Klaviyo vs Omnisend vs Attentive: which is the right email-and-SMS stack for a $20M-$100M Shopify Plus brand?
Klaviyo wins the email and segmentation layer for a $20M to $100M Shopify Plus brand, and the SMS decision is separate. Klaviyo holds 4.7 stars across 3,293 Shopify App Store reviews, Omnisend 4.7 across 3,179, Attentive 4.7 across 112 (verified September 2026). Klaviyo also collects SMS consent at checkout on Plus, which narrows Attentive's old advantage.
The comparison table, with what each vendor actually publishes
Every figure below was checked live in September 2026, and the gaps are stated rather than filled.
| Klaviyo | Omnisend | Attentive | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify App Store (verified Sep 2026) | 4.7 stars, 3,293 reviews, listed 20 September 2012 | 4.7 stars, 3,179 reviews, listed 10 March 2014 | 4.7 stars, 112 reviews, listed 2 July 2020 |
| Entry pricing on the App Store listing | Free up to 250 contacts; Email from $20/month at 251 to 500 contacts; SMS from $15/month for up to 1,250 SMS/MMS credits | Free up to 250 contacts; Standard from $16/month at up to 500 contacts; Pro from $59/month at up to 2,500 contacts | "Free to install. Additional charges may apply" |
| Published enterprise pricing | Vendor pricing page returned no readable content on two attempts this session | Published, contact-tiered, with a 30% first-payment promotion showing $11.20 and $41.30 against $16 and $59 list (omnisend.com, Sep 2026) | None. "Tailored to your business needs based on your message volume, subscriber list size, number of channels, and AI products selected" (attentive.com, Sep 2026) |
| SMS consent at Shopify checkout | Yes, via app block, but "Only Shopify Plus customers can collect transactional consent on their checkout pages" (Klaviyo Help Center, Sep 2026) | Not a published differentiator | Listing states "Works with Checkout"; two-tap signup is the marketed strength |
| Shopify Markets support | Region markets: locale, localized title, price, currency synced to profiles and catalog; "does not currently sync B2B or Retail Markets" (Klaviyo, Sep 2026) | Not published at equivalent detail | Not published at equivalent detail |
| Reviews product | Separate product, Shopify and WooCommerce, from $25/month, requires a paid Klaviyo Email plan (Klaviyo, Sep 2026) | Bundled review requests | Not a review platform |
What the review counts do and do not tell you
Attentive's 112 reviews against Klaviyo's 3,293 is not a quality signal. It is a distribution signal. Attentive sells enterprise SMS through a sales motion, and enterprise buyers do not leave App Store reviews. All three sit at 4.7 stars, which means the ratings are useless as a discriminator and the review counts describe go-to-market, not product.
The decision that actually matters at this size
At $20M to $100M, this is two purchases pretending to be one.
Purchase one: the owned-data and email layer. This is where the brand's segmentation, lifecycle logic and reporting live, and it is the expensive one to change later. Klaviyo's case here is depth: profile-level segmentation, flow branching, a catalog that carries localized product data per market, and an integration surface that reaches beyond Shopify. Omnisend's case is that the depth costs money most brands do not use.
Purchase two: the SMS lane. Attentive's historic argument was collection: it captured subscribers where other tools could not, particularly at checkout. That argument has narrowed. Klaviyo now collects SMS and WhatsApp consent on Shopify checkout pages through an app block, with the Plus gate noted above; non-Plus merchants are limited to thank-you and order-status pages (per Klaviyo Help Center, September 2026). A $20M to $100M brand on Plus is on the right side of that gate.
What remains genuinely Attentive's is the enterprise SMS operation: carrier relationships, deliverability management, compliance tooling and a managed-service layer. Whether that is worth an unpublished price depends on how much of your revenue runs through SMS, and on whether anyone on your team wants to own carrier escalations.
Where each one is the right answer
- Klaviyo, single vendor: international is real, segmentation depth is the reason marketing wants the tool, and SMS is a meaningful but not dominant channel. This is most brands in the band.
- Klaviyo for email plus a dedicated SMS vendor: SMS is above roughly a fifth of owned revenue and has its own team. Two invoices, two integrations, and a real gain in SMS operating depth. (That threshold is a Deploi rule of thumb from scoping calls, not a published benchmark.)
- Omnisend: budget consolidation genuinely outranks segmentation depth, the catalogue is single-market, and nobody is asking for branch logic that Omnisend cannot express. Omnisend publishes its prices, which is worth something on its own.
- Attentive-led: SMS is the primary owned channel, the brand runs high-frequency promotional sends, and there is budget for a managed relationship.
