Short answer

Shopify has stopped reporting its merchant count and Plus merchant count, last given for fiscal 2021, and the Plus share of monthly recurring revenue (MRR), last given for Q2 2024, according to its results releases and filings read by Deploi through Q2 2026. Gross merchandise volume (GMV), MRR, gross payments volume and the payments penetration rate are still reported.

  • Each bar runs from the first day of the first quarter stated to the last day of the last quarter or fiscal year stated; Shopify's fiscal year ends December 31.
  • Bars for metrics still reported end on June 30, 2026, the last day of Q2 2026, the latest results read.
  • Years reported counts fiscal years with at least one disclosure of the metric.
  • Gross payments volume and the Shopify Payments penetration rate left the quarterly press release after Q2 2024 and are still reported in Shopify's filings: the Form 6-K for Q3 2024, each Form 10-Q from Q1 2025 and each Form 10-K, so they count as reported.
  • Merchant counts and Shopify Plus merchant counts last appeared in the annual information form for fiscal 2021; later filings say "millions of merchants".
  • Read from Shopify's quarterly results archive from 2015 to Q2 2026; six quarters have no press release in the archive, so their filings were read instead.

What this means for your decision

  • Citing a Shopify merchant count? The last one Shopify gave is in its annual information form for fiscal 2021; later filings, including the Form 10-K for fiscal 2025, say "millions of merchants". Cite the fiscal 2021 figure with its date, and treat any later count as a third-party measure with no source in Shopify's results or filings.
  • Citing gross payments volume or the penetration rate? Both left the press release after Q2 2024 and are still in Shopify's filings, where the dollar figure appears as GMV facilitated using Shopify Payments. Cite the Form 6-K for Q3 2024, the Form 10-Q for quarters from Q1 2025 and the Form 10-K for full years, and do not report either metric as discontinued.
  • Citing the Plus share of MRR? Shopify last gave it for Q2 2024, so a later figure has no source in its results or filings. Date any figure you quote to Q2 2024 or earlier.
  • Showing Shopify's scale today? Use GMV or MRR, each reported in 12 fiscal years through Q2 2026. Do not swap a website count in for a merchant count; they measure different things.
  • Dating when a metric began? The table starts at the first quarterly results that state a figure, Q2 2015 for merchant count, GMV and MRR. The May 2015 IPO prospectus has earlier figures, so do not call Q2 2015 Shopify's first disclosure.

Which Shopify metrics have stopped being reported, and when?

Shopify's merchant count and Plus merchant count were each reported in 7 fiscal years and last appeared in the annual information form for fiscal 2021, and the Plus share of MRR was reported in 8 fiscal years and last appeared for Q2 2024, according to Shopify's results releases and filings from 2015 to Q2 2026, as read by Deploi.

The merchant count was first reported in Q2 2015, the Plus merchant count in Q4 2015 and the Plus share of MRR in Q1 2017. The start is the first quarterly results that state a figure; Shopify's May 2015 IPO prospectus already showed merchant, GMV and MRR figures for earlier periods. The years reported column of the data table counts fiscal years with at least one disclosure of the metric.

Which Shopify metrics are still reported?

Shopify still reports GMV and MRR, each in 12 fiscal years from Q2 2015 to Q2 2026, and gross payments volume (GPV) and the Shopify Payments penetration rate, each in 11 fiscal years from Q3 2016, according to its results releases and filings read by Deploi. Fiscal 2026 counts as a year reported from its first quarters.

GMV and MRR are lines of the quarterly highlights, and the Q2 2026 results are the latest read for this table. The status of each metric is as of the Q2 2026 results.

Did Shopify stop reporting gross payments volume and the payments penetration rate?

Shopify did not stop reporting gross payments volume or the Shopify Payments penetration rate. Both left the quarterly press release after Q2 2024 and are still in its filings: the Form 6-K for Q3 2024, each Form 10-Q from Q1 2025 and each Form 10-K, as read by Deploi through Q2 2026. Each counts as reported, in 11 fiscal years since Q3 2016.

