What's the realistic agency cost to rebuild a GemPages-built funnel program into a hand-coded, faster-loading version?
No published figure exists. Here is the honest answer
A hand-coded rebuild of a GemPages funnel program has no published price benchmark, so Deploi quotes no dollar figure. Four counts in the GemPages page builder set the cost: published pages, reusable Theme Sections, custom code and post-purchase offers. Leaving takes pages down too: GemPages' Uninstall Safely tool turns every GemPages template to Draft (GemPages Help Center, October 2026).

Deploi’s call
The exit cost from any page builder is set by how disciplined the section library was, not by how many pages exist. A brand with twelve well-maintained sections and eighty pages is a smaller project than a brand with forty bespoke pages and no sections. Count sections, not pages (Deploi position, October 2026).
BuildCommission the rebuild when
- A developer or agency can reach your theme, a profile Deploi's GemPages vs. Theme Sections record scores BUILD (October 2026).
- Recurring campaign types drive most new pages, so one preset per type can replace GemPages' template library.
- Your live GemPages pages pass roughly 30 to 50, where that record expects the exit bill to outweigh the subscription (Deploi Build vs. Buy, October 2026).
BuyKeep GemPages for now when
- No developer can reach the theme, a profile the GemPages vs. Theme Sections record scores BUY (Deploi Build vs. Buy, October 2026).
- Nobody has profiled the pages, so the speed gain is unproven.
- The campaign calendar is full until the next quiet window.

