Plan Costs & Terms

Does Shopify Plus's per-store pricing change at all if a merchant's expansion stores are in different countries with different Shopify Markets configurations?

Short answer

The Shopify Plus plan fee does not change with an expansion store's country. One plan fee covers up to ten stores, so the price follows the organization's billing currency: $2,300 USD a month on a 3-year term (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Each expansion store must be billed in USD or INR (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).

Deploi’s call

Store country is a non-event for the Shopify Plus plan fee. Check the USD-or-INR store billing rule before you plan a consolidation, and get card rates and currency conversion fees for each store's country in writing, because those are where geography touches the bill.

CustomizeSell the new country from your current store when

  • The brand, catalog and team stay the same, because Deploi's multi-store record defaults to one store on Shopify Markets (October 2026).
  • Only the currency, language and domain change, which Shopify's international sales tools handle “all from a single store” (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
  • A second app stack would cost more than the new country earns, since apps bill per store (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).

BuildOpen a country expansion store when

  • A local team runs that country on its own, the case where Shopify says businesses “might prefer to sell cross-border using multiple stores” (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).
  • The country needs its own catalog of the same types of goods, a divergence Deploi's multi-store record treats as a real split, and Shopify confirms the store qualifies (October 2026).
  • The store sells the same brand and can be billed in USD or INR, as Shopify's expansion store rules require (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).

Does an expansion store's country change the Shopify Plus plan fee?

No: Shopify Plus charges one plan fee for the main store and up to nine expansion stores, whatever countries those stores sell in. “The Shopify Plus plan pricing varies depending on the term and your billing currency” (Shopify Help Center, October 2026), and the billing address decides which currencies you can choose (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). So adding German, Canadian and Australian storefronts changes none of these prices. Whether three brands can share one contract and how Shopify's variable platform fee treats extra stores are separate questions.

Can an expansion store be billed in its own country's currency?

No: a Shopify Plus expansion store must be billed in US dollars (USD) or Indian rupees (INR), whatever currency its storefront sells in. Shopify's eligibility rules for expansion stores include “Have a billing currency set to USD or INR,” and add that “Only stores billed in USD or INR can be added to a Plus agreement” (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Billing currency is not selling currency, because Shopify notes that “The billing currency requirement of USD or INR is separate from your store's selling currency.”

So an existing store billed in euros or pounds cannot join your Plus agreement as it stands: “If your store uses a billing currency other than USD or INR, then you need to change it before the store can be added to your Plus agreement.” That is pre-work for any consolidation that absorbs stores you already run. In our experience it surfaces late in a migration if nobody checks it at the start.

How does a Plus plan billed in Canadian dollars or euros fit the USD-or-INR rule?

Shopify does not say: its billing pages offer the Plus plan in seven currencies, while its expansion store rules admit stores billed in only two of them.

Our reading, which Shopify has not confirmed, separates three currencies in a Shopify Plus organization:

So ask Shopify in writing which currency each store will be billed in before you price a consolidation.

Which cross-country stores does Shopify accept as expansion stores?

Shopify accepts a cross-country expansion store when it sells the same brand and products as the main store in another language, region or currency. Its pre-approved store types include international stores: “Identical brand/name and products in different languages, region, or currency,” with abc123.com, abc123.ca and abc123.com.au as the example (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). The Plus plan “supports 9 expansion stores for internationalization, separate physical locations, and other related purposes” (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).

The Plus pricing page draws the same line: “Unlimited online stores, but one brand per contract,” which “allows one brand to sell internationally with localized currency, language, and content” (shopify.com/plus/pricing, October 2026). A country store with a different catalog falls outside the pre-approved “identical brand/name and products” type. It must still “Carry the same types of goods and services as the main brand,” so confirm its eligibility with Shopify before you build.

What changes when expansion stores sit in different countries?

Shopify Payments fees and access to Managed Markets, Shopify's merchant-of-record service, change with an expansion store's country; the Plus plan fee and the extra-store price do not.

Shopify says “Card rates vary by country” (shopify.com/plus/pricing, October 2026), so get each store's rates in writing. The conversion fee carries a tension: the Help Center charges stores outside the US 2% (Shopify Help Center, October 2026), while Shopify's international pricing page lists a flat 1.5% (Shopify Canada, October 2026). Managed Markets is not Plus-only, so the 3.25% Plus rate is a discount, not a gate.

When should you use Shopify Markets instead of a country expansion store?

Use Shopify Markets instead of a country expansion store when only the currency, language and domain differ, because a second store repeats every app subscription and theme licence (Shopify Help Center, October 2026). Deploi's multi-store record scores the default CUSTOMIZE: one store on Markets, split only when catalogs, brands or business-to-business (B2B) operations diverge (October 2026). Shopify's own guidance points the same way: its international sales tools manage markets “all from a single store,” while “businesses with globally dispersed teams that independently manage operations in their local market” might prefer multiple stores (Shopify Help Center, October 2026).

Deploi’s point of view

Our own position, from building on Shopify. Kept apart from the sourced facts above.

Where we disagree
International multi-store advice tends to treat "one store per country" as the mature architecture. Markets made one store the default, and the expansion store is for genuine divergence. Choosing a store per country because it feels tidier is a decision you re-pay every month in app subscriptions, and nothing in Shopify's pricing rewards it.
What this page adds
The parent answer settles whether three brands fit one Plus contract. This answer prices one brand's stores across countries: the Plus fee in each of Shopify's seven billing currencies with the price of each store beyond ten, the USD-or-INR billing rule for expansion stores and the gap Shopify leaves around it, the pre-approved international store type, and the Shopify Payments fees that do change with a store's country.

When this answer changes

  • Shopify changes the Plus price in any of its seven billing currencies, or the price of stores beyond ten.
  • Shopify drops or widens the rule that only stores billed in USD or INR can join a Plus agreement.
  • Shopify reconciles the currency conversion fee between its Help Center (2% outside the US) and its international pricing page (a flat 1.5%).
  • Shopify changes the published Plus card rates in a country your stores sell from.
  • Shopify Markets adds per-market themes or app settings, which would narrow the case for a country store.
