How exactly do net payment terms (Net 30/60/90) work for B2B customers on Shopify, from invoice to payment?
Short answer
Shopify's business-to-business (B2B) net terms set a due date of net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 days on the order (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Buyers can pay any time from customer accounts, but Shopify doesn't capture payment when the date passes, on any plan. So collection stays manual or runs through Shopify Flow.

Deploi’s call
Native terms give you the due date and the reminder. They do not give you a credit limit, an order hold, or an aging report, and those three are what a wholesale finance team means when it says "net terms." We scored credit-limit and order-hold management BUILD and accounts receivable (AR) aging CUSTOMIZE for exactly that reason (Deploi verdicts, September 2026).
WaitRun Shopify's native terms as they ship while
- A handful of accounts buy on terms. Our net terms record scores that WAIT, because native terms and draft-order invoicing cover it on any paid plan (October 2026).
- Up to five reminder emails and a charge from the admin keep collection on schedule (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- No account needs stopping before its next order.
CustomizeAdd the finance layer when
- An overdue account must be stopped at checkout, which our credit limits record scores BUILD (October 2026).
- Finance needs aging buckets by account, which our receivables aging record keeps in the accounting system (October 2026).
- Collection should run itself through Shopify Flow's charge action on Shopify Payments, piloted on one account while Shopify's pages disagree on it (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
Basis: Should You Build or Buy Net Terms & B2B Payments on Shopify?, our Build vs. Buy decision record, scored CUSTOMIZE.
What happens between a B2B order on net terms and its payment?
A business-to-business (B2B) order on net terms moves through six steps on Shopify, and none of them captures payment on its own.
- Terms sit on the company location. You set them per location, for all of a company's locations, or on a single draft order (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- The buyer checks out without paying. Net terms count "from the day the order is placed"; due-on-fulfillment terms come due once all items are fulfilled.
- The order waits in payment pending. You can email an invoice with a checkout link, or mark the order paid when money arrives another way.
- Reminders go out if you set them. Up to five reminder emails, from the due date to 30 days after (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- The buyer pays, or you collect. Buyers can click Pay now in customer accounts before or after the due date, or you charge a vaulted company card.
- The term expires. The order shows as Overdue in customer accounts, and "Payments aren’t automatically captured when the payment terms expire" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
So the due date starts a collection task rather than a collection, which means someone has to own step five.
Which payment terms can a Shopify B2B order carry?
A Shopify business-to-business (B2B) order can carry net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 days, due on fulfillment, or a fixed date on a draft order (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Only Shopify Plus can set terms by rule at checkout.
| Payment term | Where Shopify supports it |
|---|---|
| Net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 | Company locations and draft orders |
| Due on fulfillment | Company locations and draft orders |
| Fixed calendar date | Individual draft orders only |
| Due on receipt | Orders in payment pending, set in the admin |
| Terms set by order value or cart contents | Payment Customization Function, Plus only |
| Net 10, net 75 or any other day count | No template |
Merchants pick from Shopify's list, because the application programming interface (API) returns payment terms templates "eligible for all shops and users" (Shopify developer docs, October 2026). The Payment Customization Function's operation that sets terms "is only available on stores with the Plus plan" (Shopify developer docs, October 2026). So negotiated terms outside the template list, such as 2/10 net 30, need renegotiating to a template or custom work.
What do Shopify net terms leave out that a finance team expects?
Shopify net terms leave out four controls a wholesale finance team expects: a credit limit, an order hold, an aging view and escalation.
- A credit limit. Shopify's business-to-business (B2B) company location record has no credit limit field, only custom metafields (Shopify developer docs, October 2026), so a limit is data that a custom gate must read.
- An order hold. Shopify labels an unpaid order Overdue and lets the next order through, which is why our credit limits record scores enforcement BUILD (October 2026).
- An aging view. The closest native view is an order filter that shows orders "either overdue or due today" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). It has no 30, 60 or 90-day buckets, so aging lives in your accounting system, fed by a QuickBooks or NetSuite connector.
- Escalation. Reminders stop 30 days after the due date, with no dunning stage or write-off after them (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
Shopify ships hooks for these controls, not the controls themselves, so each one is a build or an app. The Cart and Checkout Validation Function lists B2B "credit limits" among its uses (Shopify developer docs, October 2026). A custom app containing a function needs Shopify Plus, while public App Store apps with functions run on any plan (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).
Which payment methods settle a Shopify B2B order on terms?
Five payment methods settle a Shopify business-to-business (B2B) order on terms, and only a vaulted card or bank account lets you collect without the buyer acting (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
| Payment method | Requirement | Fee or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Credit card | Entered by the buyer at Pay now, or vaulted to the company location on Shopify Payments | Your card processing rate |
| Vaulted bank account, Automated Clearing House (ACH) Direct Debit | US store in USD with over 100 fulfilled orders; buyer's US bank account | $4 USD per failed debit; $15 USD per lost dispute |
| Manual method: wire, check or bank deposit | You record each payment | No Shopify transaction fee |
| Store credit | Issued to the company location | Balance under $10,000 USD |
| PayPal | Offered at B2B checkout | Set by PayPal |
ACH Direct Debit can take up to 4 business days to confirm, and buyers can dispute a debit through their bank for up to 60 calendar days (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). So a debit on a Net 60 order can still unwind about 120 days after the order (Deploi arithmetic). Store credit has limits of its own on a company location, and ACH's US-only rule shapes terms for international buyers.
