What's ConveyThis, and how does it compare to Shopify's native Translate & Adapt for a mid-market brand?

Short answer

ConveyThis is a third-party layer that translates a Shopify storefront as shoppers load it (ConveyThis's page, October 2026). Its app costs $0 to $63.99 a month but has 4 reviews (Shopify App Store, October 2026). Shopify's Translate & Adapt is free with about 1,400 reviews (Shopify App Store, October 2026), so it is the safer default for a mid-market brand.

Deploi’s call

ConveyThis's proxy model translates pages as shoppers load them, which solves a real problem Translate & Adapt cannot. For a mid-market brand, though, its four-review Shopify listing is too thin to build a storefront dependency on. Solve app-content reach inside the Shopify data model first, and consider a proxy only if that genuinely fails.

WaitStay on Translate & Adapt when

  • Your languages fit Translate & Adapt's automatic limit: 2 by default in the US and Canada, 8 in 12 European countries (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
  • You want every translation stored in Shopify; Deploi's translation record calls storage location "the deciding question" (Deploi decision record, October 2026).
  • Your translated pages need subfolder URLs such as /fr/, because ConveyThis doesn't offer them on Shopify (ConveyThis, October 2026).

DependsTrial ConveyThis on one language only when

  • Translators who aren't Shopify Partners must edit translations, and ConveyThis's team roles on Pro and higher cover them (ConveyThis, October 2026).
  • App content stays untranslated after you have tested the paid apps that translate it, such as Langify.
  • Your monthly translated page loads fit the plan's allowance (ConveyThis pricing, October 2026).
  • You accept a trial against Deploi's translation record, which tells buyers to "reject proxy and script-render architectures outright" (Deploi decision record, October 2026), and you have priced the exit.

What is ConveyThis, and which of its Shopify listings is live?

ConveyThis is a website translation service from ConveyThis LLC, and its live Shopify app is ConveyThis: AI Translate, launched in June 2024 (Shopify App Store, October 2026). That listing showed 3.7 stars from 4 reviews on 9 October 2026. ConveyThis's older listing, Translate with AI: ConveyThis, reads "This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store" (Shopify App Store, October 2026). So the review history behind the app you would install is four reviews long. ConveyThis also translates WordPress, Webflow and other websites (ConveyThis, October 2026). Whether Shopify's free Translate & Adapt app is enough for a mid-market store is answered separately.

How does ConveyThis translate a Shopify storefront?

ConveyThis translates a Shopify storefront as shoppers load it, which makes it a layer over the store. ConveyThis says new or edited text "is translated the first time someone opens that page in another language", and "Your edits in the ConveyThis dashboard stay in place" (ConveyThis, October 2026). On the Free and Starter plans, "translated pages don't get URLs of their own". From Business up, each language gets a subdomain, and "Only fr.example.com points at ConveyThis" (ConveyThis, October 2026). ConveyThis says "Language folders such as /fr/ are not available on Shopify", and checkout and order emails stay in Shopify to translate.

That layer sets the cost of leaving. Shopify's Translate & Adapt stores translations as Shopify content, and those translations "aren't deleted when you uninstall the app" (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Leaving ConveyThis takes an export instead, which ConveyThis offers as comma-separated values (CSV) or translation memory exchange (TMX) files (ConveyThis, October 2026).

What does ConveyThis cost for a Shopify store?

ConveyThis costs $0 to $63.99 a month on its Shopify App Store listing, for 1 to 5 extra languages (Shopify App Store, October 2026). Its plans bill in US dollars every 30 days.

ConveyThis counts each word "once, when it is first translated", but page loads are counted every month (ConveyThis, October 2026). So a busy store can outgrow a plan on traffic first, which ConveyThis itself warns about.

How does ConveyThis compare with Translate & Adapt for a mid-market brand?

Translate & Adapt beats ConveyThis for a typical mid-market Shopify store on price, review depth and where translations live. ConveyThis's own comparison also scores Translate & Adapt higher, 4.30 against its own 3.85 on five weighted criteria, and says "for a typical Shopify store that is the right result" (ConveyThis, October 2026). It gives ConveyThis the edge only on workflow and governance.

ConveyThis wins where translators who aren't Shopify Partners need their own logins, because its team roles let them edit "without a Shopify staff account" on Pro and higher (ConveyThis, October 2026). A Partner agency can use a Shopify collaborator account instead, as handing translation upkeep to an agency explains.

When should a mid-market brand not choose ConveyThis?

A mid-market brand should not choose ConveyThis when Translate & Adapt or a native-storage app covers the gap, because ConveyThis adds a vendor layer to every translated page view.

Deploi’s point of view

Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.

What we’ve seen
The question we ask every translation vendor is "does a translation created in your tool appear in Shopify's own translation records." It is a yes-or-no question, vendors answer it slowly, and the answer predicts the cost of leaving better than any feature comparison.
Where we disagree
Roundups list ConveyThis alongside Langify and Weglot as a like-for-like alternative. It is a different category of product with a different failure mode, and ConveyThis's older Shopify listing now reads as unavailable. Verify the listing before you shortlist the vendor.
What this page adds
The parent weighs translation tools by reach and workflow. This page adds a vendor that translates pages as shoppers load them from its own dashboard, on subdomains only and on plans metered by words and monthly page loads, with a four-review live listing.

When this answer changes

  • The ConveyThis: AI Translate listing passes 50 reviews, or the older ConveyThis listing returns to the App Store.
  • ConveyThis offers language subfolders on Shopify, or drops its monthly page-load allowance.
  • ConveyThis's App Store listing and pricing page agree on word allowances.
  • Shopify extends Translate & Adapt's eight-language automatic tier to stores in the US and Canada.
  • Translate & Adapt gains a way to translate third-party app content stored outside Shopify.
