Audiense, as the company you sign with (Audiense's terms, October 2026). The App Store listing still names Elevar, LLC as developer and support provider (Shopify App Store, October 2026).

The old getelevar.com address now redirects to Audiense's product page, while Elevar's documentation keeps the Elevar name (Deploi check, 10 October 2026). So ask that your order form, invoices and renewal notices name the same company before a multi-year commitment. Vendor standing is the other procurement question, and whether Elevar still leads Triple Whale on installs speaks to it.

Deploi’s point of view

Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.

What we’ve seen
The non-Plus stores we have seen lose conversion data this year did not lose it to a plan limit. They lost it to the 26 August 2026 cutover arriving while their tracking still lived in the additional-scripts box, and to pasting old code into a custom pixel that runs in an iframe.
Where we disagree
The standard framing treats Plus as the line between good and broken tracking on Shopify. It is not, and it has not been since Customer Events became the tracking surface for every plan. The real line is whether somebody migrated your checkout tracking on time and tested the purchase event afterwards, and that is a project question, not a plan question.

When this answer changes

  • Elevar or Audiense changes Core's $225 price, its 2,000-order allowance or its 2-destination cap.
  • Elevar sets a date to retire its pre-2023 plans, or stops honoring the Starter plan's $50 cap.
  • Elevar updates its checkout extensibility FAQ, which still says a store not on Checkout Extensibility needs no changes.
  • Shopify adds a plan requirement to app or custom pixels, or to the checkout_completed event.
  • Shopify changes which pages pixels load on, or the sandbox custom pixels run in.
  • Deploi re-scores its Elevar vs. built data layer record or moves its illustrative $20,000-a-month line.
