If we're currently on Advanced and considering Plus mainly for Launchpad flash-sale scheduling, is that a strong enough reason on its own?
Launchpad alone does not justify the upgrade. Launchpad "is available only to stores on the Shopify Plus plan" (help.shopify.com, September 2026), but most of what it does decomposes onto Advanced: Shopify Flow "is a free app available on the Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus plans" (help.shopify.com, September 2026). Buy Plus for the checkout gate instead.
What Launchpad actually does
Shopify's description is specific: "Use Launchpad to schedule, coordinate, and execute events, such as sales, product drops, and inventory restocks." The published capability list covers changing product pricing at the start and end of an event, releasing products to sales channels at a chosen time, increasing inventory levels at the start, scheduling theme customizations, scheduling checkout scripts, password-protecting the store ahead of an event, and gathering data afterwards (help.shopify.com, September 2026).
Two things about that list matter for this decision. First, most of those jobs have an Advanced-plan path. Second, one item on Shopify's own list is stale: Launchpad's documentation still references scheduling "line item and shipping scripts," and "as of June 30, 2026, Shopify Scripts has been deprecated. Any Scripts that were still published on your store have been deactivated and no longer work" (help.shopify.com, September 2026). If scheduled Scripts were part of why you wanted Launchpad, that reason expired in June.
Decomposing the job onto Advanced
| Launchpad job | Advanced path | Honest gap |
|---|---|---|
| Publish products at a time | Product scheduling and Shopify Flow, free on all plans | Coordination is manual across the pieces |
| Apply a discount for a window | Scheduled automatic discounts | No single rollback switch across everything at once |
| Swap the theme for the event | Scheduled theme publishing | Fine |
| Raise inventory at open | Flow, or an inventory app | Fine |
| Lock the store before open | Password page, set manually | Manual, and note Launchpad's own warning that an existing password page "is removed when the event begins. It isn't restored when your event ends" |
| One coordinated rollback | Not available | This is the real gap |
| Scheduled Scripts | Gone everywhere since 30 June 2026 | Not a Plus advantage anymore |
The real gap is atomicity, not features
What you lose on Advanced is not any individual action. It is running eight actions at the same instant, and un-running them at the same instant. At 9:00am on a drop, the difference between "the theme, the prices, the inventory and the channel availability all flipped together" and "four people flipped four things within ninety seconds of each other" is a customer-visible difference, and it is the one thing Advanced cannot replicate honestly.
That is worth something. It is not worth $1,901 to $2,201 a month on its own, which at the low end is $22,812 a year for coordination on a handful of events.
Launchpad's own limits, which the pitch tends to skip
- "You can't run or schedule overlapping events."
- "Events must be scheduled to begin at least five minutes after the previous one has ended."
- "When you add collections to a Launchpad event, verify that no collection contains more than 1000 products."
- "All percentage discounts in an event apply to the regular prices of a product, not the compare-at prices."
- Adding a product to a discounted collection mid-event does not apply the discount to it.
- "You can't sell a gift card for less than its value using Launchpad."
All per help.shopify.com, September 2026. The overlap rule alone disqualifies Launchpad for brands running staggered regional drops, which is a common reason people want it in the first place.
When Launchpad does tip the decision
- When drops are the business model. Weekly or twice-weekly timed releases where a ninety-second coordination window is a revenue event, not an inconvenience.
- When it arrives with bot protection. Bot protection is also Plus only (help.shopify.com, September 2026), and the brands that need Launchpad are usually the brands that need it. Two Plus-gated capabilities on one business case is a different case than one.
- When it arrives third on a list. Launchpad as the third reason behind a checkout requirement and a functions requirement is fine. Launchpad as the only reason is a coordination problem you are solving with a platform contract.
The Deploi point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Separate from the facts above.
- Our take: Launchpad is a sequencing tool, and sequencing is the cheapest class of problem to solve badly. We would not sign a three-year platform term to buy it. We score this CUSTOMIZE on Advanced: document the drop runbook, automate what Flow can, and revisit Plus when a checkout or functions requirement joins the list (Deploi verdict, September 2026).
- What we’ve seen: Teams that want Launchpad usually have a drop runbook problem first. Writing the runbook exposes which steps genuinely need to be simultaneous, and the answer is normally two or three, not eight.
- Where we disagree: Launchpad is presented as the flash-sale feature, which implies Advanced stores cannot run flash sales. They can, and they do, at volume. What they cannot do is flip everything at once and flip it all back. Name that as the actual difference and the decision gets easier to make.
- What this page adds: the job-by-job decomposition of Launchpad onto Advanced, Launchpad's published operating limits including the no-overlap rule and the 1,000-product collection cap, and that its scheduled-Scripts capability ended with the 30 June 2026 Scripts deprecation.