A search of press releases alone would show both metrics ending in Q2 2024. The filings are where they continue. In them the dollar figure appears as GMV facilitated using Shopify Payments, next to the Shopify Payments penetration rate.

Where did Shopify's merchant count go?

Shopify's last merchant count and Plus merchant count appeared in the annual information form for fiscal 2021, filed with Form 40-F, according to its filings read by Deploi from 2015 to Q2 2026. Later filings say "millions of merchants" where the count used to be, including the Form 10-K for fiscal 2025.

Any later figure for Shopify merchants or Shopify stores comes from outside Shopify's filings. For independent counts of live sites, see how many Shopify sites there are and Shopify's market share, measured two ways.

What can be cited instead of a Shopify merchant count?

A Shopify merchant count after fiscal 2021 cannot be sourced to Shopify's results or filings, which from 2015 to Q2 2026 state none after the annual information form for fiscal 2021. Counts of stores after that come from third parties that measure websites. Cite GMV or MRR, which Shopify still reports, when the point is the platform's scale.

Name the source and the period with any figure. A website count and a merchant count are different measures, and a quoted Shopify merchant count dated after 2021 has no source in Shopify's results or filings.

How was this table built, and what does it leave out?

Deploi read Shopify's quarterly results archive from 2015 to Q2 2026: press releases, financial supplementals, Forms 6-K, 10-Q and 10-K, and annual information forms. Six quarters have no press release in the archive, so their filings were read instead. The start of each metric is the first quarterly results, and the May 2015 IPO prospectus shows earlier figures.

The table covers 7 metrics. For each it records the first and last period a figure is stated, the current status and the number of fiscal years reported. It does not record the values of the metrics.

Caveats: Shopify metrics by first and last period reported

  • The start of each metric is the first quarterly results. Shopify's May 2015 IPO prospectus already presented merchant, GMV and MRR figures for earlier periods.
  • Merchant counts and Shopify Plus merchant counts last appeared in the annual information form for fiscal 2021. Later filings say "millions of merchants".
  • Read from Shopify's quarterly results archive (press releases, financial supplementals, Forms 6-K, 10-Q and 10-K) from 2015 to Q2 2026. Six quarters have no press release in the archive, so their filings were read instead.
  • Years reported counts fiscal years with at least one disclosure, including fiscal 2026 for metrics still reported at Q2 2026. It is computed by Deploi.

Questions

Does Shopify still publish its number of merchants?

No. Shopify's last merchant count appeared in its annual information form for fiscal 2021, and later filings say "millions of merchants", including the Form 10-K for fiscal 2025, according to Shopify's filings read by Deploi through Q2 2026.

Does Shopify still report GMV?

Yes. Shopify has reported gross merchandise volume in 12 fiscal years, from Q2 2015 to Q2 2026, according to its quarterly results releases and filings read by Deploi. MRR is also still reported, in 12 fiscal years.

Where does Shopify report gross payments volume now?

In Shopify's filings: the Form 6-K for Q3 2024, each Form 10-Q from Q1 2025 and each Form 10-K. Gross payments volume and the Shopify Payments penetration rate left the quarterly press release after Q2 2024 and are still reported there, according to Shopify's results releases and filings read by Deploi through Q2 2026.

When did Shopify stop reporting the Plus share of MRR?

Shopify last reported the Plus share of monthly recurring revenue for Q2 2024, after reporting it in 8 fiscal years from Q1 2017, according to its results releases and filings read by Deploi through Q2 2026.

When did Shopify first report these metrics?

Shopify's quarterly results first state merchant count, GMV and MRR for Q2 2015, the Plus merchant count for Q4 2015, GPV and the payments penetration rate for Q3 2016 and the Plus share of MRR for Q1 2017, per its results read by Deploi. Before that, the Q2 2016 release said only that GMV processed through Shopify Payments "surpassed the billion-dollar mark". The May 2015 IPO prospectus already showed merchant, GMV and MRR figures for earlier periods, so Q2 2015 starts the table, not the metrics.
