Email & SMS Marketing

Klaviyo vs Omnisend vs Attentive: which is the right email-and-SMS stack for a $20M-$100M Shopify Plus brand?

Short answer

Klaviyo wins email and segmentation for a $20M to $100M Shopify Plus brand; SMS (text messaging) is a separate decision. Add Attentive only when SMS has its own team, and Omnisend only when budget outranks segmentation depth. Klaviyo's SMS consent block runs on Plus checkout pages (Klaviyo Help Center, October 2026), so Attentive's checkout edge has narrowed.

Klaviyo entry prices
$20 a month email, $15 a month SMSEmail at 251 to 500 contacts. SMS is $15 of monthly message spend at per-message rates by country (and, in the US and Canada, number type), carrier fees included; dollar rates replaced credits on 13 July 2026.Sources: Klaviyo (Klaviyo: Email Marketing & SMS on the Shopify App Store, Pricing); Klaviyo Help Center (FAQ on Mobile Messaging per-message pricing)

Deploi’s call

Klaviyo is the right email and segmentation platform for a $20M to $100M Shopify Plus brand, with a dedicated SMS (text message) lane only where SMS is a primary channel with its own team. We score the email-and-SMS stack as two purchases rather than one. Omnisend fits only where budget consolidation outranks segmentation depth. The single-vendor stack usually loses on SMS operating depth rather than on price (Deploi verdict, September 2026).

BuyRun Klaviyo for email and SMS when

  • Email leads and SMS supports it, so one team can run both channels from one customer profile and one set of automations.
  • Segmentation depth or a catalog localized per market is the reason marketing wants the tool.
  • SMS stays under roughly a fifth of owned revenue, a Deploi rule of thumb rather than a published benchmark.
  • You are on Shopify Plus and want consent captured on the checkout steps themselves (Klaviyo Help Center, October 2026).

BuyAdd Attentive as a dedicated SMS lane when

  • SMS has its own owner, its own revenue target and someone driving list growth every day (Deploi Build vs. Buy, October 2026).
  • SMS passes roughly a fifth of owned revenue, the same Deploi rule of thumb.
  • High-frequency promotional sends make a managed relationship worth a contract price Attentive does not publish (Attentive pricing, October 2026).
  • You want the vendor, not your team, to carry onboarding, deliverability and compliance support.

What do Klaviyo, Omnisend and Attentive show on their listings and pricing pages?

Klaviyo, Omnisend and Attentive tie on Shopify App Store ratings and split on price. Klaviyo and Omnisend publish email prices by list size and SMS (text message) prices by message. Attentive publishes no price: its pricing is "tailored to your business needs" (attentive.com, October 2026).

Klaviyo and Omnisend publish prices that scale with the list; Attentive publishes none

Ratings cannot separate the three. Review counts describe how each vendor sells, not product quality. Attentive sells on contract after a free trial (Shopify App Store, October 2026). In our judgment, enterprise buyers rarely leave App Store reviews, so Attentive's 111 reviews beside Klaviyo's 3,357 signal distribution, not quality.

Where do Klaviyo, Omnisend and Attentive differ on checkout consent and Shopify Markets?

Klaviyo, Omnisend and Attentive differ least at checkout and most on Shopify Markets. All three sync SMS (text message) consent from Shopify's built-in checkbox (Shopify Help Center, October 2026), so checkout capture alone does not separate them. Only Klaviyo documents a catalog localized per market.

Multi-currency brands should check how Klaviyo reports revenue across Shopify Markets currencies before relying on that sync.

Why is the email-and-SMS stack two purchases rather than one at $20M to $100M?

At $20M to $100M the email-and-SMS (text message) stack is two separate purchases, because the two layers fail in different ways.

Purchase one: the email and customer-data layer. This is where segmentation, lifecycle automation and reporting live. It is also the expensive layer to change later, because a Klaviyo migration at this size is paced by deliverability, not build hours. Klaviyo's case here is depth: profile-level segmentation, automations that branch on customer behavior, a catalog localized per market and data from 350+ integrations (Shopify App Store, October 2026). Those integrations are where Klaviyo implementation scope grows at $50M. Omnisend's case is that the depth costs money most brands do not use; its listing names 250+ integrations (Omnisend on the Shopify App Store, October 2026).