Can Shopify Flow collect B2B payment on the due date?
Shopify documents a Flow action that collects business-to-business (B2B) payment on the due date, while its payment terms page says to charge a saved card by hand. Flow's Charge vaulted payment for B2B order action charges a vaulted card or debits a vaulted bank account for an order with payment terms (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). A workflow runs it from the Payment schedule is due trigger. It requires Shopify Payments, and a bank debit needs you and the buyer in the United States. Shopify announced the action on 17 June 2026 (Shopify Changelog, October 2026).
So pilot the Flow charge on one account, and keep a manual charge from the admin as the fallback. When a charge fails, you can email the buyer a link to update the vaulted card (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
When should you not offer net terms at all?
Don't offer net terms when nobody will collect, when you can't judge the account's credit, or when another model already owns the order.
Deploi’s point of view
Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.
- What we’ve seen
- The scoping conversation that goes badly is the one where terms are demoed in the admin and everyone agrees the requirement is met. The requirement is met for the buyer and unmet for the controller. We now run the first workshop with finance in the room rather than merchandising, and we ask for a current aging report before we ask for anything else.
- Where we disagree
- The category treats "does Shopify support Net 30" as the qualifying question for a B2B replatform. It is close to meaningless, because every platform supports a due date. The qualifying questions are whether you can stop an over-limit order, whether you can see the 0 to 30, 31 to 60 and 61 to 90 day buckets by account, and whether a partial payment can be allocated across invoices. Ask those three and the platform comparison sorts itself out in an afternoon.
- What we refuse to quote
- a fixed price for "net terms integration" before we have seen the aging report and the collections process. The terms engine is free. Everything that makes it operable is the project, and its size is set by how your finance team already works.
Decision records behind this answer
When this answer changes
- Shopify adds a credit limit field, or blocks the next order from an account with an overdue balance.
- Shopify reconciles its payment terms page with its card vaulting page on charging saved cards through Flow.
- Shopify adds payment terms templates beyond net 7 to net 90, or an early-payment discount.
- Shopify moves deposits, partial payments, payment requests per fulfillment or rule-based payment terms below Plus.
- Shopify extends payment reminders past 30 days after the due date, or adds escalation steps.
- ACH Direct Debit opens to stores or buyers outside the United States.
Follow-up questions
What's inside the number
- What is vaulted-card payment for B2B, and how is it different from storing a card on a regular customer account?
A vaulted card in Shopify business-to-business (B2B) belongs to a company location, not a person, so every customer with permissions for that location can use it at checkout (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
If you're not the typical case
- Is there a real store-credit solution for B2B customers, or only manual workarounds today?
Shopify business-to-business (B2B) store credit is native: you issue it to a company location, and its authorized buyers spend it (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- What currencies can net payment terms actually be issued in? Does this work the same for international B2B buyers?
Net payment terms on Shopify carry no currency: a term is a type and a day count, so it runs in whatever currency the order is in (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).
What changes afterwards
- What's the actual cash-flow tradeoff of offering Net 60 terms to a large wholesale account vs requiring payment upfront?
Net 60 costs about 1.15% of order value in financed working capital against payment up front, at the US bank prime rate of 7.00% (Federal Reserve H.15, October 2026; Deploi arithmetic).
What to do next
- Can B2B net-terms invoices be exported directly to QuickBooks or NetSuite, or does that require a connector app?
Business-to-business (B2B) net-terms invoices reach QuickBooks or NetSuite through a connector app, not a direct export, because Shopify's export is an orders spreadsheet with payment terms and due dates (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- Does native Shopify B2B integrate with any third-party trade-credit or invoice-financing provider, or is that entirely external?
Native Shopify business-to-business (B2B) has no built-in trade credit or invoice financing; providers integrate from outside, as checkout payment apps.
Related questions
- Do custom payment-term agreements (e.g., net-45 negotiated for one specific account) migrate correctly to Shopify B2B's payment-terms feature, or default to standard terms?
Net 45 migrates exactly, because net 45 is one of Shopify's six net payment terms for business-to-business (B2B) accounts (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- Should we bundle subscriptions with our new B2B wholesale channel, and does any Shopify subscription app support company-level recurring orders?
No subscription app can sell subscriptions on Shopify's business-to-business (B2B) channel: Shopify lists Subscriptions as incompatible with B2B (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
- How do wholesale/B2B customer net-terms payment history and credit-limit data migrate as customer metadata during a platform switch?
Credit limits migrate to Shopify as metafields on the company or company location, because Shopify's business-to-business (B2B) records have no credit-limit field (Shopify developer docs, October 2026).
