Is there a real store-credit solution for B2B customers, or only manual workarounds today?
Short answer
Shopify business-to-business (B2B) store credit is native: you issue it to a company location, and its authorized buyers spend it (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Each location's balance stays under $10,000 USD, and buyers can't pick a partial amount. Credit on a personal profile can't be spent in a B2B store, so issue wholesale credit to the location.

Deploi’s call
Use Shopify's native B2B store credit inside its envelope and stop there. The $10,000 ceiling, and a checkout that spends as much credit as each order allows, make it a goodwill and small-adjustment tool, not a receivables instrument. Treating it as the latter is how teams end up rebuilding it.
CustomizeRun business-to-business (B2B) credits on Shopify's native store credit while
- Each location's balance stays under $10,000 USD (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- The credit is goodwill, a return or a promotion that any authorized buyer at the location may spend.
- Issuing, expiry and reporting can stay inside Shopify, which our store-credit operations record scores CUSTOMIZE on native store credit (October 2026).
WaitLeave the credit in your accounting system when
- One location's credit reaches $10,000 USD or more, above Shopify's ceiling (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- A credit note must hit one named invoice for a set amount, or move to another location, because Shopify allows neither.
- Finance needs the credit in aging and statements, which our receivables aging record keeps in the accounting suite (October 2026).

When did Shopify B2B get native store credit?
Shopify business-to-business (B2B) got native store credit in two steps: the application programming interface (API) in September 2025, then the admin feature in December 2025. API version 2025-10, announced on 15 September 2025, let company locations hold their own store credit accounts (Shopify developer changelog, October 2026). Businesses can "issue credits, process refunds, and manage balances at the location level", in several currencies per location. Shopify's Winter '26 Edition, released on 10 December 2025 (Shopify, October 2026), lists "Store credit for B2B" (Shopify Editions, October 2026). Shopify's B2B roundup of 20 January 2026 says you can "issue and manage store credit for company locations" (Shopify, October 2026). Before that, wholesale teams handled credits with discount codes, checks or a manual adjustment on the next invoice. So if your last evaluation of Shopify B2B predates December 2025, re-check this line. Store credit is one of the ways a B2B order on net terms gets paid.
What does Shopify's native B2B store credit do and not do?
Shopify's native business-to-business (B2B) store credit pays orders and term invoices from one company location's balance, but it can't pay deposits or move between locations (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
| Rule | Shopify's B2B store credit |
|---|---|
| Owner | The company location, shared by its authorized B2B customers |
| Balance ceiling | Under $10,000 USD per location; the limit can differ by currency |
| Amount applied | The full amount; buyers can't choose a partial amount |
| Currencies | Several per location; checkout shows only the balance in its currency |
| Expiry | Set per issuance, with no store-wide default; the soonest-expiring credit is spent first |
| Invoices on payment terms | Can pay one when payment is due |
| Deposits | Can't be paid with store credit |
| Moving to another location | Not supported |
| Staff permission | Edit store credit, in Company permissions |
| Reporting | Store credit transactions report, filterable by company and location |
Store credit is on by default, and a blended store can't limit it to one customer type, so direct-to-consumer (D2C) and B2B buyers both see it. Balances in several currencies follow the currency rules for international B2B buyers.
How much store credit does a B2B order use at checkout?
A business-to-business (B2B) order uses as much store credit as it can, and the buyer can't choose a smaller amount. Shopify's B2B page says "Only the full store credit amount can be applied as a payment method" and that customers "can't select a partial amount" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Shopify's point-of-sale (POS) guide reads "full" as the most the order can take. A customer with $50 USD of credit buying $30 USD of items "must redeem the full $30 USD" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Okendo's guide to Shopify store credit adds that the rest stays: "With $20 of store credit, only $15 is applied and $5 stays on their balance" (Okendo, October 2026). So a location holding $6,200 pays a $2,000 order with $2,000 of credit and keeps $4,200 for the next order or invoice (Deploi arithmetic). Neither guide describes a B2B checkout, so confirm the rule on a test company location before you promise it to buyers.
Which store-credit limits bite a mid-market wholesaler?
Two store-credit limits bite a mid-market wholesaler: the $10,000 USD ceiling per company location, and the transaction fee newer stores pay when credit is spent.
The B2B ceiling is lower than the retail one. A single retail customer account can hold store credit up to, but not including, $15,000 USD (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). A business-to-business (B2B) company location stays under $10,000 USD (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). That runs against intuition, because wholesale credits run larger. In our judgment a returned pallet often tops $10,000, and that credit can't sit on the location as store credit.
Spending credit carries a fee on newer stores. On stores created on or after 12 May 2025, Shopify charges third-party transaction fees on the amount paid with store credit, even on Shopify Payments (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). The fee is 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus (shopify.com/pricing, October 2026), so $9,000 of credit spent on Advanced costs $54 (Deploi arithmetic).
Is native B2B store credit a real solution or a workaround?
Native business-to-business (B2B) store credit is a real solution inside a bounded envelope. Below $10,000 USD per company location, for goodwill, returns and promotions that any authorized buyer may spend, use it rather than building anything (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Outside that envelope you are back to a ledger Shopify doesn't keep. That covers a credit of $10,000 or more, a credit note against one invoice for a set amount, and a credit that must move between locations. Those belong in your accounting system, so how terms orders and credits reach QuickBooks or NetSuite matters more than any store-credit app. Shopify isn't where that record lives; your accounting system is.
When should you not use B2B store credit?
Don't use business-to-business (B2B) store credit where its limits fight the job.
Deploi’s point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.
- Where we disagree
- The apps in this category are usually sold against the claim that Shopify has no B2B store credit. That claim is now false, and the real comparison is narrower: does the app lift the $10,000 ceiling, move credit between locations or let a buyer choose how much credit an order uses, and is that worth a monthly fee? Ask the vendor those questions directly.
- What we tell clients to do first
- Re-verify every line of a B2B feature gap list that is more than two quarters old. B2B store credit was genuinely absent, then genuinely arrived, and requirement documents written in 2025 can still list it as missing.
- What this page adds
- The parent lists store credit as one way a terms order gets paid. This page shows when B2B store credit arrived, that a location's balance stays under $10,000 USD, below the retail ceiling, that checkout spends as much credit as each order allows, and that newer stores pay a transaction fee on credit spent.
Decision records behind this answer
When this answer changes
- Shopify raises the $10,000 USD store credit ceiling for company locations.
- Shopify lets buyers choose a partial amount of store credit, or documents how B2B checkout applies a balance larger than the order.
- Shopify allows store credit on deposits, or transfers between company locations.
- Shopify changes the third-party transaction fee on store credit for stores created on or after 12 May 2025.

This follows from How exactly do net payment terms (Net 30/60/90) work for B2B customers on Shopify, from invoice to payment?
- Can B2B net-terms invoices be exported directly to QuickBooks or NetSuite, or does that require a connector app?
Business-to-business (B2B) net-terms invoices reach QuickBooks or NetSuite through a connector app, not a direct export, because Shopify's export is an orders spreadsheet with payment terms and due dates (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- What currencies can net payment terms actually be issued in? Does this work the same for international B2B buyers?
Net payment terms on Shopify carry no currency: a term is a type and a day count, so it runs in whatever currency the order is in (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).