Purchase two: the SMS lane. SMS carries its own operating questions: list growth, compliance and carrier escalations. It deserves its own decision, made on who will run it rather than on which vendor already sends your email.

When does SMS justify a dedicated vendor such as Attentive?

SMS (text message) justifies a dedicated vendor when it is a primary channel with its own owner, because what Attentive sells now is the operating layer rather than collection. Attentive's historic argument was collection at checkout, and it has narrowed. Klaviyo's own SMS consent block runs on Shopify Plus checkout steps; on other plans it sits only on Thank you and Order status pages (Klaviyo Help Center, October 2026). Attentive's own help center recommends Shopify's built-in checkbox over its older custom checkout checkbox (Attentive Help Center, October 2026). A $20M to $100M brand on Plus is on the right side of the Klaviyo gate.

What remains Attentive's is the operating layer: patented two-tap sign-up units (Attentive's App Store listing, October 2026), plus strategic planning, onboarding and deliverability support, a dedicated support team and built-in Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) compliance tools on every plan (Attentive pricing, October 2026). Whether that is worth an unpublished price depends on how much of your revenue runs through SMS, and on whether anyone on your team wants to own carrier escalations. For staffed two-way texting, Postscript and Attentive split on who writes the replies.

When is Klaviyo, Omnisend or an Attentive-led stack the right platform?

Klaviyo as a single vendor is the right platform for most $20M to $100M brands; a split stack, Omnisend and an Attentive-led stack each fit a narrower case.

  • Klaviyo, single vendor: fits where international is real and segmentation depth is why marketing wants the tool. You get one customer profile and one invoice for email and SMS (text message), and give up the SMS operating depth a dedicated vendor adds. This is the email-led verdict in Deploi's Klaviyo vs. Attentive record. If reviews matter, Klaviyo Reviews is gated by ecommerce platform, not Shopify plan (Klaviyo, October 2026).
  • Klaviyo for email plus a dedicated SMS vendor: fits once SMS has its own team. You gain SMS operating depth and pay for it with two invoices, two integrations and two consent records to keep in sync.
  • Omnisend: fits a single-market catalog where budget outranks segmentation depth, because Shopify Markets translations do not sync to Omnisend (Omnisend Help Center, October 2026). Omnisend publishes its prices up to a quoted Custom plan (Omnisend pricing, October 2026). Deploi's Klaviyo vs. Omnisend record sets out the budget-versus-depth trade.
  • Attentive-led: fits when SMS is the primary owned channel and the brand will pay for a managed program at a contract price Attentive does not publish (Attentive pricing, October 2026). This is the SMS-first case in Deploi's Omnisend vs. Attentive record.

When should a brand skip the Klaviyo, Omnisend and Attentive comparison?

Skip the Klaviyo, Omnisend and Attentive comparison when the problem it would solve is not the platform.

Deploi’s point of view

Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.

What we’ve seen
The brands that regret the single-vendor choice regret it on SMS, not on email, and they regret it later, once SMS has grown into a channel that needs someone to own carrier and compliance questions. The brands that regret splitting regret it immediately, on integration overhead, and then stop regretting it.
Where we disagree
The standard comparison still gives Attentive the checkout-collection advantage. That was true and it is now narrower: Klaviyo collects SMS and WhatsApp consent on Shopify checkout pages for Plus merchants. If you are choosing Attentive, choose it for the enterprise SMS operation, which is real, rather than for a collection advantage that has partly closed.
What this page adds to our own decision records
Our three head-to-head records compare these platforms in pairs. This page is the three-way read at one revenue band, and it argues the pairs are the wrong frame: the real split is email-and-data versus SMS, not vendor versus vendor.

When this answer changes

  • Attentive publishes a rate card, or prices on its Shopify App Store listing.
  • Klaviyo opens its checkout consent block to the checkout steps below Shopify Plus, or Shopify changes which plans can add blocks there.
  • Klaviyo starts syncing wholesale (B2B) or Retail markets, or Omnisend starts syncing Shopify Markets translations.
  • Klaviyo or Omnisend changes its contact tiers or per-message SMS rates.
  • Shopify Messaging gains the segmentation and flow branching that close its data gap with Klaviyo.
  • SMS passes roughly a fifth of your owned revenue, or gets its own owner and target (Deploi rule of thumb).