When NOT to run this comparison at all
- When the real problem is data hygiene. No platform fixes duplicate profiles, broken consent records or an unreconciled customer identity. Migrating them just moves them.
- When the brand has not measured owned-channel revenue by flow. You cannot choose a tool for a channel you have not sized.
- When the trigger is a renewal quote. Renewal leverage is a negotiation, not an architecture decision, and rebuilding a lifecycle program to save on a line item rarely nets out.
- When you are inside a replatform. Change one thing at a time. Rebuilding flows and changing ESP in the same quarter makes every regression unattributable.
Vendor pricing on this page is quoted from each company's own published surfaces as of September 2026 and changes without notice. Attentive publishes no pricing; nothing on this page estimates it.
The Deploi point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Separate from the facts above.
- Our take: At $20M to $100M we scored this as two purchases rather than one stack. Klaviyo for owned email and segmentation; a dedicated SMS lane where SMS is a primary channel with its own team; Omnisend only where budget consolidation outranks segmentation depth. The single-vendor stack usually loses on SMS operating depth rather than on price (Deploi verdict, September 2026).
- What we’ve seen: The brands that regret the single-vendor choice regret it on SMS, not on email, and they regret it about eighteen months in when SMS has grown into a channel that needs someone to own carrier and compliance questions. The brands that regret splitting regret it immediately, on integration overhead, and then stop regretting it.
- What this page adds to our own decision records: our three head-to-head records compare these platforms in pairs. This page is the three-way read at one revenue band, and it argues the pairs are the wrong frame: the real split is email-and-data versus SMS, not vendor versus vendor.
- Where we disagree: The standard comparison still gives Attentive the checkout-collection advantage. That was true and it is now narrower: Klaviyo collects SMS and WhatsApp consent on Shopify checkout pages for Plus merchants. If you are choosing Attentive, choose it for the enterprise SMS operation, which is real, rather than for a collection advantage that has partly closed.

Follow-up questions
Does switching from Klaviyo to a Shopify-native-only email tool make sense once a brand hits Shopify Plus, or does Klaviyo stay worth it?
Shopify Messaging now sends email, SMS and WhatsApp from the admin, with 10,000 free emails a month and additional email at $1 per 1,000 up to 300,000 (Shopify Help Center, September 2026). The channel gap is closed; the data gap is not. Brands that switch give up Klaviyo's segmentation depth, flow logic and non-Shopify data sources.
What's the actual Klaviyo implementation scope difference between a $5M brand and a $50M brand on Shopify Plus?
Klaviyo implementation scope between a $5M and a $50M Shopify Plus brand differs on data sources and identity, not flow count. Both build the same core flows. The $50M brand adds a dedicated IP with 3 to 4 weeks of warming, consent collection at checkout, which Klaviyo gates to Shopify Plus, and reconciliation against a separate source of truth.
Does Klaviyo support Shopify Markets for a multi-currency, multi-language mid-market brand?
Klaviyo supports Shopify Markets for region markets, syncing locale, localized product titles, prices and currency to profiles and catalog (Klaviyo Help Center, September 2026). Two limits matter: Klaviyo does not sync B2B or Retail markets, and revenue reporting uses one account-level currency with no conversion outside Benchmarks.
Is Klaviyo's product-review feature actually gated to Shopify and Shopify Plus only, or does it work on any ecommerce platform?
Klaviyo Reviews is not gated to Shopify Plus. Klaviyo supports Reviews on Shopify and WooCommerce only, with no Plus requirement, and bills it separately from email and SMS starting at $25 a month scaling with order volume (Klaviyo, September 2026). A paid Klaviyo Email plan is required. Other platforms are not supported.
How does a mid-market Shopify brand decide which Klaviyo flows to rebuild first after a full replatform, given limited implementation hours?
Klaviyo flow rebuilds after a replatform go in revenue order, starting with abandoned checkout. Klaviyo's benchmark report on 143,000 abandoned cart flows puts average revenue per recipient at $3.65 and the top decile at $28.89 (Klaviyo, published May 2024, 2023 data). Welcome and post-purchase follow. Browse abandonment and win-back wait until tracking is verified.
How long does a full Klaviyo migration off Mailchimp or ActiveCampaign realistically take for a $20M+ GMV Shopify Plus brand?
Klaviyo migration timelines at $20M+ GMV are set by deliverability, not by build hours. Klaviyo puts dedicated IP warming at 3 to 4 weeks and warns that sender reputation carries over from the previous ESP rather than resetting (Klaviyo Help Center, September 2026). Plan the cutover around that window.
