Does Searchspring support multi-currency or multi-region catalogs for a Shopify Markets international setup?

Short answer

Athos Commerce, formerly Searchspring, advertises multi-currency support but documents no Shopify Markets setup for its Shopify app. Athos says "product prices are supplied per currency" (Athos Global Commerce, October 2026), yet its Shopify field guide names one price field (Athos field guide, October 2026). So get the market-to-account mapping and price behavior in writing before signing.

Deploi’s call

Searchspring, now Athos Commerce, advertises multi-currency support, but a "multi-currency" bullet on a listing is not a Shopify Markets integration. The two get conflated in every sales call we have sat in on, and multi-region is where discovery platforms quietly stop being turnkey.

BuySign with Athos for a Shopify Markets store when

  • Athos states in writing how many Athos accounts your markets need and what each costs, because its Global Commerce page promises one contract while its help pages give extra storefronts their own accounts (Athos Global Commerce, October 2026).
  • A demo on a test store with two markets shows each market's prices, price filters and sorts in that market's currency.
  • Products outside a market's catalog stay out of that market's Athos results, as they do in Shopify's own search (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
  • The contract carries a 12-month term, price-lock language and written export terms, the protections Deploi's Athos versus native record asks for (October 2026).

CustomizeKeep filters on Shopify's own stack while

  • Athos cannot show in writing how it reads market prices, so its filters could range over prices your shoppers never see.
  • Your facet attributes live in metafields, the schema-first approach that Deploi's filters record scores CUSTOMIZE (October 2026).
  • Your team can live without a price filter outside the default currency, the documented limit of Shopify's own filters (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).

What does Athos publish about multi-currency and multi-region selling?

Athos Commerce publishes its multi-currency and multi-region claims on its marketing pages, not in its Shopify setup guides. Its Global Commerce page promises search in 31 languages and says "Currency is passed with each shopper session, product prices are supplied per currency" (Athos Commerce, October 2026). The same page offers "Multi Site Controls" for regional storefronts. Asked whether a business needs separate contracts for each region or brand, it answers that one implementation "covers multiple regions, languages, storefronts, and brands under a single account."

The Shopify app listing names Multi-language among its search features and Multi-currency only among its upsell and cross-sell features. Its "Works with" list names no Shopify Markets (Athos listing, October 2026). Athos is the company Searchspring became, and what Athos runs on a Shopify store covers its console and plans. Languages are a separate Shopify setting from markets, so how Shopify's languages and markets differ is worth settling before you scope search.

What do Athos's Shopify help pages leave undocumented?

Athos's Shopify help pages leave the Shopify Markets mapping undocumented, and what they do show ties search prices to each Athos account's currency. The Shopify field guide says "Price: this is pulled from the variant_price field" and names no market catalog or price list (Athos Commerce, October 2026). Athos's price-detection guide says search results "will be reflected in the currency defined for the selected account" (Athos Commerce, October 2026). Athos's campaign-copy guide says a target site "must share the same language and currency as the source site" (Athos Commerce, October 2026). The help center's one Shopify Markets mention is a tracking FAQ for "multiple accounts in Athos but only a single Shopify store (i.e., Shopify Markets)" (Athos Commerce, October 2026). So a store that shows search results in four currencies should ask Athos whether that means four accounts.

Why is price the hard part of a Shopify Markets setup?

Price is the hard part because Shopify Markets can give each market its own prices and its own product list. Shopify says "Catalogs control which products are available in each market and at what price", through fixed prices or a percentage adjustment (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Shopify's own search then shows "only products that are published in their market", and a product outside the shopper's market returns the store's 404 page.

Through Shopify's Storefront application programming interface (API), a search app sees those market prices only when it asks with a country context. Without one, Shopify returns the primary market's products "with prices in the shop's currency" (Shopify developer docs, October 2026). So an index built from one variant price can rank a product the shopper cannot buy, at a price they never see. Athos's Live Pricing add-on changes only the prices shown: "Any price filtering or price sorting will still be working off of the latest price value indexed into Athos" (Athos Commerce, October 2026). Shopify's free Search & Discovery app sidesteps this by hiding the price filter outside the default currency (Shopify Help Center, October 2026), one of the native limits Athos competes with.

What should the statement of work say before you sign?

The statement of work should answer six questions in writing, in this order:

  1. How many Athos accounts will your markets run on, and what does each cost? Everything else follows from it. Athos promises no separate contracts per region, yet its help center gives extra storefronts their own accounts.
  2. Does the index read each market catalog's prices? Fixed prices and percentage adjustments are not exchange-rate conversions of the variant price.
  3. What do price filters and sorts show in a second currency? Ask to see them on a test store with two markets.
  4. Do products outside a market's catalog stay out of that market's results? Shopify's own search keeps them out, so the Athos index has to match.
  5. Does the price follow accounts, markets or query volume? With no published Athos rates, this decides what a fourth market costs.
  6. Does each expansion store need its own Athos contract? Shopify Plus includes a main store and 9 expansion stores, then charges "an extra $300 USD per month per store, or a revenue share across all stores" (Shopify, October 2026). Plus pricing for expansion stores in other countries covers that bill.

What do other search apps document for Shopify Markets?

Other search apps document their Shopify Markets answer, which gives you a benchmark to hold Athos to. Algolia's Shopify app "creates one index for each market and language" and stores each extra currency's prices as a separate object (Algolia, October 2026). Algolia also warns that "the processing time and number of records increases with each new index."

Klevu combined with Searchspring to form Athos Commerce in January 2025 (Athos Commerce, October 2026). Its own Shopify listing says "Onsite Search, Merch & Recommendations fully compatible with Shopify Markets" (Klevu listing, October 2026). So ask Athos which engine your contract runs on, and get the same mapping in writing. Deploi's answer on choosing Athos over Algolia weighs the two vendors on who runs search.

When should an international store not sign with Athos yet?

An international store should not sign with Athos until a demo and the contract settle prices, accounts and catalogs.

Deploi’s point of view

Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.

What we check first
Test the price field before anything else. In our judgment, international storefronts break on price more than on any other field: a filter that ranges over base-currency values while the page shows converted prices produces results that look broken and are hard to explain to a merchandiser.
What this page adds
The parent explains what Athos runs and how it is sold. This page checks Athos's multi-currency claims against its Shopify help pages, shows where Shopify Markets prices and per-market publishing must reach a search index, and lists the contract questions that settle it.

When this answer changes

  • Athos publishes a Shopify Markets setup guide or adds Markets to its app listing's "Works with" list.
  • Athos documents how many Athos accounts a Shopify Markets store needs and what each one costs.
  • Athos documents that its Shopify connector reads market catalog prices, not only the variant price.
  • Shopify's Search & Discovery app starts showing the price filter outside a store's default currency.
  • Shopify changes how catalogs set product availability or prices per market.