Is there a published price for rebuilding a GemPages funnel program?
No published benchmark prices a hand-coded rebuild of a GemPages funnel program, so start from the counts any price is built from. What leaving GemPages does to your pages has its own answer. A range quoted without your page, section and custom-code counts is a guess, and you would take that guess into a budget meeting.
Two published numbers come close, and neither one is a quote:
- One agency's figure. The agency UpSolite, in a June 2026 post, lists a one-time native Liquid rebuild at $3,000 to $8,000, with no page count or scope attached (UpSolite, October 2026).
- A section library's timeline. The GemPages vs. Theme Sections record's illustrative estimate is 6 to 10 weeks for a library of 12 to 20 theme sections, with migration and marketing enablement last (Deploi Build vs. Buy, October 2026).
What should you count before you brief an agency?
Count four things in GemPages before you brief an agency, because each one becomes a line in the quote.
- Published pages. Count live pages by type: landing, product and collection pages, plus Instant Landing Pages (ILP), which "will not appear on the Shopify administrative dashboard" (GemPages Help Center, October 2026). Count published pages, not templates, because test pages nobody unpublished inflate the library.
- Saved Theme Sections. GemPages Theme Sections let you "save any part of your webpage, like banners or product displays, and reuse them on other pages with a click", and one edit updates every connected page (GemPages Help Center, October 2026). Each one becomes a Liquid section with schema settings, so every section you consolidate first is one you don't pay to build twice.
- Custom code. GemPages' Custom Code element takes HTML (page markup), CSS (styling), JavaScript and Liquid, and code can also sit inside any existing element (GemPages Help Center, October 2026). GemPages' integration guide uses that element for apps with no GemPages element, and offers a no-code Shopify App element for "Shopify apps that work with your theme" (GemPages Help Center, October 2026). Where GemPages still needs a developer has its own answer.
- Post-purchase offers. Count each live offer, because each one needs a new home once GemPages goes.
Where do the funnel's post-purchase offers go after the rebuild?
GemPages' post-purchase offers move to another post-purchase app or to a custom extension, because a hand-coded theme cannot draw Shopify's post-purchase page. Shopify lets a store use "only one checkout app to add post-purchase features at a time" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). So the replacement app takes over the slot that GemPages' Sales Funnel held.
A custom extension is the slower route. Shopify's post-purchase extensions are in beta, and "to use post-purchase extensions on a live store, you need to request access" (shopify.dev, October 2026). Deploi's post-purchase upsell record scores renting the offer-testing loop BUY while offers are still in testing, and its illustrative estimate for a custom extension is 4 to 7 weeks (October 2026). Whether an upsell app such as Rebuy replaces GemPages' offers has its own answer.
Which exit tasks cost money whatever the page count?
Three exit tasks cost money whatever the page count: switching off GemPages' code, moving the pages GemPages hosts, and keeping the funnel measured.
- Switching off GemPages' code. GemPages' Uninstall Safely feature removes its code and turns every GemPages template to Draft (GemPages Help Center, October 2026), so run Uninstall Safely only after every replacement page is live.
- Moving hosted pages. Instant Landing Pages (ILP) run on a domain "hosted by ILP, not Shopify" (GemPages Help Center, October 2026). Moving them onto your Shopify domain takes a redirect map and new ad destination URLs, which makes it a revenue task on paid-traffic pages, not cleanup.
- Keeping the funnel measured. GemPages reports offer A/B tests inside its Sales Funnel (GemPages Help Center, October 2026), so save those results before the funnel goes off. Instrument the replacement, whether Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a session tool or Shopify's own reports, before you turn anything off.
How do you keep the funnel program running during the rebuild?
Keep the funnel program running by rebuilding in this order, so live campaigns never lose a page:
- Count pages, Theme Sections, custom code and post-purchase offers, and put the counts in the agency brief.
- Consolidate first, rebuild second. In our judgment, rebuilding forty pages that should be twelve sections with settings is the most expensive mistake in this project.
- Rebuild sections, not pages. A Liquid section library with schema settings is the deliverable; marketing assembles pages from it afterwards.
- Move the highest-traffic page first, and compare it with its GemPages version on real traffic before you commit the rest.
- Stay on a paid GemPages plan while you still edit GemPages pages. GemPages suggests its Free plan over uninstalling, but with more than one published page, "re-publishing any of them will not be permitted" (GemPages Help Center, October 2026).
- Run Uninstall Safely last, after nothing live depends on GemPages.
When should you not rebuild a GemPages funnel program at all?
Don't rebuild a GemPages funnel program when the reason is unmeasured or the timing is wrong, because a rebuild can faithfully reproduce the problem it was meant to fix.
Deploi’s point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.
- What we’ve seen
- The Custom Code elements are what blow up the estimate. They hold app snippets, tracking, review widgets and one-off scripts that nobody inventoried, and they surface during the rebuild rather than during scoping. Asking for that list up front changes the shape of the quote.
- Where we disagree
- Agency content in this category leads with a price range for exactly this question, because a range generates enquiries. We think a range quoted without a page count, a section count and a custom-code inventory is a marketing device, and we would rather publish the counting method and lose the enquiry.
- What we refuse to state
- a dollar range or an hours band for this work. We have not shipped enough GemPages exits to publish one honestly. When we have the sample, this page gets the number and the date it was measured.
- What this page adds
- The parent says leaving GemPages costs you the pages; this page sizes the rebuild: the four counts that set the bill, where post-purchase offers go, what Uninstall Safely and the Free plan do to live pages, and the only published figures that come close.
Decision records behind this answer

- GemPages adds an export from its pages into Shopify theme sections.
- Shopify takes post-purchase extensions out of beta, or allows more than one post-purchase app.
- GemPages changes what its Free plan lets you keep published or republish.
- A source publishes a priced benchmark for rebuilding page-builder pages as theme sections.

- How do I know if my Shopify performance problem is severe enough to justify hiring an agency versus something my in-house team can fix in a day?
A Shopify performance problem needs an agency only when the fix needs profiling or code you cannot edit, like theme JavaScript.
- Does GemPages' funnel builder support upsell/cross-sell offers natively, or do I still need a separate app like Rebuy?
GemPages' funnel builder supports upsells natively only after payment, with up to two offers; its funnel has no cart step and leaves checkout to Shopify (GemPages Help Center, October 2026).
- Can GemPages' funnel pages be built entirely without any developer involvement, or does the AI layer still need Liquid tweaks?
GemPages funnel pages need no developer until a page shows custom data or an app GemPages can't place without code.
